Another weekend, another festival!
This time we took Kinky off to Shrewsbury to Deva Dubs, a celebration of all things VW.
The weekend started off gloriously - hot sunshine and a chance to catch up with some of the traders we'd met previously on the festival circuit.
Wearing: Vintage Gabicci shorts, tweed flat cap & 1960s "Festival" Hessian pumps (all from charity shops), Day of The Dead tee shirt (Flea market, Goa) |
Our stall was pitched in record time which was just as well, we had a handful of revellers hovering around excitedly, anxiously waiting to rummage through our rails.
Gilbert's top was popped and the bed made up ready to collapse into once the days' work was done.
1970s nylon beach dress (Bought on our blogger day out to Nottingham), Sassy Vamps floral head piece (the gorgeous Desiree), Vintage pink sunglasses and pendant (both charity shopped) |
So without further ado we cracked open the pear cider and opened for business.
A perfect day for a festival.
Kinky by night - solar powered!
A perfect day for a festival.
Kinky by night - solar powered!
By 11pm it was time to dig out the trusty fake fur jacket and switch to mugs of tea.
We'd been warned of extreme weather all week and right on cue the early hours of Saturday brought torrential rain and thunderstorms.
Wearing: 1960s psychedelic catsuit (99p, eBay, 2012), Mongolian lamb scarf & 1970s old skool Dunlop wellies (both from jumble sales) |
Isn't that why god invented wellies?
Wearing: Vintage skinny leg pants (courtesy of the sweetest Squirrels), Diesel waistcoat, Tootal scarf, band tee shirt (all charity shopped/car booted) |
Jon's tarpaulin awning kept the stock (and us) dry.
The showers continued on and off for most of the day but if us Brits let a bit of rain interfere with our fun we'd never do anything.
From our pitch we had a bird's eye view of the motors.
And a bird gave us the eye, too.
1950s Levi's Panatella shorts (Flea market, Goa), Tee shirt (Charity shop), Vintage cord trilby (donation from a mate) |
This morning heralded a welcome return to the sunshine.
How cool are these motors?
Just when we were packing up I had a surprise visit from the lovely Rosemary who lives in Shrewsbury. (I'd abandoned my wellies, bare feet in the mud feel so good!)
Wearing: 1970s Richard Shops maxi (Charity shop) |
Phew! A blog heavy on images and short on words I'm afraid but I wanted to post before Deva Dubs was yesterday's news.
I'm having an early night once I've scrubbed the mud off.....catch up with you soon!
Darling Vix, am I first?x
ReplyDeleteYes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteand second and third?????
ReplyDeleteWhat a great time it sounds! So glad that you had a good time despite the lovely rain (I was camping and woke up to that rain!) - hope you got lots of good business! I really want to see you in action! One day....
Looks fun and those cards are super.
That white dress you are wearing is absolutely beautiful!x
Great times !

Those festivals look great, no wonder you do the circuit! You certainly have a good set up and collapsing into Gilbert at the end of a day must be bliss. Love the old station wagon with the surfboard on the roof.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos Vix, good to set up and finish in dry weather. Looks like a great time was had xx
ReplyDeleteFrom those ominous clouds to muddy bare feet - looks like quite a romp!
ReplyDeleteWasn't that rain dreadful? We had it here about 10am, I was worried the JS would be cancelled but luckily it was brief. Despite the rain it seems like you had a fab weekend Vix, you look so happy in all these pics. Loving those old motors. xxx
ReplyDeleteI have never seen anyone stand in a rain soaked field surrounded by puddles looking so glamorous!
ReplyDeleteYou made it through the rain, darling! As always, you and Jon have good humour and good planning to see you through the adverse weather conditions, not to mention good wellies! And your pitch looks as fab as ever.
ReplyDeleteIt's true, you just have to prepare for every eventuality and crack on, or you'd never do anything, but gawd, it did rain heavily. Still, that obviously didn't spoil the festival, the shopping, the fun, or the glamour - you are rocking the maxis and the catsuit, and look perfectly happy and fabulous!
Love all the pics, you're a bloody marvel to come home and get straight on with a blog post, you put me to shame...
Now scrub off that mud and get some rum down you! xxxx
You're quite right, we can't let rain stop play.
ReplyDeleteMy Romanian colleague asked me only last week "What is it with English people and those old vans?" Old vans! Old vans!!! I proceeded to explain why we love VWs, I think she now understands a bit better. x
I love your flower crown and that pink dress!!
ReplyDeleteI think I would waiver between wellies and bare feet too, I love squelching in bare feet!
ReplyDeleteI'm crazy for your pendant, first pic!
ReplyDeleteWhat a load of fun fun FUN! Bugger about he rain, but the trouper you are doesn't let that get in the way of maximum glamour! HUZZAH!
Gilbert is such a cozy set up, your site just looks so fecking rockin'!!!
Mud off, now, lady, and rum down yer gob!!
Love Helga xxxXXXxxx
Hi Vix,
ReplyDeleteYou are so very lovely and Gilbert is such a looker, with his pop top and all.
Loves,
Willow
Your stall looks great Vix. Glad to see that the rain didn't stop people having fun! x
ReplyDeleteBrill x
ReplyDeleteLook at you two, so fabulous no matter the weather. Gilbert looks up to the task, and he must be a comfort to have at day's end. xox
ReplyDeleteIt looks like so much fun and Gilbert looks so cosy! I am quite put out that there aren't enough festivals where I live. We do have plenty of weather just like yours though. God screwed up a lot of things but he did a good job inventing wellies. Love those ducks and the vintage cars!
ReplyDeletexoxoxo
Loving it~ didn't want it to stop ` felt like I was right there with you in my bare feet and flowered frock checking out all the wonderful sights !
ReplyDeletewhat a lovely way to spend a weekend. So far this summer I've been able to eat lunch outside everyday (picnic!!!). The rain's been holding off until nighttime and getting out of the shop for an hour is a dream. Three more weeks and two more shows
ReplyDeleteDon't be shy, she says, so I will boldly inquire: Dear Goddess of Glamor, How does one manage to use the porta loo in a pantsuit?
ReplyDeleteThe wellies look an excellent coping strategy, but where does one park the lambswool scarf?
Your set up looks amazing!!!! I want to dig through all those dresses!!!
ReplyDeleteYou definitely pulled me in with an Apollo 440 song title, but really nailed it by posting a picture of your man in a Clash t-shirt.
ReplyDeleteYou are too cool....
It looks like a blast! You and Jon are so resourceful, love it! You look so cute in all the pics. Gilbert is awesome too, those are quite collectible. ;-)
ReplyDeleteYour festival exploits look like so much fun! I have serious festival envy looking at your pics - keep them coming! XXX
ReplyDeleteHad a ball visiting Britain with you, including British weather! You really have this pitching thing down. Thanks for the closeups of the cars. You two show how vintage should be done. My favourite is catsuit and wellies in a puddle. I think that summarises the whole weekend...glamour, resourcefulness and British spirit!
ReplyDeleteI love when the sun shines down on Vix and Jon and you can bring out your summer dresses. Yay! This looks like so much fun. So funny the folks selling slush in the rain. Really? You have to pay for that?
ReplyDeleteLooks fab as usual - whats a bit of rain to us hardy Brits ;)
ReplyDeleteStill in love with Gilbert - plans are afoot to perhaps own a Gilbert of our own sometime - if not this summer then next :) :)
I love to see you smiling from ear-to-ear in every pic of you here ... you have truly found your vocation for now Vix, a "job" that makes you happy to be alive! What a wonderful glorious sunny start to the festival, then the clouds are magnificently heavy with the sure promise of a deluge. I'm not surprise people were gagging to get their hands on your gear while you were setting up, what an amazing collection to choose from! xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteWelcome back, Vix! Bloglandia is a happier place with you. :) The photo of you in the puddle is my favorite!! You look gorgeous even in the extreme weather conditions. That is a TRUE vintage personality. I hope you'll tell us about the results soon. :) Hugs! xxxxx

ReplyDeleteThis looks like so much fun! If I were at this festival, I definitely would have overstayed my welcome at your site, sifting through all of your goodies. I also love that you're clearly a glamper. Throwing on a fur when the sun went down? Perfection!

Our best friends growing up had a VW bus. We'd pile both families in there (4 adults and 4 kids) and go all kinds of fun places. I still feel happy whenever I hear that characteristic engine sound.
ReplyDeleteYour outfits are glorious as usual!
Perfect!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you have every weather event covered there, thank goodness! It also looks like a great weekend out. Your outfits are beautiful as ever too. That Richard Shops maxi is a beaut (well, they did say Richard Shops was filled with all the pretty things!) Your stock looks fab too, how do you part with it?? xx
ReplyDeleteYour pitch looks so fun and inviting, made moreso by your cool selves within! Sounds like it was a lot of fun in spite of the wet and mud. And those cars and the parrot are amazing. xo
ReplyDeleteEverything looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteThe cars! Your pitch! The weather! (yes, even the rain)You and Jon! The parrot!
Somtimes I prefer a picture-heavy post.
Love this, thank you for sharing xx
Wow that looks like an amazing festival and you have some fabulous stock and lots of it blimey must take you ages to set it all up and pack it again. I was trying to spy what camping goodies you had :-) You look fabulous and gorgeous as always lovely, dee xxx
ReplyDeleteI want to put my hands into my computer screen and rummage through all of your gorgeous stock. Kinky just keeps getting better. You and Jon are troupers, love that picture of you in your wellies with a massive grin. One year I went to Glasto (1985) and we were knee high in mud. Had the best time! I recognised that pixie dress as soon as I saw it, that was the first of many you bought in Nottingham! I fancy that little white ford van, how cute! Ah, a new friend, how lovely! p.s. getting excited about the 19th yet?!! xxxxx
ReplyDeleteWow, it all looks like so much fun!!! Vix, you make Wellies look very stylish, but I like the barefoot look best of all :-)
ReplyDeleteHaving been struggling to keep up with reading my favourite blogs over the last few weeks with so many camping trips, festivals etc but had to check out where you had been off to on your travels with Gilbert. Looks fun despite the weather!
ReplyDeleteVix only you could make Wellies look so glamorous!
