On Wednesday evenings at the Light you can get an artisanal pizza and see a film for £15. Last night we saw Time Travel Is Dangerous, a delightfully daft mockumentary by local director, Chris Reading, a low budget adventure about vintage shop proprietors, Megan and Ruth, who discover an abandoned time machine enabling them to travel through time & collect vintage treasures to sell in their ailing Muswell Hill store, not realising the irreparable damage time travel has on the universe. Megan and Ruth are vintage sellers in real-life and their shop, The Cha-cha-cha Emporium really exists. Narrated by Stephen Fry with stars including Johnny Vegas, Brian Blessed and Jane Horrocks, the film is a mad mix of Shaun of the Dead and Bargain Hunt with shades of Wes Anderson.
Off-the-wall, silly and great fun, just like our relationship!
It wasn't only the film director, Chris Reading who was a local, the costume designer Vicki Jones is a Walsall girl and we were treated to a Q&A session after the film. Amongst other fascinating facts, we learnt that Chris found what would be the time travel machine (a vintage fairground bumper car) on a late night trawl of eBay. It cost him £99 and lives in his flat!
I'd not worn this Afghan-style dress for a while, originally from Urban Outfitters but bought via Vinted for a fraction of the original price. It's one of those ideal for swimming dresses with no faffy fastenings so can be pulled off and back on again with ease.
I do like a mash-up! Along with my Indian-made dress and handmade in El Paso cowboy boots...
Yesterday I spent the day over at Liz's, helping her set up a Vinted account. We ended up listing 16 items, with some things attracting watchers within minutes (I love it when that happens). I wore a maxi skirt I'd made from some vintage Anokhi fabric and liberated this J Crew western shirt from the stockroom - I was shocked when I discovered how expensive their clothes are, when I see Made in China on a label, I assume it's cheap sh*t.

Despite the weather people on the telly going on about the high temperatures we're supposed to be enjoying, the wind is really chilly although I did brave bare legs and Lottas to drop my Vinted sales parcels off in the lockers this morning.
I was very grateful for this shaggy sage green wool-blend cardi I spotted for £3 in the clearance chazza the other day, it's 1990s Monsoon and very cosy.
I must dash, we're meeting friends in Spoons shortly & I need to change into something warmer! See you soon.
That film sounds great, I wonder if they are showing it near here. I love the Greek blouse, but I always love all of your clothes. It’s freezing up here too. I’m not being fooled this time. Xxx
ReplyDeleteThat film is destined to become a cult classic, it's so much fun! x
DeleteI'm pleased that your appointment wasn't as serious as previously thought - phew! - You look lovely in the Urban Outfitters dress Vix x
ReplyDeleteThanks, Flis! x
Deletelove your fashion posts! the Audrey skirt was made to go with that blouse - what a great combo. we have a Light cinema and i would like to see that film! thanks for the review. Happy Anniversary, hope you both have many more to look forward to. Betty
ReplyDeleteThanks, Betty! There's some beautiful embroidered blouses on Vinted but I loved the green embroidery on that one.
DeleteThe Light is fantastic, I can't wait till we're 60 so we can get a discount! xxx
That sounds like a fun movie. I love the mock documentary concept and the fact they are real vintage dealers. Imagine if that would happen btw. People taking items from past. How many lives would have been changed? A fascinating idea for sure. I love that you were treated to a Q& A after the movie.
ReplyDeleteHappy 33rd 'never had a wedding anniversary'!
It's great you never need an excuse to have a good time.
And it's wonderful you did have a great time.
I love how you outfits always tell a story. And all the items you wear.
That perfect for swimming dress is wonderful.
I like that hand of Fatima pendant, very pretty!
Wonderful accessories!
We always joke about having a time machine so we could go back and buy clothes at 1970s prices! It's such a quirky little film, something us Brits do really well. xxx
DeleteThe cream Greek blouse is stunning and the coin necklace is perfect with it!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kate! I was tempted to dye it but Jon talked me down!
DeleteWell happy anniversary to you both! I'm glad to hear you didn't have to have to have root canal. It's probably a very good thing for my wallet I'm not on vinted! though the way selling on Ebay is going I might find myself pushed that way, they are making it more and more difficult
ReplyDeleteThanks, G! I resisted Vinted for ages, its so addictive and the algorithm is freakishly accurate, their Recommended For You section looks like someone's rummaged through my wardrobe. It's so much easier to list and sell than eBay and sellers get so much more protection from dodgy buyers! x
DeleteThe thought of time travel fascinates me so I hope I can find that movie. The last outfit might be one of my favorites I've seen you wear- the skirt, blouse and jacket is just gorgeous on you.
ReplyDeleteIt's such fun, we loved it! Thanks so much, Sam! I'm always hunting for the perfect embroidered blouse, I think I might have finally found it! x
DeleteI love all your outfits. So chic and elegant.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteThat movie looks amazing.
ReplyDeleteI hope it makes it over to you, it is going to be a cult classic! x
DeleteLoving all your outfits. The 90's cardigan and the white top with embroidery are my faves. Just a question is it better to sell on Vinted than it is eBay? Just wondering as I know you used to sell on eBay.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Carole! I'm so happy to find the perfect blouse to go with that wrap skirt.
DeleteEbay sales dwindled to almost nothing, Vinted is so much better - its a lot more straightforward to list on there and I love that you don't have to worry about postage costs, it's all set up ready! x
I'm loving the sound of that delightfully daft film, and £ 15 sounds like great value for a pizza and film followed by a Q&A. The perfect treat for your Never Had A Wedding Anniversary. Or any other night, really.
ReplyDeleteThe Urban Outfitters dress is gorgeous, and I'm swooning over your Hand of Fatima pendant, lapis ring and Kuchi cuff, which I can't believe you snaffled for £ 1.
I'm not blaming you for keeping that denim shirt, and the vintage Greek blouse is indeed the perfect companion for that skirt! xxx P.S. Glad to hear about the tooth!
That film was so much fun, proper daft British humour. I can imagine Stephen Fry chuckling when he got the script!
DeleteThanks, Ann! Vinted is amazing, it's like having a charity shop at your disposal 24 hours a day, lots of fab things but highly addictive, too! xxx
ReplyDeleteA wonderful anniversary. <3
The outfits you're showing today are so pretty and spring-like in color.
Thanks, Andrea! xxx
DeleteThe Greek blouse is gorgeous, but I'm glad to see you have a cardi to wear over it. It may be sunny, but the wind is still keeping the temperature feeling rather fresh. I'm relieved I'm not the only one feeling chilly. When I walked through the town earlier, you'd have though summer had arrived, the way some people were dressed. X
ReplyDeleteHi Jules! It wasn't until I was gardening on Saturday morning that I finally felt warm! Like you I kept seeing folk walking around in vests and shorts and thinking they were mad (or I'd got something wrong with me!) xxx
DeleteI love the sound of that film, and £15 for a pizza and a film is an absolute bargain, we pay that just for the cinema! Your £5 Vinted blouse is lovely and really suits you, in fact the whole outfit you put together, although different from your usual attire is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sue! The Light is fantastic, they even do reduced admission for the over 60s (20 months to go!) We've just swapped our home insurance to the meerkats so it's two for one tickets on a Tuesday and Wednesday, too! xxx
DeleteHello, long time no see, but happy to be back here! You look gorgeous as always! <3 Your style is impeccable and unique, I love your clothes and the jewellery. And the cats look adorable (we also have two cats). And the castle! I envy you for living in the land of mansions and castles.... Honestly do, I would live in a castle if I could. We have some here in Finland but nothing to brag about. :D
ReplyDeleteWelcome back to Blogland! It's lovely to hear from you! xxx
DeleteThe movie "Time Travel Is Dangerous" looks extremely entertaining and fun to watch!
ReplyDeleteI am loving the pink Afghan-style dress, and all of the fabulous vintage finds you modelled so beautifully in the photos above!
Belatedly, happy 33rd Never Had A Wedding Anniversary! It looks like you had a fabulous time!
Thanks so much, my dear friend. It's great to hear from you! x
DeleteTime travel is dangerous, sound like movie I would like to see.
ReplyDeleteIt's great fun, I hope it gets to the USA! x

DeleteWhat a fantastic bargain! That 1990s Monsoon cardigan sounds like the perfect cozy find, especially for just £3. Love how you managed to get something so stylish and warm at such a great price. Enjoy your time with friends at Spoons and stay warm! Catch up soon! 🧣💚🍹
ReplyDeleteThank you! x
DeleteHello, Vix,
ReplyDeleteI love doing time travel through my blog! But it looks like that trip didn't go so well! You manage to find every bargain that makes your wardrobe so unique, I loved your last look! And by the way congratulations on your anniversary together! Hugs
You are the queen of time travel, I love how you show your outfits from years ago beside the current photograph it shows that being sustainable can be stylish! xxx
DeleteWhat a great concept for a movie!
ReplyDeleteYour jewelry slays me. You have a wonderful collection in so many color-ways. I am hoping it warms up here as I have a few dresses I'd like to wear to the aquatic center. As for J. Crew, it costs more than it should, which is why I jump on it when I can get a deal (like 99 cents) at a thrift. I'd found a madras jacket for Tommy years ago, but he felt it was too tight. I refused to let him part with it. He dug it out today, and it fits! It's a nice brand but boy is it pricey -- and only going to get more-so with tariffs.
I loved the film, it was brilliantly bonkers! My dream would be to have a time machine and go and buy all the Indian dresses my Mum used to pick up for a few quid from market stalls in the early 1970s!
DeleteIt's so much easier to wear a dress down to the baths, I threw caution to the wind this morning and went bare-legged, too!
That J Crew shirt is very well made so I'm not surprised you snaffle anything you see in Tommy's or your size. I did see that they sell a Made in America range for- understandably - megabucks. xxx
Stephen Fry and Brian Blessed are BOTH involved in this film project? Two of the men near the top of my "People with whom I'd pay to lunch!" roster?! Somehow, some way, I shall view this film.
ReplyDeleteClose-ups of your jewellery collection are always appreciated. Your remark about the spectacular lapis ring ("...brought back from Lebanon") gave me a wistful moment, 'tho. Once upon a time, Lebanon was a business destination for my family's travelers and the university there was always high on their lists of desirable institutions for post-secondary education. Were Time Travel actually possible...
Hello Beth! Chris did really well to get such a stellar cast, didn't he? I was very pleased to see a rave review in The Guardian, too. It just goes to show that you don't need a million pound budget and special effects to make a great film!
DeleteMy Dad was in Lebanon when civil war broke out in the 1970s and went missing for a couple of months, my Mum was convinced he was dead and almost died of shock when he turned up on the doorstep weeks later! xxx
You jewelery is all so beautiful. The movie sounds like a hoot. Also happy to hear you didn't need a root canal.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Hena! I was relieved about the tooth, too!
DeleteThat film sounds brilliant!!! Totally would watch that! The new Greek top is a beauty. I hope Liz gets some buyers for her things!x
ReplyDeleteIt was hilarious, Kezzie! I've often joked to people who ask where I get all my stock from that I've got a time machine hidden away! xxx
DeleteI'll keep an eye out for the film.Happy not a wedding anniversary to you both.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I owned that green cardigan at some point, but in black. It looks better on you.
-goody
Lovely to hear from you, Goody! Thanks very much! That film will be a cult classic in a few years time, its like Spinal Tap for vintage fiends! xxx
DeleteA movie and pizza night out, sounds perfect to me! That's amazing that you've been together 33 years. I was happy to be with my ex for 4 years and was proud of that but he ended things a month ago. I hope I find my person who I can have a decades long relationship with. X
