Hey! Ho! Let's Go (Charity Shopping)

I was going to share some of the last month's charity shop finds but we came back with so much stuff this morning that it was worthy of its own post!

Anyway, first things first...here's what I wore.

This Suzani (an embroidered textile from central Asia including Tajikistan, Uzbekistan & Afghanistanduster coat was a recent Vinted find.

Of course I didn't need another vintage maxi dress but this German-made brushed cotton beauty popped up in my Vinted feed and at a tenner it was impossible to resist!

Another Vinted find! These limited edition velvet boots were a collab between Hudson and Liberty and sold through Anthropologie, they can sell for silly money...these were £15! I nearly passed out when I spotted them.

So, what's in the bag*, Vix?

*made by me about 15 years ago, using vintage fabric.

First up is this insane belted suedette jacket..
.

My online search for Jammy Content came up with nothing.

But there's a Wallis label inside so I imagine it was one of the many indie businesses who customised  clothing back in the 2010s.

It's mad but I like it!

If you're wondering who the fellow is it's the Moghul Emperor, Aurangzeb (1618 - 1707), the son of Shah Jhan who built the Taj Mahal as a momument to his wife, Mumtaz Mahal, after she died in childbirth. We visited the Taj Mahal back in 2019 (HERE).

The woman is Aurangheb's mother, Mumtaz.

Don't get your knickers in a twist, this might be labelled Ossie Clark but its modern and made under license.  As you know, I'm lucky enough to own a couple of his original pieces but thought someone might like this...the colours are fabulous!

This linen duster coat started life in Christchurch, New Zealand but ended up in the Black Country. The quality stood out a mile. This would look fantastic worn over an Indian block print dress...don't tempt me!

I thought this Mint Velvet blouse was silk but it's actually cupro, a vegan-friendly, eco alternative. The sleeves are fab and although it's four sizes bigger than my usual size in contemporary clothes but nothing a strategic knot can't fix!

All About Audrey are selling modern versions of these 1990s velvet and rayon tops, I always grab them when I find them in chazzas, the kids love 'em!

All the hip girls on TikTok want to dress like Stevie Nicks and this handmade 1970s maxi dress is something I can imagine her wearing back in the day. Despite not being keen on asymetric hemlines, it looks pretty good on.

This Frank Usher evening bag is so pretty, I love how it comes with two detachable chains, one is shoulder bag length and the other fits around the wrist.

Sometimes I just fall for a label. This disco era blouse bears the label of a San Francisco boutique and is a cool combo of velvet, chiffon and metallic thread..it's in a hard to find larger size, too!
Although there's plenty of larger sized vintage out there, the cool stuff is a lot harder to find.

I thought this 1970s leather clutch had a bit of a Gucci vibe. No labels but great quality!

At £2 I had to snaffle these gold leather ankle boots, originally from Office. I like the weird heels and even better, I can walk in them!

My heart skipped a beat when I spotted these boots.....they just screamed quality

On closer inspection they'd been professionally resoled, which always indicates a costly purchase.

Peter Kaiser opened his shoemaking business in Permasens, Germany in 1838 and is still trading today. I love this 1979 advert.

Dead comfy, my size (UK 6.5) and an absolute bargain!

In other news Jon & I are currently obsessed with Trigger Point. I've no idea why it's taken us so long to watch it, I've loved Vicky McClure since This is England. We've watched the first two series in three nights, gripping isn't the word!

See you soon. xxx

    1. Hello, bab! Great to hear from you. Those were the days, weren't they? I reckon they're banners from one of the tourist stalls lining the road opposite the Taj Mahal in Agra, a nice change from the good old elephant cushion covers! xxx

  2. Sorry Vix, didn't realise it came up anonymous! XxX

  3. A real thrill to see that Vix likes something from my country, New Zealand. Where, incidentally, the Stevie Nicks look is still strong.

  7. What a haul Vix. The coat is fab. You’re dead right about larger size stuff being harder to find, I never come across anything cool in my size anymore. Xxx

  9. Hi Vix, many thanks for such a fun and informative post. I am always curious to see your charity shop finds. I just love your outfit for going shopping too, those rich blue and brown tones and textures together are just gorgeous. You have reminded me to dig out my felt hats to start wearing again now. You got some splendid things at the charity shops. That Mint Velvet black blouse is a keeper and those black boots! I don't think I can find any more space for more boots in my wardrobes! What are the prices like in your charity shops, please? In this part of Scotland where I am I think prices are relatively dear. I don't really know why and some shops are asking silly prices all of a sudden. Bargains are getting harder to find but I keep looking. I am most envious of your original Ossie Clark pieces- my favourite designer. Celia Birtwell did a collaboration with ' Joanie' last year and I bought one of her dresses. I attended a groovy TRextasy concert last week- really enjoyed it.

I'm afraid my thrifting is nowhere as impressive, but you do guide me to look for exciting pieces! Lovely to see your finds. Thanks so much for being here. Thank you for your insightful comments too!
