Eat, Sleep, Rave, Repeat......

Where does the time go? One minute its mid-week and next thing you know its Monday. A weekend of back-to-back vintage fairs along with five and a half hours in A&E after my poor Dad got bashed on the head with a Thermos flask by a fellow resident in the dementia unit (at least it was a retro weapon).

There was a bit of time for leisure. Here's me and the Lizs ready for action on Friday night.

Kitted out Kinky Melon style: Adrian (in a 1970s chores jacket) and Sean (in a vintage Hardy Amies blazer)
Adrian (aka Dr Teeth), his long-time mate, Sean, along with Q on the bongos, played to a packed house at the Newhampton Arts Centre in Wolverhampton.

Back in the day. Adrian's on the far left, Sean's behind him.

Give them a listen HERE

It seems strange not to see a band without the obligatory skinful of ale but we had to be up bright-eyed and bushy tailed for work. Here's us at Stockport yesterday. My floaty 1970s maxi came from a fellow seller at Saturday's fair in Stourbridge. As soon as I got home on Saturday evening it was chucked in the washer and, being 100% synthetic, was ready to wear by 5.30am the following day.

1970s Susan Barry maxi skirt (Darling Curtise), fringed bodysuit & beaded velvet choker (both charity shopped), Showgirl's waistcoat (Skye who used to blog), Vintage Pakistani tote (Jumble sale), 1970s filigree coin pendant (the gorgeous Em)

Kinky is pretty much fully booked with fairs from now until mid-December and, after a phenomenal day of sales at Stockport, the rails are starting to look a bit empty. We're already on the hunt for fresh stock, combining a visit to Dad's nursing home with a scout around the chazzas first thing this morning. We've only got a couple of days free as we're off camping and selling at the V Dubs in the Valley this weekend (so please don't get wishing for Autumn just yet).

See you soon!

  1. Your poor dad, a thermos flask is nothing if not original as a weapon of choice.

Looks like fine weather for the V Dubs, here's hoping it's right!

  2. Glad to be able to see.this first thing thus morning :). Started a entry on my blog last night about the weather in Savannah, Ga. My city tends to be a looney when it comes to the seasons. It wants to bring the heat early Spring (April/May) and doesn't want to let go till mid-October (maybe).

  3. Dear V: Hope you dear dad is feeling better today.

I took a listen and I like what I heard- you know me, I love musicians! ;)

Enjoy your week and I hope your weather isn't as chilly as it is here (60 degrees F). x

  8. Hello Vix,

Well, who would have thought that a thermos flask (vintage, of course) could be a weapon of skull destruction or that a nursing home could be a place of such violence. Oh dear. Such a sad and sorry state of affairs, it must be a strain visiting, never knowing what to expect when you arrive.

Still, you are nothing if not resourceful and lesser people would have gone under long before now. It is good that you are so busy with Kinky Melon but enormously hard work. We are in awe of your ability to keep smiling and looking so wonderfully good through it all.

  9. The floaty is exquisite, Vix. What a wonderful working wardrobe you enjoy!

I do empathize with your concerns as an adult child of a parent in nursing care. "Those calls" never come on a nothing-planned weekend.

Once upon a time/an emergency gallop to hospital I arrived at my mother's bedside after a very full day in a television studio. Tiny mum peered at me over sheets tucked up to her nose and frowned. "You appear bedraggled," she grumbled. "Go do something about your hair. And lipstick." I cherish the memory.

  11. Oh your poor old dad, the whole sorry incident sounds like some bonkers version of Cluedo - fellow patient, in the nursing home, with a Thermos. Hope he's doing OK and recovering.
Love that Her Come The Girls photo of you and the Lizes, ready to rock! You're such a friend to the stars, Vix, loving the old pic of the band.
And wow, the floaty maxi is a dream of a frock, I love it! Good to know that while the back-to-back fairs may have dented your stock, your enthusiasm and your work ethic are hardy enough to take it. So pleased the skirt is already in use, it looks fabulous on you. And that fringed body is brilliant - is that why Stephen Squirrel is rolling around in front of you? Is he waiting to chase that fringing? As always your Pakistani tote bag makes me drool a little bit... Love you! xxxxxx

  13. Poor Dad...five and a half hours in A&E is no joke although your comment about the thermos flask did make me smile. I remember when my nan was in a similar place, there were often punch ups. Loving the new floaty frock and the skirt. You and the Liz's look a picture.
I for one am not wishing on autumn...bastard spiders!

Speaking or wear(ing)[see what I did there?] your new maxi is divine. I also love Liz's orange dress.

  21. oh my, you just can make those things up, head bashing with a thermos in the dementia unit. Hoping the head basher was a weak old thing and no great harm was done. Nevertheless, it's no treat to get surprises like that require your going from hospital to nursing home with your loved ones. Meanwhile you look smashing as always, seems nothing can get you off track. Congrats on selling so well and being booked til the end of the year already. woo-hoo.

You my dear look hotter than any señorita in your collection I adore this outfit and the jacket with the ring is yummy! You rocking your sexy tummy and the Liz's looking lush, and my god GO ADRIAN!!! This rules!

Here's to bare rails that need replenishing and to my two favorite vintage sellers in the entire world.

  26. Oh poor dad! Did the incident upset him? I suppose it's good it wasn't a heavier object but it probably still left a mark.

You are so busy but it all sounds like fun and your friends are so cool and groovy. You and the Lizes are so gorgeous. The fringed outfit/floral maxi is to die for but the floaty green dress is rather dreamy too! It looks like something for wearing while lying on a velvet divan and eating bon bons. It needs fluffy mule slippers too.

Go forth and get more stock and sell up a storm! Hooray for Kinky's success.
    xoxo

  29. O, fark, how bloody brutal are old folk's homes?! Indeed, a thermos being a retro weapon takes the sting out a little bit! Poor bugger.
But that skirt! That skirt is just gorgeous! Nice one, Curtise! Loving the showgirl waistcoat too, AND the fringing! WOOF!
Kerist, what a wild and exciting weekend! I think I would have collapsed in a heap! Just can't keep up like I used to. (What am I saying?! I've NEVER been able to keep up!)
Gird yer loins for the upcoming weekend, baby!

  46. Hope your poor old dad is OK? Yep, it all happens on a dementia ward. Were they good with him at A&E? I had to take my mum recently and it was harrowing. I love the picture of you and the Lizs with the GIRLS sign. Is that at your old school? Blimey KM is BUSY. You must have had a phenomenal year. You seem to have worked every weekend! Must be good for you because you always look so lovely and happy. Another Q! Ha, that's funny. Xxxxxxxxxx

  49. 'Inspirational' tends to be a bit of an overused word these days - but it's the only really appropriate one for the life that you and Jon have built and worked at. I love the combination of both your work and your play ethic.
So sorry to hear about your dad. I do admire the cheerful way you approach the practical (and grim) stuff of being in the role of carer.
