It's almost my birthday which, in recent years, means jumping on a plane and flying somewhere warmer than the UK and, for the third year running, we're off to Puerto de la Cruz in North Tenerife.
Puerto isn't a purpose-built resort, it's a bustling Canarian city which has been attracting foreign visitors for centuries. We usually stay for four nights but this time it was cheaper to fly out for five.... a whole extra day to explore or maybe just to sit in the old town with a bottle of wine watching the world go by.
The year-round temperature never drops below 17°C or exceeds 29°C, most welcome after the UK's wettest Autumn on record.
I'm taking two maxi dresses, a skirt, a kimono and three wrap tops.
In addition to one of the dresses and wrap tops, I'll also be travelling in my suede cowboy boots, thermals, gloves, woolly hat and my Rawhide suede coat, all of which can be scrunched up and stuffed in my bag once I'm at the airport.
In addition to my clothes I'm taking a bikini, a sports towel, my prescription sunglasses and glasses, my Kobo & my purse. Not pictured is my phone and knickers & socks.
Minimal (for me!) jewellery which I'll put on after I've passed through security.
Hair stuff!
Make-up....
The toiletries gon in my bag, the chargers, teabags and a fold-up umbrella* go in Jon's.
* We're up in the mountains, the odd shower isn't unusual.
I cannot wait to have my annual swim in Lago Martinez, the uber cool Modernist lido designed by Canarian artist, César Manrique.
I'll leave you with this year's birthday present to myself ('cos when you're a grown-up, that's what you do!) this secondhand Naked Generation "Daphne" dress which I've been stalking ever since I saw
Nikki's back in 2022 (HERE). As my Grandma always said, If you wait for something long enough, you'll eventually find it secondhand.
Thank you, Vinted!
Thanks for reading, I'll see you when I'm 59!

Your new dress is absolutely gorgeous; it suits you perfectly. Your purse is lovely. I bought myself some boots like that today. They were heavily discounted.
ReplyDeleteI wish you a fantastic time in Puerto de la Cruz. Celebrate your birthday to the fullest! Have a great trip!
Have a fabulous birthday Vix. You are bound to have a lovely time there and I too would love to jump in that pool! I like your wardrobe/colour scheme for this trip. You can't go wrong with a Naked Generation item, the older they get, the softer and more comfy they become. Betty
ReplyDeleteI think you pack incredibly well. I bought too much for my space but learned better to stream line next time. Have a Happy Birthday trip.
ReplyDeleteA massive Happy Birthday to you, dear Vix, and HB to Jon too! Enjoy your holiday (I had to look up Tenerife on a map, ha ha), and swanking around in your gorgeous new-to-you dress. Damn rights, we buy ourselves what we want!
ReplyDeleteBig hugs to you and the kitties!
Feliz Cumpleanos!xxx
ReplyDeleteThe ~very~ best way to avoid the Mince pie madness which seems to overcome most of the country (and all retailers) at this time of year. Many happy returns, 💚
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Vix. Have a fantastic time! Xx
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday and have a wonderful time xxx
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday Vix, and enjoy your little getaway to sunny and warm Tenerife!
ReplyDeleteYou are damn well right to buy yourself a birthday present, and that dress is an absolute stunner! xxx
Have a lovely birthday and holiday x
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday!! A fine way to spend a birthday. That lido looks amazing! I'm jealous! Hope you have a superb time! That bikini is really nice!x
ReplyDeleteThat dress is very beautiful, made for you💕
ReplyDeleteI agree whole heartedly with your Grandma. I've just started baking bread-my friend gave me a list of the tools I'd need, and said I could order them on the 'zon-instead I went to Value Village and bought nearly all of them 2nd hand, including a vintage flame Le Crueset pot with lid to bake in for $10 Canadian....
Wishing you a lovely birthday, great holiday, and thank you for sharing your incredible, inspirational style (and wonderful photography and wit!) 🙏✨🎉
Happy Birthday, dear Vix!, I hope you enjoy Puerto de la Cruz (your posts have inspired me to give Tenerife another try and probably we will visit it soon).
ReplyDeleteYour luggage looks both fabulous and sensible, including the bikini and umbrella. I totally agree about wearing thermals or leggings and removing them as soon as you arrive (great tip). Same for keeping your jewellery in your bag until you pass security controls (always better to make things smoother).
I'm admiring your 'minimal' makeup and jewellery, those are the things that make a difference!, you totally rock!
Also admiring your birthday dress, such a gorgeous piece and fit you like a dream!
Hope you enjoy your holiday!
besos
