....Where we're going!
We booked our flights months ago but with festival life a major distraction, had no plans of where we were going to spend our fortnight in Greece. Happily, after a weekend of reading travel blogs, following Facebook fan pages, watching Youtube videos and scrolling through Booking.com we've finally formulated a plan. We're visiting three Greek islands, staying in four locations and travelling by ferry and bus. We've stayed on one of the islands before, fallen in love with another after stumbling across a travel biography written in 1956 which we found in a charity shop and the other is a wild card but it was once ruled by the Spartans which is as good a reason as any to visit! (Not sure leather pants are still de riguer on the island in question, more's the pity!)
Needless to say, with all the moving about, it's more important than ever to travel light.
My carry-on bag looks like it's been sponsored by Mrs Kaur from the haberdashery stall as I'm taking the kimono, the wrap top, the sundress and the kaftan that I snaffled from her £5 clearance rail.
This silk maxi dress which I bought from Vinted and wore in Corfu a few weeks ago.
The Zara maxi, also from Vinted and taken to Corfu...
Plus this stunner....
I spotted this Indian-made rayon maxi in the Sue Ryder charity shop the day before we went to EotR, recognising the label as one I'd seen in those eye-wateringly expensive, beautifully curated, chi-chi boutiques I love to visit when I'm in Greece. I thought the £4 price tag was pretty good - until I got to the counter and they told me that it had been reduced to half price. I'd be hard-pressed to get a glass of ouzo for £2!!
I'm also taking two bikinis, a straw bag, two pairs of Teva flatforms (one to travel in), a sarong, a cotton beach towel, a straw hat, prescription sunnies, goggles, minimal jewellery and my Kobo (As you already know, undies aren't important to me!)
Here's what I've been wearing this week...mostly stuff I've had for years (including my Mexican tomato dress which, I know, is a favourite with a few of you!) I've added a link to my Tiktok page in my sidebar.
**If you watch the videos I've posted on my blog click on the @vixbrearley beneath the clip - that way you won't get any annoying pop-ups!**

@vixbrearley This vintage Indian dress is my top charity shop find so far this year. A friend gave me the Gohil's boots, she had them custom-made in 1966, they're as old as me!#vintagefashion #over50women #hippiestyle ♬ Move on Up (Single Edit) - Curtis Mayfield
@vixbrearley I've just picked up this suede waistcoat, I can't believe it was listed on Vinted for over two months, I love it! #hippiestyle #vintagefashion #1970sfashion #over50women ♬ California Dreamin' - With Cass Elliot And John Phillips Intro - The Mamas & The Papas

@vixbrearley I'm harnessing my inner cowgirl today. When I bought Jolene by Strawberry Switchblade on vinyl back in 1985 I had no idea it was a cover, it's still my favourite version. #cowgirlchic #over50women #charityshopfinds #vintagestyle ♬ som original - ππππ πππππ πππππ
I'm not going away yet - I'm meeting Nikki for a day out in Birmingham tomorrow where we'll be paying homage to Ozzy! I'll share our adventures before the end of the week.
Purring at your gorgeously colorful, slinky, beach-worthy dresses, Vix, as my American Midwestern summer slides into fall, and musing that I'd like to snag close cousins of your Birmingham-bound furry hat and suede coat. * And an old style NHS nurse's belt buckle! Your two striking silver buckles inspire me to resume the hunt!
ReplyDeleteHello Beth! Keep looking - they are out there! I always think of you when I wear that big silver Art Nouveau number as know you love it! I braved bare arms today, making the most of the last of the Summer in the UK! xxx

ReplyDeleteSorry, wrong language caught :D Great travel wardrobe, the beach dress is sooooo beautiful. The caftan for the trip is too. The light blue dream was a great purchase, you're a master at finding great things.
I'm al ways in awe of your language skills, Andrea, I struggle to speak English sometimes! That dress and kaftan are perfect for travelling, crease resistant. lightweight and so colourful- a wise investment! x
DeleteEnjoy enjoy! I'm already looking where next and haven't gone anywhere yet.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sam! You sound just like me, always dreaming of my next trip! xxx
DeleteGorgeous outfits as per usual. Well done to Mrs Kaur as well. All the best Marjorie in Canada
ReplyDeleteThanks, Marjorie! x
DeleteWhew! Glad to see my favorite tomato dress...I was afraid maybe you had decided to part with it.
ReplyDeleteI knew you'd be pleased to see that dress - people keep asking me to sell it but I'm far too attached to her! xxx
DeleteHave a fabulous time with Nikki tomorrow, Ozzy tribute and all sounds like the perfect send-off before Greece. Miss Vix, I am so glad that I meet another fans of Rolling Stones groupie here.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Asep! x
DeleteLove your tiktok page, Vix. Very original. As is your travel wardrobe!! xxxxxx

DeleteYour next trip sounds wonderful , I will be keen to read about your ferry travel . Your travel wardrobe is as good as ever , the pale blue dress is amazing. Have fun with Nikki and safe travels.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Jill! I'm excited to wear that blue dress next to the Aegean, they're almost the same colour! I've not been on a Greek ferry for years, I bet they haven't changed! xxx
DeleteOh, it is always great to see how you put all your essentials together for a trip. You make each day a holiday and that is a gift! Such a delightful way to start your September. ReplyDeleteThanks - we watched it when it first aired! She sat in my chair when she was in Plaka in Athens and even stroked the same cat - I reckon she must read my blog! xxx

DeleteHi Vix!
ReplyDeleteStarting at the end, with your outfit videos on TikTok. Your outfits are so rich in detail, I'm impressed! You match everything down to the smallest detail, I loved the presentation!
I also think you're a pro at packing.
I hope you have a great time on the islands you've chosen in Greece! Hugs
Thanks so much, Marisa! I'm having fun making those videos! I'm very excited about our trip, September is beautiful in Greece! xxx
DeleteI really enjoy watching the Instagram videos, Vix, they are fun and seeing your outfits in motion is just lovely, so many pretty things. We scoured the internet for Greece, taking note of your recent suggestions (thank you), but were distracted when a random last minute to Jamaica came up for later this month at the same price range, we booked without hestitation! Greece for us next year then! Hope you have a wonderful adventure, 3 stops certainly will ensure it's not boring. Your capsule wardrobe looks great (wish we had a Mrs Kaur here in sunny Surrey). Betty x
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Betty! I'm having fun with those videos now I've worked out where to prop up the camera to film them! The receptionist at the baths has just come back from Jamaica - her third visit - she's got the best tan ever! That must be one great deal, I can't wait to hear all about it! xxx
DeleteAh, good for you both, you totally deserve a couple of weeks of R&R in the Greek isles! I love your videos, so fun! What deals you get on those beautiful dresses, swoon! Looking forward to your adventure with Nikki!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sheila! xxx
DeleteIt's hard to imagine that you will be going from coats and furry hats to all those lovely slinky lightweight dresses in a couple of weeks. I think you need to do a collage print out for Mrs Kaur, showing her that the dresses she sold you have been very well travelled and loved.
ReplyDeleteHello Sue! It is a bit mind bending to get back into Summer mode after a week of sheepskin hats and boots. I keep popping in to show Mrs Kaur me wearing her clothes, a collage would be a great idea, I could even post it on her Facebook page! xxx
DeleteYour upcoming adventure sounds exciting and intriguing. Can't wait for the reveal!
ReplyDeleteAs always, I loved seeing what you are taking. Mrs. Kaur will be well pleased :)
Also enjoying seeing your outfits up close in your TikTok videos! xxx
Happy Birthday to you!!! Thanks so much, Ann - hope you're having a fabulous day! xxx
DeleteWhere do I sign up to go to the island that has Gerard Butler in very small leather pants please? I love your TikTok videos. I’m not on the Tok so please keep posting them in your blog. They’re great. Have a wonderful holiday xxx
ReplyDeleteI love 300 - not sure if its the story or the costumes!! xxx
DeleteMore.gorgeous adventures await you. We've already sneaked away for a few days of exploring the UK. Arilx
ReplyDeleteYay! I'm so happy that you're having some adventures, keep on travelling! xxx
DeleteHi Vicky, I'm way behind and catching up as usual!
ReplyDeleteBy coincidence, we took the campervan to Tewkesbury and Broadway this summer. In both cases, the campsites are right by the town, opposite the Abbey in the case of Tewkesbury. They're both such lovely places to visit.
I'm very much enjoying your packing posts. I haven't been on a Greek ferry for hundreds of years. In fact, the last time I can remember, I was on an 18-30 holiday! Can't wait to hear about your adventures.
As Louise has said above, please do keep putting your TikTok's on your blog. I don't have a TikTok account, and I'm really reluctant to open one. I hardly use my Instagram, and Facebook seems to have become a right pit lately. Your TikTok's are totally fab, so inspirational, and somehow do seem to show the outfits off better than still photos.
We really must meet up. We're off to Ibiza next week, and I guess you're away after that, but let's try to get a date in diaries when we're both back.
Love, Annie xx
Hello Annie! I know that you're going to have a fantastic time in your second home, Ibiza! I love going away at this time of year, it really helps to extend the Summer, dosn't it? We really do need to meet up soon, it's been far too long! xxx
DeleteHi Vix, another stunning set of outfits. I may challenge Beth to a contest though over your fab Art Nouveau belt buckle!! Like others I enjoy seeing your tik tok videos and your humongous pendants and bracelets. Always fun to see. A suede long length waistcoat too. I am rather bemused at seeing the current autumn fashion for brown suede - invariably tacky-looking faux suede on offer in the shops right now whilst you and I have been steadily adding pieces of high quality soft suede to our second hand wardrobes for years. Conversely, those higher end brands offering real suede have eye-watering prices attached to them. Have a great holiday. I am back off to Rhodes again shortly and sorting out my clothes to take too.
ReplyDeleteHello Alysia! I won't be too far away from you, I hope you have a wonderful time in gorgeous Rhodes!
DeleteI was thrilled with that suede waistcoat, it's just what I needed to wear over my sheer dresses now the weather's a bit cooler. I hear you on that dreadful faux suede the cheap shops are flogging this season, it looks awful and goodness knows how long it will take to biodegrade when the fast fashion addicts go off it. Between us I think we've probably amassed quite the collection of vintage suede at great prices, I can never resist it when I see it secondhand and it washes so well in the machine, too! xxx
Yes, so far I have a full length brown suede coat ( love it), 2 brown or tan skirts, brown suede shirt, beige suede short jacket , handbags, belts, boots etc.
DeleteHave a wonderful time. Xx
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your holiday. Packing light doesn't mean a lack of fabulous-ness for you. X
ReplyDeleteDear Vix, I'm damn late in my commenting, but I had to tell you how much I enjoy your 'luggage posts'! and your great tips on packing light. Love those dresses and kaftans and the possibilities of layering!. And obviously I'm admiring all that hippietastic jewellery (totally my kind of 'minimal jewellery' mwhaha).
ReplyDeleteYour little videos look really Pro, you're so inspiring and totally a rockstar!. Feeling tempted to go back into social media!
