TikTok, Don't Stop!

I'm easily obsessed. I can't just buy something and leave it at that. Remember that silk dress I'd snaffled from Mrs Kaur's £5 rail on the indoor market the day before we flew to Corfu? Once we got home I couldn't resist popping back and having another look..... just to make sure that I hadn't missed anything.....

Oh dear, I've now got an entire collection of recycled sari silk garments! A whole new wardrobe for £30.

Rather than getting Jon to photograph me in my outfits like usual, this week I've been making short videos of me prancing around in my gear and posting them on TikTok. I haven't edited them or used filters. I didn't expect any of the (predominately young) TikTok users to be remotely interested in my amateur posing but I've had some really sweet comments by young women saying how they want to be just like me when they get older.

See you soon!

    1. Thanks, Sheila! Those garments were too good to miss, weren't they? Its crazy clothes like that exist in our town and yet the vast majority of women stomp around in ill fitting leggings! xxx

  9. Hi Vix, well done on snaffling up a whole load of pure silk loveliness! I've got a recycled silk sari sundress in my wardrobe somewhere. I think I bought it in a market in N France. I'll have to get it out and wear it!

    1. Hello Alysia! You need to drag that recycled sari silk sundress out of hibnation and wear it - I love layering mine with those sari wrap tops making them more of a year-round garment. Mind you, if the weather forecast is to be believed it looks like we're getting another blast of sunshine! xxx

  10. It's really a shame that in all the years I've been following you I wait 'til this post to comment. I have enjoyed reading your blog through the years, seeing your photos, your style, your home decoration. Reading your daily posts helped get me through the worst of Covid lockdowns. And though you look beautiful on your TikTok videos, I was saddened to see them. TikTok is a platform that thrives on platant commercialism and overconsumption run amok. It has no respect for copyright and although it says it doesn't allow it, there are numerous users uploading verified YouTube creators content and claiming it as their own. When said creators complain, nothing is done. To note, even before I even got to the end of your videos it was pressing related content videos on me smack dab in the middle of your video with no way to get past them. And believe me when I say the related content was not related at all with one being pornographic (two people front to back from the shoulders up, but no doubt as to what they were doing).

    1. Hello Paperesse, its lovely to "meet you" after all these years. I'm unaware of the issues with TikTok which you've mentioned - I follow street style blogs, artists, musicians, independent travellers and those with secondhand/vintage lifestyles and, as a consequence, these are the only subjects that pop up in my feed - no adverts and definitely no porn!! As for the not responding to complaints raised by users, I think that's rife in Social Media as a whole (facebook is definitely guilty), the internet can be like the Wild West at times. x

    2. Hey Vix, thanks for your reply. The TikTok video(s) I'm talking about appear smack dab in the center of your TikTok videos on your blog. They're a rectangle that blocks out you. And as I said, have absolutely nothing to do with your blog's content (definitely not vintage clothing). Perhaps you could look at these TikTok videos on your blog on someone else's phone to see what I'm talking about? Yes, copyright violation is a problem, but at least with YouTube or Instagram they will take action. TikTok is Chinese and they just don't care.

I hope you made it to Edinburgh in one piece, I bet it's crazy busy at the moment. Everyone I know who've been to the reunion gigs have loved them. I saw them loads in the 1990s (including Knebworth) I hope the parents have a blast! xxx

  18. I enjoyed your videos vix although Im not a TikTok user, I prefer the slower pace and connection with likeminded people that Blogger offers. It's nice to see that young people like your style and I have no doubt you will have influenced quite a few to try something out of their comfort zone and rethink their own wardrobe! I wish we had a Mrs Kaur - the closest I can get is Audrey's Brighton shop but I have noticed (online) her prices creeping up. Your jewellery collection is awesome and btw your new lipstick is very glam. Betty x

    1. Thanks, Betty! I love Blogger, my blog has been a big part of my life for 16 years and I've met so many like-minded people who've become real life friends since I started posting in 2009, to stop writing would be like cutting off a limb!
The only downside about the platform is how few style bloggers there are these days (aside from the few I already follow) - I don't mean those sponsored, trend-led, mainstream blogs, it's the the cool, alternative, couldn't-give-a-toss-about-fashion blogs that Blogger used to be brilliant for - Instagram is too polished & glossy, TikTok feels more real, like the old fanzines I loved as a young woman!
I've noticed Audrey's prices creeping up although she's still a lot more reasonable priced than her rivals. xxx

Still resisting the siren songs of Tiktok, and even removed Instagram from my phone, it's addictive and finally annoys me. But mixed feelings, as I miss all the lovely inspiring people who have moved to those new media and still try to catch up with them!
