A day without dressing up really is a day wasted. My wardrobe is stuffed with crazy vintage clothes and it would be a crime not to wear them at every available opportunity.
So,despite today being far from glamorous, starting with cake for breakfast (we'd run out of cereal) followed by a tedious three loads of laundry, a bastard massive heap of ironing and a quick trip round the charity shops, I chose to wear this glorious 1970s cotton jumpsuit with big hair & 6" wedges.
The cotton jumpsuit was from high-end New York based vintage business Morphew. They've been fans of my blog for a while and when they offered me a choice of something fabulous from their website I almost bit their hands off. It arrived within a week (I've waited twice as long for Brit-based eBay sellers to deliver) packed carefully within in a quality garment bag along with a wooden coat hanger and a glossy look book.

While I love a bargain if I had unlimited cash I'd have no hesitation in the odd vintage splurge and, believe me, I'd happily fritter away obscene amounts of cash away on some of their stock.
The jumpsuit wasn't the only exciting parcel to arrive. Here's the July issue of Vintage Life magazine featuring yours truly in an article on 1970s fashion (what else?) written by Liza of Vintage Knitter fame.
I also got papped by The Telegraph when we were at Glastonbury. I've no idea if the photo got published or ended up on the cutting room floor (the press seem to prefer twenty-something Kate Moss wannabes in denim cut-offs and designer wellies than mad old birds in vintage Hawaiian maxis and Indian parasols) but it was exciting at the time.
Two posts in a week? That'll be because don't have to leave for our next festival until Friday. Bliss!

Talking of which we'll be trading at Liverpool's Speke Hall as part of their annual Vintage Festival this coming weekend and camping alongside our mates Boomerang Retro in the grounds of the spectacular Tudor mansion. The cider's already on ice, I can't wait!
Don't you look fab! I love the picture of you, Suzanne's really talented. I used to get given Vintage Life but never purchased it myself as it seemed really pricey and had lots of ads; I don't know if it's any different now xxx
ReplyDeleteThe card is spot on!! You deserve to be featured in all these articles! You've had sunshine today? Lucky you, it has been grey and murky here for days x
ReplyDeleteI'd rather look at old birds in vintage than young Kate Moss wanna bes any day.
ReplyDeleteI love that saying and follow it as well. Had to put on a trackie type outfit fir physio this morning but as soon as I got home it was on with 60's gear and then I felt as if my day had begun.
ReplyDeleteThe other mantra of yours I follow is "If you don't feel fabulous in it don't wear it".
Xxxxx
That card is seriously amazing, you lucky lady! x
ReplyDeletecongratulations dear vix. So glad the world is getting to see just how fabulous you are! xo

you give Kate Moss a run for the money anyday,
ReplyDeletecake for breakfast, sounds good to me!
Beautiful article!
Wow...get you! You're everywhere....and why not? Mad old birds (old???) in vintage are rather more interesting than Alexa Chung/Kate Moss lookylikeys. Suzanne's card is superb...you should frame it.
ReplyDeleteLoving your latest look but how DO you do the chazzas in those platforms? Respect girl!
You're famous, darling! Or should that be infamous?! Hurray for mad old birds in vintage, that's what I say. I love Suzanne's series of cards featuring bloggers, she caught your essence (and beauty) perfectly!
ReplyDeleteLook at you in print again too - congratulations, well done to Liza, and for goodness sake, someone in TV needs to snap you up and make a decent show about vintage! And how extremely refreshing to see some 70s style in amongst the 1940-50s landgirl and pin-up outfits. There's so much more to vintage clothing than that...
That jumpsuit is amazing, what a treat to be sent something so perfectly you!
Happy trading at Speke Hall - love you! xxx
Wow, that jumpsuit is super-duper fabulous on you! You look so glamorous and that card is really sensational-you to a tee!!! I would LOVE to see you in the telegraph! You're far more interesting than 20somethings!!!Xx

You're a celebrity! Wow! What a brilliant full page spread. I was telling my hair stylist all about you today and how you've decorated your house.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like the card. You inspire me so often, it made perfect sense.
You made a fab choice on the jumpsuit. How lucky to be offered something from an online vintage store! I'm off to check them out now.
I'll see you in a couple of weeks...on the other side of the blogger's meet-up : ) If I live to tell the story!
bisous
Suzanne

The queen indeed

Sign me up for the full range of Vix cards (and count me curious to see what message the 'sincere sympathy' item might display). You're not a fuzzy chick, dear Vix, but you are a chic 'old bird', indeed!
ReplyDeleteSix-inch platforms would be the end of my mobility, but you've inspired me to wear vintage even to the Tractor Supply Store to pick up cat litter by the 40-pound-bag. Here I've noticed other women in jeans noticing that a lady in a maxi skirt with lipstick and jewelry is offered assistance loading...there are crazy cat ladies and there are crazy cat ladies.
Looking gorgeous as always! That is a really nice card and how great it is to see yourself published in a magazine! The jumpsuit is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteThat card is fab and you look great. Brilliant mag spread!
ReplyDeleteAlways so amazing, Vix. You serve as a good reminder that there's no reason to wait to bust out the vintage. What good does it do someone sitting in the closet waiting for a few select outings?! I work from home so the struggle to bother can be real, but it's WAY more fun spending the day decked out and bejeweled!!
ReplyDeletePerfect card!! Excellent print!
ReplyDeleteAnd you inspired me to wear jewelry today - I KNOW!! - I rarely wear any.
Happy day to you, Vix xo
What a great card - you have great friends!

ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely card! It is absolutely fabulous, just like yourself...your friend did well to capture that.
ReplyDeleteI like your ' a day without dressing up is a day waisted' motto! Why not use clothes to make ourselves feel better when we have them on our disposal!
That jumpsuit looks fantastic on you....such an unique print and cut! The shoes are very much to my liking!
Congrats on being featured! and so great you had an opportunity to collaborate with a vintage boutique! they do seem to have fabulous items.

ReplyDeleteyou are a star!!!
ReplyDeleteand you look like one! that suit is gorgeous! but what i love the most is that you are not a twenty-something weekend hippy with not much more in the head then shopping "designer stuff"! it´s easy to be a beauty with 20 - but to be beautiful at any age one has to be beautiful on the inside!!! just like you!!!
suzanne made a pretty card!!!
xxxxxxx
You look fantastic!
ReplyDeleteFantastic outfit! I love that your friend made you your own Vix card, how fab! x

Fab outfits deserve to be seen! And I'd rather see a shot of you at Glasto than someone in yet more boring cutoffs.
ReplyDeleteGood stars above you're a goddess!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fab card by Suzanne, she's captured you so well. In years to come, I reckon we'll see people posting your sayings on facebook on memes (is that what they're called?) Great jumpsuit, oh my. Yes, you chose well. Must check out their site for other treasures. Fame again. It's getting to be a habit, seeing you in print, how very very exciting! Did you ever see anything after Glasto? I forgot to say, we were drinking Aldi's finest Hobgoblin beer tonight with our tea. Great thrifty minds think alike!! Xxxxx
