In The Bedroom

These vintage feather filled quilts can fetch a small fortune on eBay and although undeniably pretty they do crop up regularly when I'm out charity shopping. I found this one for £2.99 in the British Heart Foundation yesterday, making a total of three in my collection.

I machine-washed it on a regular 30 degree cycle with a tablespoonful of Wilko's soda crystals (other varieties are available!) and dried it in the tumble drier.

me on Make A Gif

Ready for the cats to deposit their fur on, no doubt!

I'm having a lovely time of it between vintage fairs, my hair is freshly dyed, Kinky Melon has some spectacular new stock, the house is getting a rare tidy up, the mending pile is no more and everything that can be patchworked has been.

So what have I been doing today?

Sorting out my vanity cases.

Dusting my Spanish doll collection.

Tidying my shoe rack.

Pondering on where to hang this sweet vintage souvenir print I bought from a car boot sale for the other day.

Looking forward to wearing a gorgeous Levis jacket my old school friend Kate bought in 1981 and passed on to me today.

Playing a CD I bought Jon for his birthday.

Untangling my necklaces.

Contemplating which shade of Barry M to paint my nails.

Remembering the 1950s fake fur stole I bought for a jumble sale weeks ago and promptly forgot all about.

Swapping three dresses in my wardrobe so I can keep my latest 1970s beach dress.

Wishing it wasn't so bastard cold that I'm seriously considering wearing fake fur to the pub tonight even though its August.

Colonial style bed (eBay, 2005), Edwardian Indian rug (eBay, 2004), Bentwood chair and velvet cushion (jumble sale finds), Bohemian glass chandelier (40th Birthday present, 2006), "Caroline" print (car boot sale), wallpaper (Laura Ashley, Kimono), all patchwork made by me
See you soon!

  5. I love that room, LOVE THAT ROOM! Those quilted beds are pretty sweet, were they for babies because of their size? I love how bright all your stash of everything looks! Your shoes are a work of art and I love your Spanish shelf! That Levi jacket is pretty sweet, let's see how long it lasts before you embellish it!

  6. thanks for the tour. It's always fun to see your home. Did you know that gray walls with white trim and chrome yellow are the new hot colors? Turns my stomach just typing that. There might be some patch work in my future

  9. You've been busy! It's a fine feeling to use your time productively and have a good sort out. t least, I imagine it is... I'm not very good at it myself. It's always a delight to see into your home, your bedroom is gorgeous, and that eiderdown was a steal at £2.99, they go for silly money at fairs. They remind me so much of being little, before we had duvets.
Your collections of vanity cases and Spanish senoritas, shoes/boots and necklaces, nail varnish and that fabulous wardrobe full of loveliness - all shipshape! Love the print and the denim jacket, and yes, a bit of fur is needed at the moment, it's chilly when the sun goes in.
You've earned your night at the pub - enjoy!xxxxx

  24. Just a quick question please Vix - what would you use/do to get rid of charity shop musty smell ? Bought a jacket and despite washing and line drying it still has the smell ? Any ideas ? Thanks

  30. A day in the life of Vix! A gorgeous slice of life! You are part of the reason that I am downsizing hats when I purchase a new chapeau. It makes me think seriously about adding, when I am subtracting!

I adore your bed and everything about our home.

  31. Thanks for the glimpse into your day to day life. Storage seems to be the never ending problem. You're a lucky gal to have a wardrobe all to yourself. I share one about that same size with Hubby. I finally gave up and installed a hanging rail in an alcove in the hall for overflow. But now I have to walk to the far end of the hall to get dressed! Boy that denim jacket brings back memories. They really were part of the uniform in the 80s, weren't they?

  32. I love your bedroom! Its colorful, tidy, cozy and roomy. I really look forward to your bedroom posts, it gives me ideas. Pretty quilt too. :-)

  36. I know just what you mean about it being cold and being only August I saw brown leaves on the ground in the park this morning and it was so crisp and chilly I was like nooooo don't make me wear a coat yet. I am praying we get an Indian summer in September :-) Love your bedroom it looks beautiful so much pretty colour you had a bargain with your duvet. You have had a great productive day bet it feels fab to be on top of things. Is that Oranage 70's stacker you have your nail polish in the one I gave you years ago? nice to think it is and its still being used :-) have a lovely day, dee xxx

  37. Every room in your house is so unique and beautiful. And cozy. Love your collection of vanity cases.

  38. How odd to be thinking about fur in August! (Of course, cat fur is year round...) But if one is feeling the chill, what better wrap than a 50s faux fur in white?

Any room for the newly acquired sidewalk cafe print near the coffee maker? I've begun hanging small pictures under the kitchen cabinets on the last bit of wall space remaining. Looks odd, but then so are most of the prints. Color equals caffeine!

  39. Love the bedroom especially that fabulous bed!
You have been busy aren't you? It's nice to go back to the ordinary tasks of life isn't when not obliged to do so?
I have been going bonkers about what to bring with me to Europe, - First long trip for me in a while but i will managed! This has been my main task these days
I love the Barbie case! You find the best stuff i kid you not!

The weather have been cold at times here too, what a drag hey to think about wearing faux fur in August?

    Take care Vix
I will be posting pics of the wedding and trip on Instagram

  40. Your bedroom is so pretty, and you have your stuff organized so nicely. I am green with envy!

Isn't it lovely to have time to putter, and do things like dust and re-organize. When I actually have time and am in the mindset to do it, I really enjoy it.

  45. I've been lusting after one of those eiderdowns for years, we had one when I was little...where is it now? The last one I saw was thirty quid and had a fag burn in it. I fear I will never see one for £2.99, but it's good to know that if I do I could shove it in the washer. (always imagined it would require dry cleaning) It's so satisfying having a bit of a clear out and tidy up, so I've heard...ha!

  46. The dress you're wearing in all these photos and in the GIF is beautiful. I love that colonial style bed, your Spanish doll collection, all those necklaces and, of course, all the colourful frocks and patchwork creations. You're doing a lovely job decorating, neatening, cleaning and organising your home and curated treasures. It all looks colorful, neat and pretty.

  49. I love the "everything that can be patchworked has been!"
I picture little brown or beige furniture cowering behind the curtains with their little eyes poking out, fearfully dreading your step, as you advance with the da, da, dah...glue gun!
How lovely to get your house in order. I'm looking at your necklace storage. I have my earrings in a frame with fly wire across to hook into. I was going to use hooks on a wooden coat hanger for the necklaces, but maybe another frame would be better...hmmm.
Keep up the good work! XO JJ

  53. I didn't realise the eiderdowns went for so much! They do remind me of sleeping over at my Grandma's.

How can you forget about a fab stole like that? I would've worn it to the pub if it was scorching!

  54. I'm getting a bit too excited for wearing fur layers.
I also used to have that blue Spanish doll in the middle of the collection.

  55. Where's the summer gone, Vix? I'm not happy about this weather. See, you're so clever. I had one of those, but not being able to clean it put me off, so i gave it away. You live and learn. Fancy you cracking gifs too. More little films to come? Isn't it wonderful to have some home time? I love nesting and I love seeing round your gaff. I have that Spanish print on a little bed/picnic table, Q hates it, but I love it. Xxxxxxx

  60. I've never seen a feather quilt with a printed cover ... how lovely! All we have here with feathers are plain beige duvets that we have to cover with duvet covers.

It's been so darn cold here too this week. People have been calling the month 'Augtober'.
