It's The End of the Road!

Hello! We're leaving for End of the Road shortly but there's just enough time to squeeze in a last minute blog. What a Summer it's been, I can't believe it's the last festival of the season.

Ratnamurti asked if I had any tips or secrets for managing to look fab at festivals ...if she could see me wandering to the portaloos in my nightie, army jacket & slides whilst clutching a toilet roll she might change her mind! Seriously though, it's mostly down to massive sunglasses and bright lipstick (Maybelline's Superstay in Heroine) and no matter what time I roll into bed, I always braid my hair and take off my makeup. I also plan each outfit with military precision, which I roll up with the corresponding jewellery, pack in individual cloth bags so its easy to get dressed each morning. That's about it!

As of last night, this was my final selection (there's a coat, too) although I'm still dithering about what to wear today for building the stall. I'm hoping that this morning's rain won't follow us down to Dorset,

In other news a couple of weeks ago the NHS invited me to go for one of those free Over 50s health checks...the first time I'd been to my doctor in 13 years! Despite all the negativity about the NHS you're consantly reading about, when I phoned the surgery to book my blood tests, I was offered an appointment the same day and as for those conspiracy theorists who claim that doctors are in league with "big pharma" and lie about the results so they can prescribe unnecessary drugs, when I went back a fortnight later for my results the doc told me that I was one of the healthiest people he'd had the pleasure of seeing.

Swimming is my super power! Here I am, buzzing from my Sunday morning session. I've been swimming a mile three times a week since May, I don't think I've ever felt better, its also improved my stamia so I can work long hours and still have plenty of energy left for some late night festival fun.

Kate from Katie's Recycle very kindly sent me this parcel of clothes she'd been given to cut up for craft projects - a silk haori, a silk kimono printed with cranes and a silk brocade opera coat all of which are now in my wardrobe - they're so beautiful! The amazing 1960s metallic brocade deadstock midi dress (below) is packed and ready for EotR where there's a young woman I know who is going to look incredible in it. Thanks, Kate! I really appreciate your kindness.

I'm still posting outfit videos on TikTok, I'm loving the independence of being able to film them myself in less than a minute rather than mithering Jon to stop what he's doing to snap a few photos expecially when he's in the throws of festival prep. For those of you who don't do TikTok here's what I've been wearing this week....if you follow me on Facebook I'll be posting daily updates from EotR.

See you in September!

    1. Thanks, Anna! I swim three times a week and the other days I do 30 minutes of yoga/muscle strengthening exercises on my Wii Fit. I don't drive and do a lot of walking, too! xxx

  11. Hi Vix, I enjoyed seeing your Tik Tok content- a great juxtaposition of lovely clothes in all their variety, your amazing jewellery collection and inspirational music. Seeing you in your floppy felt hats I feel encouraged to get my hats out this autumn. For some reason I did not wear them much last year. I tend to favour 20s style cloche hats and have quite a few now. Not many women wear them where I live so I tend to get asked questions about them but generally people's response is positive. Some women tell me that they can't wear hats but I just tell them to try on lots of hats until they find what suits them.

    1. Hello Alysia! Its definitely hat weather at the moment! Much as I adore summer I do relish the opportunity to wear my hats...I hope you give yours a few outings this Autum/Winter. I gear the same comments about women not being abole to wear hats and I agree with you, there's a style out there for everyone! xxx

  15. Hi Vix, your Instagram posts are great, so much more fun than a photo! The music is good too :) Looks like you might encounter rain but I have no doubt you will be well prepared! Betty

    1. Thanks, Betty! I prefer seeing myself in motion than posing for a photo, even after 16 years of blogging it still feels really awkward! xxx

  16. How lovely of Kate from Katie's Recycle to send you that parcel. The things you are keeping are very you, and I'm sure that 1960s brocade midi dress won't be on your rails for long.
I love your selection of outfits for End of the Road, and very much enjoyed your TikTok videos.
Have a most excellent time, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed you sell lots (which I don't doubt for a minute)! xxx

  17. Vix, have a lovely time at The End of the road. The items you were gifted are gorgeous, the patterns are very pretty, my favourite is the cranes, but I am biased because we have a lot of herons here and they look similar.
I am enjoying your music selection on the videos too.

  18. It must be reassuring to know that you're in such good health. Although it isn't surprising, given how well you take care of yourself.
And I love hearing about your summers of festivals. You make it sound like one long celebration, and I'm sure it is, but I'm also certain there must be a LOT of hard work going on behind the scenes.
    Have a wonderful time. Xx

  19. Sending you all the good vibes for a massive sell at End of the Road, Vix and Jon! You have so much gorgeous stock, and the cachet of vintage is steadily rising over here (I'm prepping for a pop-up in a store, myself!). Vix, you look wonderful as always (I hope your horn stays in place!), and so fun to see you Tik-Tokking with the young'uns! Love the nail polish colour!

  21. Hi Vix!
It's true that your outfits made you the queen of the festival!
I also prepare my outfits the day before, not as precisely as you, but you're a real pro at matching clothes, make-up and jewellery. BTW, I use that lipstick too!
Do you swim a mile? That's why your test results were good and you're such a healthy person! I just don't know how you manage your hair. When I used to do water aerobics, my hair always looked terrible!
    Have a great weekend!

    1. Thanks, Marisa! That lipstick is incredible, isn't it? I'm forever stalking eBay for it as they rarely have Heroine in the shops (and its usually much cheaper!)
I swim three miles a week - I'd go every day but that would probably be bordering on obsessive!

  22. Great tips on packing every outfit (jewellery included) in advance, that's brilliant!. It probably takes time and effort but makes a difference!. And my favourite advice ever is to wear massive sunnies and bright lipstick, that's something I could do everyday! (and lots of accessorizing!).
Glad to read that you got such good news about your health, that's something we can't take for granted so it's fab to have good test results. (I'm not in my best moment, but working hard!).
Your little videos are totally fabulous, it's amazing that you could make that in a minute. Love the music you picked (Rock The Casbah!) and your fantastic jewellery collection. I'm now tempted to join social media again!
    besos
