Where's Your Head At?

After a week of wandering around in state of befuddlement, I'm happy to say that the Glastonbury brain fog has dissipated and we're back to firing on all cylinders.

Whilst still recovering, on Saturday we decided to pop over and surprise Liz who, along with other members of Walsall Society of Artists, were hosting a private viewing of their annual Summer show. After a 40 minute journey we pulled into the car park at Himley Hall in Worcestershire only to realise that we'd got the venue wrong and the exhibition was actually at Weston Park in the county of Staffordshire. Oh dear! After another 45 minutes we arrived at our destination albeit fashionably late.

How gorgeous is Liz's artwork featuring vintage ceramics?

Chek out Liz's art HERE!

Other than that longer than expected journey it's been a pretty chilled out week, the van still hasn't been unpacked but I've managed to read four books, I've swum three miles ( it would have been four but I seemed to have spent most of today's session chatting), we've been charity shopping, had two Spoons breakfasts and topped up my tan as the great British heatwave continues.

Having finished Yellowstone we moved on to the prequel, 1883, which we loved. Just like in Yellowstone, there's some incredible female characters and their costumes are bloody gorgeous.

Inspired by Noemi, played by beautiful newcomer Gratiela Brancusi, I've been wearing headscarves which not only stop my scalp from sizzling in the sunshine but also so that I can keep my hair in braids whilst hiding the fuzziness I get from wearing a swimming cap.

The earrings are another pair my friend Caroline brought back for me from Delhi.

The only thing vintage about my outfit is my Indian silk screen printed headscarf (and me!) The embroidered linen skirt was orignally Zara but bought secondhand via Vinted and the orange cotton blouse was from Monsoon.

The Twister nails are still going strong three weeks later.

Here's what I wore today....

Another vintage silk scarf from my collection, a River Island block printed cotton jacket (£2, secondhand find!) and a vintage India Imports of Rhode Island maxi dress I've had since 2018.

We've been to the cinema this afternoon in the cinema to see The Ballard of Ellis Island, a touchingly bittersweet comedy co-written and starring comedian Tim Key about an ecentric lottery winner who tries to reunite his favourite folk band by attempting to host a gig on a remote Welsh island. Richard Curtis reckons it's one of the best British movies of all time. Many thanks to our mate Nigel at the swimming pool who recommended it. Catch it if you can - if you don't love it as much as we did there's no hope for you!

I'm meeting Nikki in Birmingham for a day of culture and curry. Sundress, sun cream and sandals at the ready, it's going to be a scorcher!

  1. The Ballad movie was streaming already in the US and I watched last weekend in my bedroom. Loved it! We too have above normal temps and a few weekends of blistering heat and damp humidity. No lie, the AC was used and I know that is not the norm the rest of the world.

To be honest, I usually hate AC but it was quite pleasant in the cinema yesterday! stay cool! xxx

  2. The headscarf goes so beautifully with the outfit and the long green skirt. I like your new look with the headscarf. Liz's pictures are great. I love the motifs and colors. The exhibition spaces are beautiful with the beamed ceilings.

  3. I've heard very good things about the Ballad of Ellis Island! I love your wonderful outfits, and have been experimenting a bit with scarves for me (although no heatwave here!). Liz's artworks are amazing - it looks like she's sewn thread through them? What a lovely way to support your pal. Looking forward to seeing the shenanigans you and Nikki get up to!

    1. Its a fabulous film, Sheila, I highly recommend it. Being a 6Music fan I was excited by the references to my favourite radio station.
Like you, I can't resist snapping up vintage scarves when I spot them going cheap in charity shops, I thought it was high time I acually did something with them.
Yes, Liz's artwork often incorporates vintage textiles and hand-stitching a reference to her degree in fashion and textile design! xxx

  4. Just one short comment, I adore the orange dress you wore to the viewing. Where did you find that vibrant gorgeousness?

    1. Hello Jean and thank you. The 1970s orange dress is by the Glaswegian designer, Marion Donaldson, I found it on Vinted for £20! x

  6. From a surprise art show mix-up to stylish headscarves and vintage finds, it’s a charming whirlwind of books, movies, and heatwave adventures. Your outfit details are as colorful as your storytelling, and now I really want to see

Well, The Ballad of Ellis Island!

  7. Wow you do suit a headscarf. The dress you wore to the art exhibition is fab and suits you wonderfully. I love the painting with the bulging teapot. We are going to see The Ballad of Ellis Island this weekend. As ever love all your jewels. Regards Sue H

  9. Hi Vix, always interesting to catch up with your latest outings etc and especially one to a lovely art exhibition. Your friend Liz is clearly highly talented and has a unique style of her own. Your India Imports of Rhode Island maxi dress is a real keeper too, I can see why you like wearing it. I shall have to check out the film you mentioned too being a Welsh girl.
My holiday to Spain went well and we enjoyed checking out the Spanish rail network. Infinitely superior to the British one-surprise surprise.

  10. I love the headscarves. I’ve always liked scarves as headwear, they just look so nice. I’m glad you’re getting to enjoy the heatwave. Xxx

  11. Marion Donaldson used to have a shop in the '70's in Edinburgh, next door to another shop called Droopy and Browns but only the rich Edinburgh ladies could afford to buy anything! Real hippies had to be satisfied by standing on the pavement outside and drooling over the window displays! You simply must buy that painting of you by your friend. It's beautiful. You could always tell the 'real' hippies from the fake pseudo ones. 'Real' hippies would never have a neatly ironed crease down the legs of their jeans!xxx

  12. I've never really considered it before, but it must be quite hard 'coming down' from the busyness and excitement of Glastonbury and re-adapting to normal life. I been tempted to watch The Ballad of Ellis Island at the cinema, but I think I'll wait until it streams now and save myself some money, I do really fancy it and your recommendation is the cherry on the cake.

I LOVE Liz's 'pregnant looking' blue jug picture, the colours are amazing.

  15. Liz's artwork is absolutely amazing, and we were all set to go and see it at Himley Hall as it would have coincided with our holiday, but alas! I can't believe you got the venue wrong, although I admit this could have happened to us as well :-)
Fabulous outfits as per usual, my favourites this time being the one with "our" Zara skirt and that stunner of a dress you were wearing for Liz's exhibition. Plus, you do not half suit a headscarf! xxx

  16. I could do with a Spoons Brekkie right now. Very hungry on this late train home!
Iike your headscarf wearing. You look fabulous. The swimming is still impressive despite it's 1 mile deficit.
The exhibition looks really good! Well done Liz! Xx
