I was going to share some of the last month's charity shop finds but we came back with so much stuff this morning that it was worthy of its own post!
Anyway, first things first...here's what I wore.
This Suzani (an embroidered textile from central Asia including Tajikistan, Uzbekistan & Afghanistan) duster coat was a recent Vinted find.
Of course I didn't need another vintage maxi dress but this German-made brushed cotton beauty popped up in my Vinted feed and at a tenner it was impossible to resist!
Another Vinted find! These limited edition velvet boots were a collab between Hudson and Liberty and sold through Anthropologie, they can sell for silly money...these were £15! I nearly passed out when I spotted them.
So, what's in the bag*, Vix?
*made by me about 15 years ago, using vintage fabric.
First up is this insane belted suedette jacket..
.
My online search for Jammy Content came up with nothing.
But there's a Wallis label inside so I imagine it was one of the many indie businesses who customised clothing back in the 2010s.
It's mad but I like it!
If you're wondering who the fellow is it's the Moghul Emperor, Aurangzeb (1618 - 1707), the son of Shah Jhan who built the Taj Mahal as a momument to his wife, Mumtaz Mahal, after she died in childbirth. We visited the Taj Mahal back in 2019 (HERE).
Don't get your knickers in a twist, this might be labelled Ossie Clark but its modern and made under license. As you know, I'm lucky enough to own a couple of his original pieces but thought someone might like this...the colours are fabulous!
This linen duster coat started life in Christchurch, New Zealand but ended up in the Black Country. The quality stood out a mile. This would look fantastic worn over an Indian block print dress...don't tempt me!
I thought this Mint Velvet blouse was silk but it's actually cupro, a vegan-friendly, eco alternative. The sleeves are fab and although it's four sizes bigger than my usual size in contemporary clothes but nothing a strategic knot can't fix!
All About Audrey are selling modern versions of these 1990s velvet and rayon tops, I always grab them when I find them in chazzas, the kids love 'em!
All the hip girls on TikTok want to dress like Stevie Nicks and this handmade 1970s maxi dress is something I can imagine her wearing back in the day. Despite not being keen on asymetric hemlines, it looks pretty good on.
This Frank Usher evening bag is so pretty, I love how it comes with two detachable chains, one is shoulder bag length and the other fits around the wrist.
Sometimes I just fall for a label. This disco era blouse bears the label of a San Francisco boutique and is a cool combo of velvet, chiffon and metallic thread..it's in a hard to find larger size, too!
Although there's plenty of larger sized vintage out there, the cool stuff is a lot harder to find.
I thought this 1970s leather clutch had a bit of a Gucci vibe. No labels but great quality!
At £2 I had to snaffle these gold leather ankle boots, originally from Office. I like the weird heels and even better, I can walk in them!
My heart skipped a beat when I spotted these boots.....they just screamed quality
On closer inspection they'd been professionally resoled, which always indicates a costly purchase.
Peter Kaiser opened his shoemaking business in Permasens, Germany in 1838 and is still trading today. I love this 1979 advert.
Here's my blog post condensed into a TikTok video...

In other news Jon & I are currently obsessed with Trigger Point. I've no idea why it's taken us so long to watch it, I've loved Vicky McClure since This is England. We've watched the first two series in three nights, gripping isn't the word!
See you soon. xxx

Hi Vix! Love the suedette coat - but are those cushion covers?! (Ah, those were the days...) That seventies clutch is amazing too, a good haul! Love to you both XxX
ReplyDeleteHello, bab! Great to hear from you. Those were the days, weren't they? I reckon they're banners from one of the tourist stalls lining the road opposite the Taj Mahal in Agra, a nice change from the good old elephant cushion covers! xxx
DeleteSorry Vix, didn't realise it came up anonymous! XxX
ReplyDeleteA real thrill to see that Vix likes something from my country, New Zealand. Where, incidentally, the Stevie Nicks look is still strong.
ReplyDeleteI picked up a lovely paua shell tray from New Zealand last week, its now looking after my rings on the dressing table. I did think of you when I bought it, I'll have to share a photo next time! xxx
DeleteA good day for shopping! x
ReplyDeleteWowsers, did you ever do well, Vix! Your Suzani and velvet boots are gorgeous, but then you started to unpack and WOW, such great items. You have such a good eye for quality - it's like you're a pro... :D
ReplyDeleteSending love to William and your other kitty (forgotten the name, sorry) from Barnabas and Whateley.
Thnaks, Sheila! I love it when you find a big haul in the shops, it doesn't happen as oftan as it used to! Sending lots of love to your kitties (and you & L, too!) xxx
DeleteWow you found SOOOO many great pieces--mind officially blown. And the shoes you found so cool. And love that duster coat, what a find!
ReplyDeleteAllie of

It was a good day, Allie! xxx
DeleteWhat wonderful finds Vix! I love that you have your dream job. X
ReplyDeleteI really do! xxx
DeleteWhat a haul Vix. The coat is fab. You’re dead right about larger size stuff being harder to find, I never come across anything cool in my size anymore. Xxx
ReplyDeleteThe quality of donations is definitely not as good as it used to be, We do have a lot of plus sized clothes in our shops but they are really poorly made, ugly fast fashion. <imd you, the smaller sizes aren't much better! xxx
DeleteSome gorgeous finds there. Have just finished watching Riot Women, so am now going to try Sally Wainwright's Last Tango in Halifax...always very late to the party! Arilx
ReplyDeleteThanks, Aril! I think you'll love Riot Women as much as I did. Sometimes I'm reluctant to watch something with so much hype atteached but it really is fantastic telly, Sally Wainwright never lets us down! xxxx
DeleteHi Vix, many thanks for such a fun and informative post. I am always curious to see your charity shop finds. I just love your outfit for going shopping too, those rich blue and brown tones and textures together are just gorgeous. You have reminded me to dig out my felt hats to start wearing again now. You got some splendid things at the charity shops. That Mint Velvet black blouse is a keeper and those black boots! I don't think I can find any more space for more boots in my wardrobes! What are the prices like in your charity shops, please? In this part of Scotland where I am I think prices are relatively dear. I don't really know why and some shops are asking silly prices all of a sudden. Bargains are getting harder to find but I keep looking. I am most envious of your original Ossie Clark pieces- my favourite designer. Celia Birtwell did a collaboration with ' Joanie' last year and I bought one of her dresses. I attended a groovy TRextasy concert last week- really enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteHello Alysia! Did you see the reply to your comment on my last post? I hope you find one of those dresses on Vinted!
DeleteI bet that TRextasy concert was fun, I'd have loved that.
Joanie do some good collabs, I missed out on the Laura Ashley one and keep hunting for that swan dress on Vinted.
Our charity shops are, in the main, pretty good value. There are a cuple who oer-optimistically price things at almost the same as the retail price (there's been one of those Dry Robes in the BHF for a month now ...£105!!) but a lot of our shops are eaither £2.99 or less and £5 or less (expensive for a tatty teeshirt, an absolute bargain for a suede coat!) xxx
Hi Vix, I did see your reply to my previous comment. Thank you for the info.
DeleteI got a nice blouse from the Laura Ashley collaboration with Joanie and a lovely quilted bag. Your charity shop prices sound pretty reasonable on the whole. Lucky you. Yes TRextasy was great fun. X
Oh, such amazing finds! Love the jacket so much! Spectaculair pieces! So love the boots! You are always inspiring in your finds. I'm afraid my thrifting is nowhere as impressive, but you do guide me to look for exciting pieces! Lovely to see your finds. Thanks so much for being here. Thank you for your insightful comments too!
ReplyDeleteThanks so muhc, Ellie! It wsa a particularly good day for shopping. I do find that the week bcak after a school holiday is often pretty good, I think grandparents get the chance to have a clearout of their wardrobes when they're minding the grandchildren at home! xxx

ReplyDeleteThat blue outfit you were wearing is amazing, you look fantastic in it. Oh, the bags, I'm in love! You've found the most beautiful pieces again.
Thanks, Andrea! I can never resist a clutch bag! x
DeleteAn amazing charity shop haul ... that suedette coat has Glastonbury written all over it ... if it lasts that long. I have yet to be drawn into Trigger Point, but only the other day when an advert for it came on I was sorely tempted to give it a go. Do I want hours and hours of stress though?
ReplyDeleteYoure right Sue, that coat is very Glasto!
DeleteI think I was a bit scared of Trigger Point and it is terrifying but the plotlines are compelling and the acting is superb! xxx
Your outfit is absolutely stunning, a pattern-mixing masterpiece! Swooning over Suzani duster coat and those velvet boots. Which reminded me I've got a pair of velvet boots - not as good as yours, but still - somewhere. Now where did they got to?
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous chazza haul! The gold leather ankle boots and the Peter Kaiser boots are both fantastic, although I don't think I could walk in either of them.
I'd no idea there was such a thing as modern day Ossie Clarke ... xxx
That's a huge complimnet coming from you, Ann! Yes, I do remember you having a pair of velvet boots. I did have a pair about ten years ago but they soaked up water like a sponge, these are watertight - hoorah!
DeleteI'm struggling with a lot of heels these days but the ew boots are manageable. How I used to go to work in 4" heels is beyond me!
I think the new Ossie Clark label was sold through Debenhams and only lasted three seasons. Its synthetic and made in China and mostly horrible although this dress is quite decent looking! xxx
What great finds!!! I regularly used to buy shoes from Office but after I broke my ankle, I no longer could wear heels (sob!). Love the funky look. You look great as ever btw. I always enjoy when you share your chazza finds. Great post as usual. I don't always get the chance to comment but I still read your blog.
ReplyDeleteHello Catmac! It's so lovely to hear from you! I'm sorry about your ankle an dhow its inhibited your choice of footwear. Office do some really cool and quirky footwear, I often scour their website at sale time. I get artritis in my toe joints these days and struggle with a lot of footwearm I managed to walk to the cinema in those black boots (a four mile round trip)! xxx
DeleteWhat an interesting find your suedette jacket is. I wonder if it was a sample and didn't go into retail or whether someone added the prints to make it theirs. I like the velvet boots too. I really enjoying seeing your chazza finds. Betty
ReplyDeleteHi Betty! There was a bit of a thing a few years ago where resellers would buy second hand jackets and sew cushion covers, braiding and scraps of fabric on the back - an old friend used to make a fortune selling them at vintage fairs. I think this is a similar thing, it's very well done! xxx
DeleteAs always fantastic finds! The brushed cotton German vintage dress is gorgeous. Those tonalities of blue are so beautiful! Your accessories are always fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed seeing your finds.
The suede belted coat with portraits is so unique. I like how the historical portraits have significant historical figures and feature the builder of the most iconic Indian landmark.
Love the funky boots!
Thanks, Ivana! My Grandma always used to tell me to look out for clothes made in Germany as she believed the quality was particularly good. I brushed cotton of the one I'm wearing is so thick and cosy, a perfect winter dress!
DeleteThe coat is very unusual, isn't it? What an interesting way to add a bit of style to an otherwise ordinary jacket! All the more special as I've visited what was Moghul Hindustan! xxx
Hello!
ReplyDeleteWow, what incredible clothes at bargain prices! You're a pro at finding pieces with history! The shoes are equally wonderful! And everything suits you so well! Congratulations on these finds!
Have a great Wednesday! <33
Thanks, Marisa! I do love the social history behind old clothes, it's quite thrilling to find an old shopping list in a coat pocket or a wedding invitation in an old handbag, you get a tiny insight into the previous owner! xxx
DeleteHello Vix,
ReplyDeleteYou are certainly a very canny shopper. :):) We can totally identify with what you say that "there is a lot of vintage stuff out there" but, quality is in far less supply. So, you have been very focused to have achieved this amazing range of goodies.
Although we must confess to spending far less time looking for second-hand clothes, we do scour everywhere possible for vintage furniture and other items for the house. Exactly in tune with your own thoughts, that too is plentiful but quality far less so. Nevertheless, hope springs eternal and bargains are to be found....as you so well show!!
Hello, Jane and Lance! You're right, one has to be discerning, i don't just buy things because they're old, they have to be good quality and interesting, too!
DeleteWe try not to visit the charity shops that specialise in furniture as its inevitable that we'll come home with yet another chair, sude table or ottoman! xxx
Such a better class of cast offs down your way! Can't stay, Shetland's on in a minute!xxx
ReplyDeleteI'm often amazed at some of the quality cast-offs I find in what's said to be an underpriviledged area. xxx PS Never got into Shetland but the scenery looks stunning!
DeleteYour Suzani coat - oh, be still my beating heart 💗. Apart from the Pendleton (yes, I am reading in the wrong order) is that on the list of Top 5 finds of the year?
