Mod For It!

If you've been with me for the five years I've been blogging you'll know I don't do reflective posts, my clothes may be vintage but my life's very much in the here and now. So, what could be a better way to celebrate my 1000th post than a party?

The venue: Wednesbury museum and art gallery, purpose built in 1891 with a exterior featuring busts of such luminaries as Christopher Wren and Isaac Newton. Not only home to fine art, Boer War memorabilia and interesting artefacts but also boasting the most amazing collection of Ruskin Pottery, which I suspect I bang on about so much that if the place ever got done over I'd be number one suspect.

Meet the Crew: Jordi & Barrington, demons on the decks.

The wheels: Gorgeous scooters galore plus our dear pal Tony's beauty of a vintage Jag.

Lets get this party started.

Next to Steve in the archway there's Cliff, our stylist, taking time out between snapping the cool party goers. Jon's being the host with the most.

Retro board games kept everyone happy. Did I mention the museum has an entire room packed with vintage toys and games?

The free party nibbles and old fashioned fizzy drinks on offer went down a storm.

The fun spilled out on to the street.

Our friends turned out in force,

This gorgeous girl is normally a 1940s enthusiast but the lads thought the Kinky Melon makeover suited her even more.

Here's Deb, the party planner looking gorgeous in pink polka dots. Dresses, beehive wig, plastic beads and gold shoes from our rails.

Looking cute in Kinky Melon's 1960s Priscilla-style wedding dress and silk velvet evening gown.

More Kinky gear- psychedelic pants suit, polka dots and a poncho modelled perfectly on Boomerang's dinky retro suite.

With over 700 visitors from far and wide (including Jane & her family from Ireland) I think we can call Mod Mania a massive success.

If you missed out, don't despair. There's another Black Country Echoes event, a Retro Xmas Fair, (featuring Kinky and lots of friends) happening on 13th December at Walsall's amazing Leather Museum.

See you soon!

  15. What a blast! And it looks like you found the perfect spot for the party.

    Congrats on your five years!

Your buddy with the fab wheels reminds me a bit of Andy Warhol.

You need a photo of yourself laying on top of the hood of that car in your pink gown. That would be frame-worthy.

  26. Congratulations on your 1,000th post! That's quite an achievement considering the amount of time, effort and content you put into each of your posts. with each of those posts. The photographs and window into your world of vintage curating, cooking, traveling, tailoring, gardening, vintage fairs, your home, the vintage fairs and world of Kinky Mellon's Retro Boutique are all amazing!
I love the outfits you and Jon were wearing at the party. Your satiny pink dress is gorgeous and Jon's outfit looked amazing as well. I love the colour combination of the red dress shirt, gold tie, blue blazer and socks and striped navy blue trousers - very dapper and spiffy! Your hair looked beautiful. The vintage themed party looks like it was a thoroughly enjoyable celebration.

Wednesbury museum is a beautiful building, and the Mod decor from the Boomerang gang is glorious. Those green curtains make a fabulous backdrop, don't they? And don't you and Jon look great? Gorgeous pink frock, and Jon is always a dapper dude! Everyone looks amazing all Kinky-ed up, but I think cool Tony and his car stole the show!
Sounds like a great day was had by all, I just love community events like this that take an alternative theme and do something a bit different - no bunting, is that even allowed?!

  53. I'm so happy to get to virtually visit with you at this event! Everyone looks fabulous, and I'm tickled to see you looking as beautiful as usual.
Quite right ... leave the ruminative posts to those of us who are prone to navel-gazing. A good reminder that style isn't a static, stay at home thing, and that it's seen at it's best out and about in context. I'm always delighted by your big visual posts and that you show me things I'll never get to see otherwise!
Nobody does the era so properly as you do. You don't mind if I say you're proper, do you?
