On Monday morning (day 136) it was just Stephen who accompanied me downstairs at 6.30am. Frank hadn't eaten the previous day, had gone to sleep on the bench on the landing when I went for a shower at 6pm and was still there when I got up, it was unusual for him not to join us in bed for a cuddle. I did my daily Wii Fit session, took a mug of tea up to Jon and when he joined me for breakfast at just gone eight we decided to call the vets and book him in. After we'd got dressed we sat outside in the sunshine, drinking coffee, compiling a to-do list and flicking through one of our gardening books as we were expecting visitors.
Earlier this year I'd sold some land to the lovely couple who'd bought the parental home and, after giving my brother half, we'd enough cash left to replace all six upstairs windows which, although we'd had them patched up 15 years ago, were now beyond repair. Living in a conservation area we have to replace "like for like" so have to have wood framed windows (although we're upgrading to double glazed ones to make Stonecroft more energy efficient). Rather than a window company we're using a long-established local joinery firm who specialise in working on heritage homes. The boss visited last month and the quote was a lot less painful than we'd expected. Yesterday, armed with masks and hand sanitiser the chaps who would be fitting the windows came round to take precise measurements. Due to Covid there's a bit of a backlog but they should be installed by the end of Autumn. I'm excited about having windows that aren't draughty, don't leak, don't smell mouldy and won't leave a trail of flaking paint and wood when we open them.
Monday's outfit was a handmade (but not by me) 1970s patchwork maxi skirt with a recycled sari silk wrap top, vintage Polaroid sunglasses, a silver pendant from Goa and some of my new Afghan earrings.
The rest of the morning was spent deadheading, watering and generally pottering around the garden. We'd expected sunshine and showers but it turned out to be dry and rather lovely. After a break for noodles, Jon emptied the works van to clean the interior and I attempted to wash the blanket we use on the bed when we're camping at festivals.
The washing machine had been playing up for a while. A Hotpoint ex-display model we'd haggled over in a now-defunct electrical chain in the mid-2000s, it kept sticking mid-cycle, usually remedied with a swift kick, and the spin function was hit and miss to say the least. When Jon went to retrieve the blanket the door handle snapped off in his hand. Oh dear! Leaving him to prise open the door with a screwdriver I went on-line to find a reasonably priced, A++ rated washing machine with a 6 kg capacity, basic functions and an energy-efficient speedy, cool wash. British company Bush had the best ratings and plenty of positive reviews and at £179.99 (including delivery) was within budget, so we placed an order and arranged for it to be delivered on Saturday.
As promised, I did my roots and read my book in the sunshine for twenty minutes while the dye developed. Tea was a can of carrot, coriander & lentil soup Jon had found in the festival food stash. It had passed the sell-by date but we ate it anyway, accompanied by some of Jon's homemade bread.
Later we started to watch the chilling BBC documentary series The Rise of the Nazis, but had to turn it off part of the way through episode two as Jon had nodded off. Talking of nodding off, we abandoned A Suitable Boy twenty minutes into episode two on Sunday night. Man, it was so bad it was shocking, I couldn't bear to waste another minute of my life on such melodramatic drivel.
On Tuesday (day 137) Frank followed me downstairs at 6am, hoovering up the rest of the food Jon had put down for him when he'd got him out of bed at 1am. Although he seemed a lot brighter I kept him in when Stephen went exploring, getting a growl and a hiss for my trouble. I did my Wii Fit session and Jon joined me for our fruit & yogurt breakfast soon afterwards as he needed to be at the vets for the first appointment of the day.
By the time I'd washed up, mopped the kitchen floor and dressed Jon & Frank were back, the vet said it was nothing to worry about but gave him a combined antibiotic & painkilling jab just to be on the safe side, like humans cats can have a couple of off days. Both lads are booked in for their boosters on Friday morning which'll be a logistical nightmare.
Today's outfit was an early 1970s Phool midi skirt with a quilted hem, a vintage cheesecloth blouse by Ayesha Davar and a Gujarati amulet necklace.
After a coffee we drove into Walsall. We called into the clearance charity shop as I wanted some printed cotton clothing to chop up for face masks. This proved to be easier said than done as almost all of the stock is discarded high street fast fashion and is almost entirely synthetic, but I managed to find three decent pieces (including a rather nice Indian block print) in addition to a vintage hand-rolled scarf & 1970s tooled leather belt for a total of £9.
Next stop was Wilko where we bought some new mugs to replace the chipped charity shop horrors we'd been using for years and some seeds (lettuce, beetroot, red leaf basil & radicchio). I wanted white thread but it was out of stock so I bought a houseplant instead - as you do.
Although masks are only mandatory in shops I noticed that almost everyone who passed us in the street was wearing one. My choice for our shopping adventure was the one I'd made last week from a 1970s Tatton by Bevis screen printed curtain which I thought complimented my tan Lottas and the pom-pom embellished basket I bought for £2 from the clearance charity shop earlier this year, still with its "Handmade by artisans in Vietnam" tags attached.
Back at home we christened the new mugs, I repotted my zebrina and hand-washed the charity shop garments (no washing machine!) and pegged them out on the line. After the previous day's warm sunshine, today was a bit of a let down, with feeble 16°c temperatures and a brisk wind, but at least it dried the washing quickly.
After our noodles Jon popped out for fresh fruit and cat food as we were running low on both. On his return he sanitised the lot before spending the afternoon sanding down and painting the boxed-in kitchen pipes.
Meanwhile I fired up the sewing machine and, using the remains of an old cushion cover, I made a couple more William Morris Strawberry Thief face masks.
Tea was posh shop-bought sour dough pizza with sweet potato fries and we'll be watching the rest of the Nazi documentary we started last night, that's if Lord Jon can stay awake. Mind you, he is 54 tomorrow!
Stay safe, stay fabulous and see you soon.
PS Apologies for not yet responding to your comments on my last post or visiting any blogs, I'm not sure where the time has gone, I blame the cats. I haven't even wrapped any presents yet.

I'm going to have to re-read Vikram Seth's masterpiece, the TV adaptation has ruined my memories of the book |

Happy birthday for tomorrow Jon... I will be ancient on Thursday.
ReplyDeleteA fellow Leo! Hope you had a lovely birthday, Cherie! xxx
Delete54 is now a distant memory for me! Happy Birthday, Jon! Glad Frank is on the mend. How exciting to get new windows! Mine need replaced too but it's always down to dosh! Hope you have a lovely day tomorrow for Jon's birthday!
ReplyDeleteWeren't we grown-up to spend our money on windows rather than something extravagant? I blame lockdown! Thanks, Catmac, he had a fab birthday! xxx
DeletePS I obviously was in love with the exclamation mark!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm equally guilty, I often read through my blog before I press "publish" and have to cull loads of them. xxx
DeleteI am so happy you replaced the windows. Having fine means a lot.
ReplyDeleteI also love the mugs, so pretty (and I definitely have a thing for mugs).
You second outfit absolutely stole my heart, it's just perfect.
As for the first outfit I just have to mention the set you made: I was sure it was the some set not just a match. Splendid!
Hope your kitty will feel better soon
xx
L
Hello, Lyosha! I really like those mugs, they look like something we'd picked up on our travels rather than a British high street shop. xxx
DeleteSorry to hear about Frank's malaise. He had a rough start to life, which probably left some ill effects on his autoimmune system. Several of my rescues have had very odd afflictions, indeed. It's good you've got a vet who will allow you to accompany them into the office. Earlier in the pandemic, I waited out a sick spell for one of mine, rather than chance the outcome of taking him to the vet, handing him in his large-dog carrier out the hatch, and waiting outside.
ReplyDeleteWonderful windows! Having lived in a farmhouse whose north-facing windows rattled in gales and needed quilts hung as curtains to cope -- I do appreciate your appreciation of upgrades!
He is a worry and I think you're right. In order to get him to eat Jon popped out and bought him pilchards in tomato sauce, sardines in sunflower oil and line-caught red salmon. He's already addicted to prawns! What with his diet and the trips to the vets we'll only have enough cash for one window at this rate! xxx
DeleteOur washing machine packed up earlier this year too, it's good they can be delivered so fast isn't it. Handwashing is a thankless task, I hate doing it.
ReplyDeleteYou've been my canary for A Suitable Boy, I am taking your word for it and avoiding it, I really hate have a good book spoilt for me by a bad adaptation.
I'm glad Frank's ok, good luck with the injections.
Happy Birthday to Jon for tomorrow, wishing you both a lovely day. xxx
Fancy us both having broken washing machines! The only time hand washing gives me any pleasure is rinsing out my bikini in Goa and hanging it on the balcony.
DeleteYes, do yourself a favour and avoid A Suitable Boy. We're not alone, I've seen some terrible reviews online. xxx
It’s all going on at your house isn’t it. Windows, washer, Frank and going out shopping. Not to mention Jon’s birthday tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteYour outfits are lovely, I like the Phool skirt with your clogs.
I’ve got the William Morris strawberry thief tea towels and cups in red. The blue version is lovely.
Hope Jon has a good day and you manage a drink or two somewhere nice. You’ll probably say “home” haha.
I’ve posted his birthday box off today so it might be a bit late sorry xxx
Isn't it just? Never a dull moment round here!
DeleteThe more I wear my clogs the more pairs I want, they're a bit of an addiction.
I love the red version Strawberry Thief, my Mum had a footstool covered in it when I was a youngster.
Jon had a lovely day and didn't miss the pub or going for a curry at all, he says that the longer he goes without the less appealing they're becoming. What's happened to us?! You're so kind, I'll let you know when it lands! xxx
Hi there Vix! you look splendid in both outfits and the new earrings look so good. Now lets hope everything goes smooth tomorrow for Jons birthday, feline friends are to get well and all household appliances to behave themselves. I am loving those mugs and those tiles and all these peaks at the kitchen so exciting! now new windows. You seem to be going out more and with all those fab masks bet you look the most fashionable in town! My nasturtiam seeds have come up! I put them in some old galvanised buckets in the rustic garden. I was so pleased to see them shooting up. I broke my ebay ban but I am saying the dress is from mother-in-law for my birthday as she gave me money. I will now go back to being good lol we are going to give up on A Suitable boy too we were actually laughing in places we should not have been. Hubster will be pleased as I could tell it was not appealing at all. Loved the peak at your bookshelf you are so well read. Have a great day tomorrow and happy birthday Jon, your lovely lady is a ray of sunshine in these strange days Shazxx
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Shaz. Dresses are so easy to wear, I do love challenging myself to wear skirts and tops.
DeleteI'd set my heart on some gorgeous black glazed pottery mugs on the Wilko website but they didn't have any in stock, the ones we chose weren't on the website and I loved them on sight, they've got a bit of a Moroccan tile look to them, haven't they?
Great plan, getting your Mum-in-Law to pay for your eBay dress, a present you actually want and sticking to your ban at the same time.
Jon was hugely relieved when I pulled the plug on A Suitable Boy, he hated it from the first 10 minutes! xxx
Hi there, glad to hear Frank is getting better, these pets are such a worry!!Happy Birthday to Jon tomorrow, hope you have a wonderful day!! The house and garden are absolutely spectacular, you can be so proud of yourselves, the new windows will be wonderful. You're looking lovely as usual, love the outfits! Just a short comment, can't see very well!! have a "thing" in my eye called a "chalazion" after a month on cortisone cream and a week on cortisone tablets think they're going to "pop" it tomorrow. I'll let you know how I get on. Keep safe and keep those posts coming, they really make my day!! xxx
ReplyDeleteHello Diana! Pets are such a worry, aren't they? I feel quite traumatised after this week.
DeleteI'm very sorry to hear about your eye problem, the "popping" bit made my knees go a bit funny. get well soon and stay safe! xxx
Sorry, didn't mean to make your knees go wobbly!! They injected it with cortisone, problem solved, now I can see perfectly well! Have a fab weekend, I hear you're in for a real heatwave, so enjoy the sun but take care!! xxx
DeleteTime does go so fast sometimes. I have to keep a rein on my blogger time or else it consumes my life. I only have a few blogs that I religiously tap into (yours of course being one). But of course then I go off wandering through the enormous blogasphere. Love your recycled sari top and jewels. Did a big sigh of nice envy when I saw the photos. Glad your fur boy turned out to be ok.
ReplyDeleteTell me about it, I'm way behind yet again! I'm on an epic catch-up and am not allowed a rum until I've responded to Thursday's comments or it will be next wek by the time I've done it. xxx
DeleteI love how you go shopping for thread and get a houseplant instead :)
ReplyDeleteGentle hugs for Frank. I hope he's feeling a little brighter now. And Birthday wishes to Jon for tomorrow. Will he be needing his pipe and slippers? ;)
Houseplants are always the answer!
DeleteFrank's just raced up the garden in pursuit of another cat, I think he must be feeling better! xxx
Happy Birthday Jon and just I love your lovely blogs.Love to you both and Frank,Stephen and Jacob, xxxxx
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Debi! I hope you're making the most of this glorious weather with a cheeky Guinness or three in the garden and a disco! xxx
DeleteHappy Birthday to Jon...er Lord Jon :)
ReplyDeleteI got out some vintage quilting fabric to make more masks-we'll see if I ever do it. I have been buying such nice ones from independent sellers it is hard to convince myself to bother.
Thanks so much!
DeleteI really enjoy making masks, it's a great way of passing the time when it's raining but finding the right fabric is a nightmare! xxx
Hope sweet Frank continues to be alright. Yes, some days all of us just want to say "Meh!" and forget it. :-) Love, Andrea xoxo
ReplyDeleteThanks, Andrea! xxxx
DeleteHappy birthday sir err I mean lord Jon lol..... it’s like us were has all the time gone!!! When we got back yesterday milo knocked me off my feet as if He hadn’t seen me for a year and then sniffed as if to say strange dog smell. But once I gave him a bone he soon forgot. I totally forgot about magmas smell!!
ReplyDeleteKitchens shaping up nicely I see. Poor frank maybe the weather is getting to him. Milo will have days when he won’t eat. Then he is like a train!! Looking good as always. I felt sad about the vintage shop in Sendai closing down but maybe this will prove how many businesses will survive thanks to covid. I am going to have another go at making a mask. Paul is going to sit with me as I lose my patience to easily. Take care and keep safe
The sniffing treatment! You should have seen our two's faces when G&T brought presents round yesterday, they've got two cats and obviously there's a strange cat smell going on.
DeleteI think 'cos he had a poor start in life Frank's immune system is a bit rubbish. It's been 32°C today and you want to see what he polished off today!
Sometimes Jon has to sit with me while I talk through what I'm going to make and how I'm going to make it. How's Paul with the sewing machine? Jon's pretty good. xxxx
Happy Birthday Jon!
ReplyDeleteMy washing machine died this week too, luckily I'm on top of the washing, which isn't always the case, I really don't fancy trying to get Andy's work clothes clean by hand!
I'm glad Frank is OK.
How lovely to be getting new windows, they'll make such a difference to the warmth of the house, and I'm sure they will be beautifully crafted too.
I'm adding A Suitable Boy to my to-read list, but have knocked it off my watch list, the adverts I've seen, and what you've said, have rather put me off. I don't seem to have much time for TV at the moment anyway, I still haven't started watching Mrs America.
Lovely new mugs, nothing like a new mug to make your tea taste better :) and your Strawberry Thief face masks are beautiful!
Hope you both have a lovely day birthday celebrating.
Take care
xx
With Andy's job you really do need a decent washing machine, don't you? Ours is arriving between 7am and 9am tomorrow, I hope it stays hot and sunny as the washing basket is getting a bit full!
DeleteYou've love Mrs America when you get round to it. Definitely give A Suitable Boy a miss. Did you ever see Taboo with Tom Hardy? That's on the i-player at the moment, it's a bit of a mix up between Peaky Blinders and The Luminaries if you fancy some supernatural weird goings on and fabulous Steampunk-ish costumes. xxx
poor frank! hope he feels better!
ReplyDeleteexiting news about the windows!! the BWH is not listed, but we install recycled, old wood framed windows anyway - double glazed (or an extra winter window) is a standard here with our freezy winters - back in the days i must ad.....
lovely blouse&skirt looks - and the pompom bag is pretty - maybe something i could try to do a knock of with DIY pompoms and any bag or basket. sorry for the washing machine, even want to think about such an event.... but good that you´r able to find a new one fast. btw. we have a 7kg one (was cheaper!) - never regretted it. i even wash the feather bedding with it and winter wool coats.
now i know what to do with our harvested zucchini - a pizza!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JON!
xxxxx
Thanks, Beate! He had a fab day!
DeleteFrank's a lot better now, such a relief.
Old wood windows are the way to go, ours are going to be a bit of a challenge as the house is so wonky but the joiners are lovely and I have every faith in them!
You should pimp up a basket with a few pompoms.
Our last machine was 7kg but the 6kg was cheaper and we should just about be able to get the feather quilt and blankets in it! I hope. xxx
Wishing Jon a very happy birthday today!!! hope he has lots of pressies and a few rum and cokes and a great time being 54 :) Love that vintage top, it is going to really earn its keep with all your skirts. I have downloaded the mask pattern you shared but not had time to make any - yours are so pretty, I am noticing more and more people wearing really nice ones, who would ever think we would be colour coordinating them to our outfits, but we are! Your plant (tradescanthia I think) is beautiful, I have a small cutting recently given by a friend and it's rooted, once they get going there's no stopping them, they look amazing hanging and trail beautifully, bits fall off easily for repotting too. I have a bag from Vietnam (Hoi An) I haven't used which I bargained down to four quid, but I felt so mean I gave the old woman eight quid, she was so happy she hugged and kissed me and wouldn't let go! I must dig it out, it's eco friendly and ideal for trips to the shops. Hope your Frank perks up, sometimes they eat all kinds of disgusting stuff we don't know about which can make them off for days (frogs for example). Working the mushroom shed for the next few days but hope to do some more solar powered spring cleaning soon (I am like you, I can sometimes clean until small hours of the morning if the mood takes me and plough through diy jobs with relish too!).
ReplyDeleteThanks, Betty! His 54th went really well and yes, he had lots of presents and plenty of booze, we've even managed two socially distanced get togethers in the garden, too.
DeleteIsn't it strange how masks are now part of everyday life? My friend is making herself a new bag with an easily accessible pocket at the front for her mask!
I've really enjoyed making those masks but you do need to dedicate a day to making them, they seem to take me ages.
You sound like me haggling stuff down and them giving the seller more money. I'd love to see your Vietnamese bag.
Wilko's have some gorgeous plants and the prices are great, they've even got little £2 cuttings that look really healthy. I have to limit myself!
cats are so lovely to look at but eat (and do) some dreadful things, don't they? I've no idea why we love them so much sometimes! xxx
PS Don't work too hard!
A few years ago Bush was bought out but as you say it is British again now.Owned by Sainsbury's ,apparently.I don't have the worry of broken washing machines anymore. Not since coming to live in my retirement flat. We have 2 new Miele washers and 2 dryers.in the laundry room. They are posh...the drums have a light in them.
ReplyDeleteYes, they're stuff is mostly made in Turkey but it's really good and reasonably priced. We've got a rather cool Bush retro fridge and one of their 1950s repro radios (charity shop find).
DeleteHaving a laundry room with top-end electrics that someone else has to maintain sounds really luxurious. What a wise move! xxx
Hello there, we live just round the corner from you and are in the same conservation area. Would you be kind enough to email the name of the window people you engaged? Thanks in advance Andy & Lynda garretripel@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteAll done! xxx
DeleteGosh, so much going on. I love the new mugs, I have a thing for mugs that 'feel right' in your hands and always pick them up and cradle them before buying.
ReplyDeleteHope Lord Jon has an amazing birthday ... and that you managed to get his presents wrapped in time. The time really is just whizzing by isn't it!!
I'm the same, mugs have to feel good, don't they? Hooray for Wilkos!
DeleteLord Jon had a brilliant birthday and I was able to wake him at the crack of dawn with wrapped presents! xxx
Hope Frank is feeling better!. And great to know about your windows being replaced (energy efficiency is good news!)
ReplyDeleteI'm loving your patchwork skirt and those magnificent sleeves!. You totally Rock!. Love your jewellery indeed!. And also loving your midi skirt and the cheesecloth blouse, and your matchy mask!. I'm loving the warm earthy colors you've been favouring lately, so inspiring!
Love these new fabrics you purchased, so nice colors!, and totally fab William Morris print on your masks!. Lovely to know that more people are wearing masks, as this means that everybody is going to be safer!.
Wishing Jon a happy birthday and lots of presents and Fun!.
besos
(Totally understand your feeling about catching up with comments and blogs, as it's really time-consuming!. Thank you for being so kind!)
Franks lots better, thanks Monica! We're rather excited about the windows, home improvements take on a whole new meaning after months of being at home and realising how much they needed replacing. If we were on the road at festivals we'd have ignored them like we usually do!
DeleteI'm really impressed by how many people are embracing mask wearing, particularly the young. there is hope! xxx

ReplyDeleteMany Happy Returns Jon, hope it’s been a good one.
ReplyDeleteSorry to have been rather AWOL the last month, think I am caught up now and loving all the colour :-)
Love your outfit co-ordinated face masks, I’ve made a few but come to the conclusion they are all rather too sensible, I need to rummage in the “strange fabric that will never make it into a quilt” pile and see what I can come up with. 🤪
Thanks, Jayne! Don't worry about falling behind, I'm exactly the same.
DeleteYou do need to get your weirdest fabric out and make some crazy masks, it makes wearing them a bit more bearable! xxx
Oh my, Monday was quite the day, wasn't it. Glad to hear Frank just had an off day, and that you've found a new washing machine within budget. We thought there was something wrong with ours last weekend, but it turned out to be false alarm. Our upstairs windows are in the same sorry state as your current ones, and will need replacing at some point. Both of your outfits are gorgeous, as usual, and I particularly love Monday's patchwork skirt and silk wrap top. The silver pendant and new earrings are the perfect finishing touches. I'm loving the new mugs too, I don't think we have two matching ones! The strawberry thief face masks are gorgeous and I can't wait to see the ones you make from the cotton garments you found. I've got quite a collection in the meantime, having found a little ethnic shop just around the corner from my office with a huge choice of masks. We have to wear them all the time now, so I thought I'd better stock up and treat them as another accessory! Hope you and the birthday boy had a wonderful NT visit today! xxx
ReplyDeleteI know! What a day! I'm glad your washing machine lived to see another day, ours has been threatening for ages, I'll be tempted to hug the delivery driver tomorrow - but I'd probably end up being arrested!
DeleteEveryone seems to be selling masks these days, even the charity shop had some quite funky looking ones on the counter, there really is no excuse not to have one, is there? xxxx
Happiest of Birthdays to the Other Half of You. May he (and you) have many, many more.xxx
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! xxx
DeleteI hope Frank is feeling better Vix-animals can worry us so much-I even worry about their poo if it's not the usual.I did my monthly shop today and nearly everyone had a mask on apart from the staff.I chose the wrong cashier-a nice young man but as he was was scanning my shopping and I was putting it in my bags I noticed he was sniffing and wiping his nose on his arm I'm hoping it was a just a summer cold x
ReplyDeleteThanks, Flis! Our pets really are a worry, aren't they? I'm the same as you and am constantly mithering if they do anything out of the ordinary!
DeleteHopefully that cashier had just got hay fever. Jon had to take the lads for their boosters this morning and started sneezing. He had to reassure everyone in the vets that it was pollen and not Covid! xxx
Sorry to hear the Frank was feeling off - hope he's back to his old self after the vet visit. That is too bad about the washing machine - I've always had secondhand ones and I'm hoping my current one lasts for a couple more years. I'm sending Birthday wishes to Jon for tomorrow - hope you have a lovely day out!
ReplyDeleteI suppose the washing machine did well to last 15 years although our tumble drier, which we inherited from Jon's grandparents is 37 years old (I've only used it twice this year, we prefer line dried washing!)
DeleteFrank's a lot better today, such a relief!
Thanks for Jon's birthday wishes, he enjoyed his lockdown birthday! xxx
Hope Frank is fully recovered and back to his old self, our pets can be such a worry.
ReplyDeleteGood you could replace the washer quickly and within budget. No doubt the new windows will make quite a difference, lucky you finding tradesman with the skills , a bit scarce around here.
I do like that Phool skirt. Happy Birthday to Jon, enjoy the celebrations. xx
Thanks, Jill! Pets are a worry, what with windows and washing machines we'll be penniless at this rate! xxx
DeleteBeautiful outfits! Monday look is very flattering. That wrapped silk top looks amazing on you. The patched 1970s maxi skirt is so arty, I love it. Stunning necklace as well. The second styling is just as fabulous. The white blouse and midi skirt combo is very pretty. I like the straw bag and the brown heeled sandals (they look very comfy, I have a similar pair).
ReplyDeleteI hope Frank is just having an off day and will return to him old self. It is good that the vet gave him antibiotics just to be on the safe side, one never knows.
The face masks you made are wonderful. Nice to know that people are wearing their face masks not just for stores, I guess it does help to feel one safer.
How wonderful you're getting new windows----and wood framed windows at that. I adore wood framed windows. It is great you are able to get someone local to do them for you. My parents wanted to put wood framed windows on their summer home, but there is only one guy on the island that still does them, so the waiting list is long and they decided to get plastic ones in the end. Plastic never looks good on traditional homes, even if there are wood imitations that are passable, still there is nothing like the traditional wood ones, isn't it so? I used to love repainting wood frames on my grandmother's house. It was my job every summer to paint all the wood chairs, wood frames, doors and etc. I always loved holding a brush in my hand, even when the painting job was more about maintenance than creativity.
Thanks so much, Ivana! That silk top is so patched up that there's more repairs than there is actual silk, I think but it's so light and easy to wear.
DeleteIt does appear that the majority of people have embraced face masks, the teenagers all seem to wear them almost like it's the latest trend, I suppose that's a good thing!
I can't see the appeal of plastic windows either, our last house was the only one in the street with wooden ones and the lady who bought it within an hour of it going on sale did so because we'd left the original windows intact. xxx
Happy Birthday, Lord Jon! I had a bit of a panic about poor ol' Frank, but I'm so thankful he is okay. Phew! Our little furry guys can really scare us!
ReplyDeleteLove all your clothes - sigh, so pretty! And all that gorgeous silver jewelry. I love that you mirrored your mask pattern to line up the designs, nice detail. I've also been shopping for old clothes that could be made into masks (not for me to sew, thank goodness for a sewing friend!).
I hope your new windows will insulate better. We have similar restrictions here for heritage homes - it's a pain for the owners.
I laughed at Jon nodding off during the show - L does that too. 9:15pm, and he's snoring on the couch. I just let him sleep. Ha!
Thanks, Sheila! Don't they just? We've both been watching him like hawks all week, he is a worry.
DeleteIn this weird new world we may as well wear fabulous masks to compliment our clothes. I'm glad you've got a friend who can make them for you. Finding the right fabric is a real struggle and elastic is like gold dust!
You're kind to L, I keep throwing cushions at Jon! xxx
I hope Frank's feeling better now. Cats are resilient little beasts; whenever ours have been off-colour an antibiotic shot's usually done the trick.
ReplyDeleteYou'll love having new windows! I was so happy when we got ours done. They're plastic, but we picked ones that look like the sash windows they were replacing. Your house will feel so much warmer! (Beware of damp, though: I keep one bedroom window permanently cracked unless it's REALLY cold because our old house has solid walls, and condensation can form, along with mould if left long enough. If you've still got your fireplaces though that shouldn't be such a problem as you'll still have good air flow.)
Happy belated birthday to Jon!
