Said darling Curtise when I thanked her for sending me this insanely bright top.
1960s Dorothy Perkins maxi (vintage fair, 2009), Frida pendant made by the awesome Tamera |
She apologised for the elastic being a bit clapped out but I didn't mind at all, I'd never done shirring before but in my anxiousness to wear my new top I grabbed the elastic, switched on the machine and set about it without a moment's hesitation, shouting Just call me Shere Khan to Jon. Shir can, get it? Ha! Never a dull moment in our house.
Not that I'm one for seasonal dressing, I wear a bikini when its hot and a coat over the top when it isn't.
None of this running off to the shops for a new wardrobe when the season changes. Its lurid Hawaiian prints and gauzy cotton maxi dresses all year round for me. After all, isn't that why thermal underwear was invented?
Look at me, getting down with the kids and taking a self portrait (I can't bring myself to type the "S" word, text speak appals me). |
There is a hint of Spring in this pretty 1970s Richard Shops maxi I found in a charity shop this week. After an epic buying mission that's taken in charity shops, car boot sales and a secret rendezvous behind the back of a Black Country church hall its one of the few things I'm keeping for me (and, in line with Vix's Rules of Wardrobe Maintenance, I've removed a couple of items from my wardrobe to accommodate it).
This ridiculous 1970s shopper is also a keeper. the man selling it looked at me like I was some poor care in the community candidate when I screamed Oh my god at the top of my lungs when I spotted it at yesterday's car boot sale.

We're venturing to the North West this weekend and taking Kinky Melon to Stockport's Vintage Village. If I didn't own it already I'd be hyperventilating over the stock we're taking. I feel quite sad for not having the time to photograph it all and record it for posterity before it finds new owners.
Have a fantastic weekend - see you on the other side!
Oh Vix your posts are such a breath of fresh air thanks x
ReplyDeleteYaay first to comment x
ReplyDeleteCor blimey - you should come with a warning *cannot look directly at her she will look too fabulous*
ReplyDeleteCan't believe you're coming oop north (tres exciting). Will do my best to be there xxx
Ha ha - I love your bikini in the snow pic!
ReplyDeleteYou're brilliant! Great work on the yellow top, it is a bright one!
Have a wonderful weekend xx
I love yellow nylon, it always reminds me of my grandma when she was younger and full of fun before a severe depression took hold which lasted until her death.
ReplyDeleteYellow is such a fun colour, full of hope.
Have a lovely weekend.
So bright but you suit it perfectly! Looks amazing.
ReplyDeleteAnd swit swoo on the bikini bod.
xx
This is such a lovely bright outfit, the top goes so well with the skirt. Well done on having a go at shirring, I bought some elastic once but have never actually used it! x
ReplyDeleteIs there nothing you can't do? Fabulous shirring, did you see them do it on GBSB ? (and whilst we're on that subject what did you make of the judges choice of winner..we were outraged at Stitch and Bitch!)
ReplyDeleteLove that bastard massive necklace and your new shopping bag, I'd have grabbed that too. Hope your weekend goes well. xxxxxxx
Ha, I knew you'd rock that mad top as soon as I saw it - and well done on fixing the sleeve. Shir brilliance, darling! It looks just fabulous with your beautiful DP maxi (isn't that print gorgeous?) and the bonkers shopper - I'd have squealed too!
ReplyDeleteI am a bit disappointed not to see the results of your epic shopping mission this week, but at least we get to see you looking wonderful in that halterneck dress, so pretty. And Stockport's gonna love Kinky Melon and all your amazing stock! Have fun, you crazy kids! xxxx
Aha, so that's what shirring is. Now it all makes sense. That Curtise blouse and that maxi skirt are just gorgeous, and together, they are sublime. Yes to yellow every time. It looks wonderful on you and cheers me up no end. Thanks for the flash in the bikini, i enjoyed that. What a shame you haven't got time to model all those fab things you are undoubtedly going to sell this weekend. Xxxxx
ReplyDeleteOnly you could rock a bikini in the snow, yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
ReplyDeleteYou rock and roll, my dear friend.
Love you.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
I remember nylon sheets on my bed that in the dark if you rubbed your feet up and down really fast caused enough friction to make sparks in the dark! lol You're probably the only person I know who likes nylon and you rock it too luv! I bet you like crimplene too, I have such a fear of it, mum made me wear a suit, as a kid, made of crimplene and I still remember how it felt, gives me nightmares lol have a great weekend x
ReplyDeleteStill giggling over your bikini shot … love it
ReplyDeletexx
That bikini shot is brill and you look fantastic in bright yellow! Have fun x
ReplyDeleteAnd what is wrong with screaming with joy at the top of our voices when we find a treasure.
ReplyDeleteHimself actually walked out of a charity shop in embarrassment when I did that once!
I'd scream if I spotted that shopper too. It's fab!!!!
ReplyDeleteLooking lovely in yellow!
I would scream at that bag, too!
ReplyDeleteBikini in the snow! I'm off to work now with a smile on my face, thanks to you dear Vix. xox
ReplyDeleteYou posted one of my all time favorite photos you hot bikini babe! I think we have two types of clothes in our closet, warm weather and cold weather, skimpy or burkas, that's all you need no rules makes life easy!
ReplyDeleteYou look like a ray of happiness in your bright yellow top and that bag is a riot from our childhood, I love it!
I wish I could come shop your stock, you both are so good at curating and not over charging people. I love you both so much, best of luck tomorrow honey!
I love you babe!
Xxxxxxxooooo
LOOOOOVE the bikini in the snow shoot!!
ReplyDeletegood job with the new shirring, it´s always the elastic thats gone first.
the pastel frock is gorgeous too!
have i nice and successful weekend - Shere Khan :-)
Love it all - have a fab weekend xxx
ReplyDeleteThat bikini shot is brilliant! Reminds me of the time I went to pick up Robert at the airport wearing only an overcoat and sexy lingerie underneath. The whole way I was hoping I wouldn't get pulled over by the police! LOL
ReplyDeleteOr maybe secretly I was hoping to get pulled over by the police! ha ha! I'll never tell ; 0
Have a great weekend!
bisous
Suzanne
When I last found my turquoise gem earrings at the local charity shop , I almost screamed it out !
ReplyDeleteFor me , it's maxi skirts and frocks all year round ...In the conventional boutiques , you only find them ~ when you do , that is ! ~ during summer ...
My latest treasure hunt bargain : a gorgeous orange , yellow and red floral maxi skirt , with a beautiful lace fringe ...
You look so radiant in yellow Vix , love the magnificent skirt ...
Have a fantastic vintage weekend !
~La Dryada~
You are as naughty as you are beautiful!!! Can't stop smiling at your gorgeous bikini photo! :) :) :) No doubt that there is no dull moment at your house. :)
ReplyDeleteLove your yellow top - Curtise did well! You are a true sunshine, my dear!
Love!
You do make me laugh !!! I love the bag and bikini in the snow :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend
Twiggy x
Ooooh, love that bright yellow!!! Your comment about screaming at the top of your lungs when you saw the shopper made me smile. I scream (or suck in my breath sharply - which scares people) when I spot treasure.
ReplyDeleteHave a good one, eh?
Minx!
ReplyDeleteLove the bikini shot ! Makes me happy , and so does the yellow.
ReplyDeletexxx
I have to admit to extreme envy over the end result of your acquisition and restoration of that gorgeous bright yellow shirred/ruched peplum top from Curtise, so much so that I almost overlooked your pretty 1960s Dorothy Perkins maxi-skirt. That top is gorgeous and exactly the length I love in a blouse. I love your flasher pose out in the snow with your overcoat and bikini. I also love the colour of your eyeshadow in those in-the-mirror self-portrait photos. That's a lovely photo Dawn took of you and Jon at 'My Vintage Events'. I hope you both have a successful and enjoyable time after you and Jon get the Kinky Mellon treasures set up at Stockport's Vintage Village this weekend.

I honed in on that shopper before the yellow - love! Well, the yellow is pretty great too. Have a great weekend selling! Xo
ReplyDeleteI had a weird dream involving purple and orange nylon sheets......I'm losing the plot
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Vix, your post was wonderful! have a good weekend x Les.
ReplyDeleteWhat the fuck! you are going to Stockport Vintage Village and I am in work! noooooo! it's a blooming great place, it's where I got my vintage aprons, 2 quid each, and other stuff - I hope you do brilliantly! the yellow top is fab! I'm rather partial to a little shirring! and I adore the utterly brilliant bikini pic, you are hot! have a great weekend Vix x x x
ReplyDeleteYellow top.... Amazing! Good luck for your fair hope you sell loads.
ReplyDeleteX x
You are so much fun! That yellow top is so perfectly you. The colour would make me look billious but I love and would wear that same style. I love that you use the same clothes year round and while I will layer up summer skirts with tights and sweaters I have yet to wear a bikini under a big furry coat. Of course, I have also yet to wear a bikini or a big furry coat on their own too.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
Good grief, where are my sunglasses!! That top is just divine, and the shopper too, lovely items and they suit you so well!
ReplyDeleteYes to the yellow top! Love it. I have a bright yellow tee that always gets a comment or two, or three, like the time I go caught in the rain with it on, and it might as well have become completely see through. Lesson learned.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the weekend you two lovelies xo.
oh yes, Curtise is a wise woman and your post's title says it joyful loud!!, that yellow top is cute and bright and summery!!, love its mexican vibe with that fridesque pendant on it!, and your maxi has a so fabulous print!!, love everything!
ReplyDeletewish you a busy and funny weekend, dear lady!
besos
Awesomely fabulous yellow top! Zesty and bright just like you! And that shopping bag is wonderful. Make sure you fill it with lots of vintage goodies! XXX
ReplyDeleteLove the yellow top and fab maxi skirt! Oh, and I too cannot bring myself to say the "s" word either! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Vix! I love your outfit with that yellow top, its so cute! I try to get rid of one piece of clothing when I bring one home as well. You and Jon are so fricken adorable!!
ReplyDeleteoh how i love your gauzy maxi dresses and bright hued everything!
ReplyDeleteOh, this yellow top looks amazing! I've been in search for something like this for a while now, but still no luck. Have a nice weekend!
ReplyDeleteI had to put on some sunglasses to avoid being blinded by the Yellow Bri-Nylon glow! You are Shir-Khan, tiger woman with mad sewing skills.
ReplyDeleteIt gets much colder here so I have to have serious winter clothes to get me through the winter. It is starting to warm up, and I'm happy to be able to shed a layer or two.
Have a great weekend, sell lots!
Send some yellow smily sunshine vibes down here, please - I can sell anything (at the right price) as long as it isn't yellow...!
ReplyDeleteYou look great in canary yellow. Love the delicate floral maxi dress in your "self portrait" - hah! I agree through - the S word does grate!
ReplyDeleteThat Richards dress is gorgeous!!!!! Wow to you!! What a find!!!!
ReplyDeleteYes, I love wearing things all year round! Curtise is fabulous!!!! What an amazing top!!!!! And thank you for your love and thoughts x x
If I had your body I would never NOT wear a bikini! :)
ReplyDeleteThat lovely yellow top looks great with the maxi - very springlike and no doubt you'll be brightening up the neighbourhood in that fab gear! xxx
ReplyDeleteThat top is just zing-y. Love it! Looks a treat with that maxi.
ReplyDeleteI meant to comment when you put up the 'before' picture of you in that fabulous catsuit and boa; best outfit EVER!
Bet Stockport is/was amazing...heard lots of good chat about it.
Z xx
This bikini photo is one of the kind! You're right, never a dull moment!
ReplyDeleteThat yellow top is glorious with maxi. I love bright yellow in winter, or anytime for that matter. Such a happy colour.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I think I love your post titles almost as much as your outfits.
ReplyDeleteLucky Stockport getting a hearty dose of Kinky Melon's wares this weekend. Hope you sell loads.
I remember when we entered the 1980's and I sent all my 70's stuff off to the consignment thinking it a bunch of ugly junk but looking at you.....I wish I'd kept it. You do the 70's way better than the 70's did the 70's!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it kind of crazy how easy it is to do machine shirring - I was terrified of it for the longest time. Then I tried it and I was like - what? That's IT? I do love your yellow top and its agreed, yellow is the perfect colour for warmer weather! Have a fabulous stall - sell heaps of things!
ReplyDeleteWell I'm kind of glad you didn't snap off your stock for us to drool over because I probably would have been slamming my hand in a door jam with frustration! I would have been yelping with delight at the shopper too - bloody amazing or WHAT?!! I adore your top from Curtise and your gorgeous green maxi, you did so well with the shirring! I learnt how it's done on The Great British Sewing Bee, which I always imagine you and I sitting together and watching, followed by some Gok to vent our spleens over and pelt the telly with pistachio nut shells. Nuts!!! xoxoxoxoxoxoxo
ReplyDeleteWhat fantastic shirring, shir Khan ! i tried it without as much success. looove the bikini in the snow! I really enjoy your blog, and have awarded you the sunshine and shine on awards!
ReplyDeleteYellow is one of my favourite colours--fierce and fab combination. The 70s shopper is excellent, wow, it still actually looks pretty good, so I can see why your screamed a bit :-) x.
ReplyDeleteThe bikini/coat pic is by far my number one favorite photo of you.
ReplyDeleteSuper cute top!!! Shir can indeed!
ReplyDeleteTotally encapsulates Spring, big time! Love that maxi too...
The new maxi is a sweetie, and you are a sex bomb in it. I likely would have screeched at that tote too!!!!
Love Helga xxxXXXxxx
Hope it was a stonking weekend, love.
ReplyDeleteThat top sings spring...I'm mad for a bit of yellow at the mo and that top is a beaut. I like a bit of shirring...most satisfiying for some reason...maybe it's the getting to the end without anything snapping!
I'd have wet myself had I clapped eyes on that bag. No...really...
loves ya.
xxxxx
I was late with rounds ,horsing around I was .
ReplyDeleteI hope the Kinky Melon, all ripe for the taking,

Hmm thought I just posted ~perhaps I have had too much coffee this a.m. as I don't see it now ~
ReplyDeleteI was saying ...late making rounds have been horsing around .
