These vintage feather filled quilts can fetch a small fortune on eBay and although undeniably pretty they do crop up regularly when I'm out charity shopping. I found this one for £2.99 in the British Heart Foundation yesterday, making a total of three in my collection.
I machine-washed it on a regular 30 degree cycle with a tablespoonful of Wilko's soda crystals (other varieties are available!) and dried it in the tumble drier.
Ready for the cats to deposit their fur on, no doubt!
I'm having a lovely time of it between vintage fairs, my hair is freshly dyed, Kinky Melon has some spectacular new stock, the house is getting a rare tidy up, the mending pile is no more and everything that can be patchworked has been.
So what have I been doing today?
Sorting out my vanity cases.
Dusting my Spanish doll collection.
Tidying my shoe rack.
Pondering on where to hang this sweet vintage souvenir print I bought from a car boot sale for the other day.
Looking forward to wearing a gorgeous Levis jacket my old school friend Kate bought in 1981 and passed on to me today.
Playing a CD I bought Jon for his birthday.
Untangling my necklaces.
Contemplating which shade of Barry M to paint my nails.
Remembering the 1950s fake fur stole I bought for a jumble sale weeks ago and promptly forgot all about.
Swapping three dresses in my wardrobe so I can keep my latest 1970s beach dress.
Wishing it wasn't so bastard cold that I'm seriously considering wearing fake fur to the pub tonight even though its August.

Oh dear me, I am totally lusting after your bed!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a productive day you've had looking so glam! Love that shoe rack - the contents are so bright!
ReplyDeleteIt is so cold! What a find in the charity shop, love eiderdowns and nice to know how to deal with them. Those Wilko washing crystals work like a charm and thank you for that.
ReplyDeleteI love that room, LOVE THAT ROOM! Those quilted beds are pretty sweet, were they for babies because of their size? I love how bright all your stash of everything looks! Your shoes are a work of art and I love your Spanish shelf! That Levi jacket is pretty sweet, let's see how long it lasts before you embellish it!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to chat with you today!
LOVEYOU!XXXXXXXOOOOOO
thanks for the tour. It's always fun to see your home. Did you know that gray walls with white trim and chrome yellow are the new hot colors? Turns my stomach just typing that. There might be some patch work in my future
ReplyDeleteI want to snuggle up on your bed!
ReplyDeleteHi I love the chair in your bedroom x it's similar to the chair I gave seen in laura ashley priced at £950. I'm looking for a retro/ vintage one myself x
ReplyDeleteYou've been busy! It's a fine feeling to use your time productively and have a good sort out. t least, I imagine it is... I'm not very good at it myself. It's always a delight to see into your home, your bedroom is gorgeous, and that eiderdown was a steal at £2.99, they go for silly money at fairs. They remind me so much of being little, before we had duvets.
ReplyDeleteYour collections of vanity cases and Spanish senoritas, shoes/boots and necklaces, nail varnish and that fabulous wardrobe full of loveliness - all shipshape! Love the print and the denim jacket, and yes, a bit of fur is needed at the moment, it's chilly when the sun goes in.
You've earned your night at the pub - enjoy!xxxxx
I adore your new bed-cover, and the whole room is so cozy and inviting. And now I feel like I should do some tidying, but first, a mid-day rest! xoxo
ReplyDeleteThere must be something in the air, I too have untangled and sorted my necklaces and tidied my shoes!
ReplyDeleteWhat is going on with our weather??
you find the best stuff and your bedroom is just to die for, no one does color better than you! Its cold here as well, maybe we both are in for a warm spell, surely summer is not gone yet!
ReplyDeleteI love your bedroom and the storage for your necklaces is divine! It's damn cold here, too and >I had to wear a jacket today :(
ReplyDeleteYour bedroom is such a lovely room, looks so cosy and inviting. I had a feather quilt like that when I was a child, they are fabulous things.
ReplyDeleteVery cozy place. I would love a feather quilt but they are a rarity here on the used market.
ReplyDeleteAnother day in the life of Vix. I always love these types of posts.
ReplyDeleteLove your bedroom, and those boots! I'm so jealous! :)
ReplyDeleteYour bedroom looks very sweet. I'm curious about the painting over your bed. It's gorgeous and I'm intrigued.
ReplyDeleteOh Vix I don't know about you but this weather is a pain in the bum, you look fab in your dress, and as i have commented before i'm in love with your bedroom.
ReplyDeleteA fab post and i have another Spanish lady to add to my collection of two (lol) best wishes x.
I am looking forward to catching up. I love the new painting - what fabulous colours.
ReplyDeleteDon't tell me it's cold there, I am coming back to the UK on Friday!!! Rats, I've been spoilt over here!!!
ReplyDeleteLove your bed spread, we used to have one like that at camp that was used as a prop in all the operas!!
your bedroom looks most inviting!! X
Sounds like a fine way to spend the day. I was so cold last night that I've put the winter duvet back on my bed today! Your room looks warm and inviting. x
ReplyDeleteOh your day sounds so relaxed and easy. I've only just returned from a massive overdose of Chessington World of Adventures. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteYour home always looks gorgeous and I'm in love with your eiderdown! What a great price! xxx
Just a quick question please Vix - what would you use/do to get rid of charity shop musty smell ? Bought a jacket and despite washing and line drying it still has the smell ? Any ideas ? Thanks
ReplyDeleteI know, the Fall weather is here already! Your room is so pretty and cozy. It's nice to have some down time to potter around the house, isn't it? Xox
ReplyDeleteGoodness, I would never ever have remembered had you not posted a pic of it, but my grandma had the same painting hanging in her Putney flat around forty years ago. What a blast from the past! Made me feel all weird!
ReplyDeleteSorry...I should perhaps have said I meant the one you just bought, with the sunny scene!
DeleteYour world, most certainly, is wonderful! XOXO
ReplyDeleteI love the posts that give us a sneaky little look into your place ... everything is so gorgeous and colourful and cosy ... I just want to settle in for a while :0)
ReplyDeletexx
I am always amazed that you keep it all so orderly!
ReplyDeleteA day in the life of Vix! A gorgeous slice of life! You are part of the reason that I am downsizing hats when I purchase a new chapeau. It makes me think seriously about adding, when I am subtracting!
ReplyDeleteI adore your bed and everything about our home.
Thanks for the glimpse into your day to day life. Storage seems to be the never ending problem. You're a lucky gal to have a wardrobe all to yourself. I share one about that same size with Hubby. I finally gave up and installed a hanging rail in an alcove in the hall for overflow. But now I have to walk to the far end of the hall to get dressed! Boy that denim jacket brings back memories. They really were part of the uniform in the 80s, weren't they?
ReplyDeleteI love your bedroom! Its colorful, tidy, cozy and roomy. I really look forward to your bedroom posts, it gives me ideas. Pretty quilt too. :-)
ReplyDeleteI love reading your blog you bring colour and fun to life just what's needed.
ReplyDeleteBarbara
dear lady, you Rock!!, and love to see how you tidy up your shoes or necklaces, that's Real Life and love it!, love your spanish dolls collection, it's so kitschylicious!!
ReplyDeleteand I'm also wishing it was not so cold I'm wearing maryjanes and a cardigan!! wtf!! it's August and it's Spain!!!!
besos & calor
That bed looks so welcoming that I could almost picture myself snuggling into that pretty quilt! ^_^
ReplyDeleteI know just what you mean about it being cold and being only August I saw brown leaves on the ground in the park this morning and it was so crisp and chilly I was like nooooo don't make me wear a coat yet. I am praying we get an Indian summer in September :-) Love your bedroom it looks beautiful so much pretty colour you had a bargain with your duvet. You have had a great productive day bet it feels fab to be on top of things. Is that Oranage 70's stacker you have your nail polish in the one I gave you years ago? nice to think it is and its still being used :-) have a lovely day, dee xxx
ReplyDeleteEvery room in your house is so unique and beautiful. And cozy. Love your collection of vanity cases.
ReplyDeleteHow odd to be thinking about fur in August! (Of course, cat fur is year round...) But if one is feeling the chill, what better wrap than a 50s faux fur in white?
ReplyDeleteAny room for the newly acquired sidewalk cafe print near the coffee maker? I've begun hanging small pictures under the kitchen cabinets on the last bit of wall space remaining. Looks odd, but then so are most of the prints. Color equals caffeine!
Love the bedroom especially that fabulous bed!
ReplyDeleteYou have been busy aren't you? It's nice to go back to the ordinary tasks of life isn't when not obliged to do so?
I have been going bonkers about what to bring with me to Europe, - First long trip for me in a while but i will managed! This has been my main task these days
I love the Barbie case! You find the best stuff i kid you not!
The weather have been cold at times here too, what a drag hey to think about wearing faux fur in August?
Take care Vix
I will be posting pics of the wedding and trip on Instagram
Big hugs
Arianexx
Your bedroom is so pretty, and you have your stuff organized so nicely. I am green with envy!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it lovely to have time to putter, and do things like dust and re-organize. When I actually have time and am in the mindset to do it, I really enjoy it.
What a fabulous find! We've been getting into Welsh Wool blankets lately :)
ReplyDeleteShop Vintage Clothing
I love seeing photos of your home, you have such incredible style! I am quite obsessed by hunting out these eiderdowns whilst out at car boots and charity shops, all of the ones I have found have sold for £100 upwards so I pounce whenever I see one! What a pretty example you have here xx
ReplyDeletevanity case envy!
ReplyDelete... aaaaand what a fun post!
i hope we don't have to think about wearing fur the upcoming weeks ... we desearve a warm late summer and fall!
great use of your free weekend!
ReplyDeleteyour home looks fantastic! and all your wonderful indian jewelry! aahh!
love!
I've been lusting after one of those eiderdowns for years, we had one when I was little...where is it now? The last one I saw was thirty quid and had a fag burn in it. I fear I will never see one for £2.99, but it's good to know that if I do I could shove it in the washer. (always imagined it would require dry cleaning) It's so satisfying having a bit of a clear out and tidy up, so I've heard...ha!

The dress you're wearing in all these photos and in the GIF is beautiful. I love that colonial style bed, your Spanish doll collection, all those necklaces and, of course, all the colourful frocks and patchwork creations. You're doing a lovely job decorating, neatening, cleaning and organising your home and curated treasures. It all looks colorful, neat and pretty.

ReplyDeleteI love the "everything that can be patchworked has been!"
ReplyDeleteI picture little brown or beige furniture cowering behind the curtains with their little eyes poking out, fearfully dreading your step, as you advance with the da, da, dah...glue gun!
How lovely to get your house in order. I'm looking at your necklace storage. I have my earrings in a frame with fly wire across to hook into. I was going to use hooks on a wooden coat hanger for the necklaces, but maybe another frame would be better...hmmm.
Keep up the good work! XO JJ
I love your room and the -amazing-dress you're wearing in this post. Would wear tye hell out of that!
ReplyDeleteI have been collecting eiderdowns for many years, they are essential in my house over the winter months. Well done, a great find
ReplyDeleteAh, it seems so stylish and cosy at your place. Love those vintage cases and the Gif! x
ReplyDelete/Madison
I didn't realise the eiderdowns went for so much! They do remind me of sleeping over at my Grandma's.
ReplyDeleteHow can you forget about a fab stole like that? I would've worn it to the pub if it was scorching!
I'm getting a bit too excited for wearing fur layers.
ReplyDeleteI also used to have that blue Spanish doll in the middle of the collection.
Where's the summer gone, Vix? I'm not happy about this weather. See, you're so clever. I had one of those, but not being able to clean it put me off, so i gave it away. You live and learn. Fancy you cracking gifs too. More little films to come? Isn't it wonderful to have some home time? I love nesting and I love seeing round your gaff. I have that Spanish print on a little bed/picnic table, Q hates it, but I love it. Xxxxxxx
ReplyDeleteIt's chilly isn't it? Have been toying with taking my winter coat out! Fun to see you in domestic mode - I'm in love with your boudoir with it's glam chandelier and french style bed! And LOVE your Spanish doll collection!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find and such a bargain too. I'm glad I'm not the only one who's feeling the cold right now - I was tempted to wear a winter jacket when I went out the other night! x
ReplyDeletemmmm look at all that yummy jewelry!! I wanna come over and play!
ReplyDeleteahh your bedroom is so cosy and fun! and for someone who i always imagine is so well dressed, you have a very modestly sized wardrobe. Good on you! i love your 1 in 1 out rule, but im really terrible at doing that myself...
ReplyDeleteI've never seen a feather quilt with a printed cover ... how lovely! All we have here with feathers are plain beige duvets that we have to cover with duvet covers.
ReplyDeleteIt's been so darn cold here too this week. People have been calling the month 'Augtober'.
I love having a sneaky peak at your room - my favourite is your shoe collection!
