We had a lovely day yesterday, blasting out some hardcore dance tunes from Jon's Bad Boy Boombox and dancing non-stop for most of the day followed by curry and a catch up with some of our vintage family but, what with Jon's knackered knees and my ruined hip, we're counting down the days until we can strip off and lay on the sands of a Goan beach for a month.
Back in the old days of corporate whoredom I was contractually required to organise weekend events in addition to my usual 90 hours a week. I don't know how I used to do it, these days I'm exhausted after just one event. No wonder I look half dead in most old photos.
My 1960s spotty maxi & Chelsea Tailor lurex blouse (99p & 50p, Cancer UK), Saluki fake fur (£3, car boot sale) |
It's not all hard slog though. On Friday Jo and Annie came to visit and we had a fabulous day, scouring the chazzas for bargains and trying on almost everything in the now-legendary Second To None.
My Liberty House midi was too big, Annie's Carnegie maxi too small but Jo's St Michael skirt was just right.
As surely as night follows day, a restorative pitcher of cocktails and huge bowls of chips in Wetherspoons is what you get after a day of serious shopping.
My Second To None purchases? Van Allen 1960s cheesecloth smock (£3.50), 1970s C&A flutter sleeve psychedelic blouse (£6) and a fabulous length of vintage fabric (£2.25)
Gifts galore! From Annie - Indian chandelier earrings and stick-on fair trade paisley motifs.
From Jo - the purple velvet Indian crop top, the groovy 1970s metallic shirt and these incredible psychedelic pants...
....worn with a vintage suede waistcoat (from Liz, last Xmas), old skool Bukta leotard & Mary Quant scarf (both from jumble sales) and 1960s Welsh Tapestry Baker Boy cap (British Heart Foundation)
I'm linking to Judith's Hat Attack, Spy Girl's Blue Hues and Patti's Visible Monday
We've an exhibition preview, two vintage fairs (HERE and HERE), my birthday and our space within a shop opening next week and then we can finally start thinking about India. Be ready for packing posts, past travel photos and bikinis at dawn!
See you soon.

ReplyDeleteThe fair looked really busy on fb, so I hope you did well.
ReplyDeleteYour upcoming schedule sounds very busy! Thank God you can have a well earned rest at the end of it all on a sunny beach. Do you have a customized advent calender to count off the days til your holibobs? xxx
Dancing all day sounds a fab way to spend time!
ReplyDeleteLove your outfit though it always seems surprising seeing you in trousers. I think maybe because these ones are more fitting and usually you wear more wide legged ones?? Still look fab though either way.
Phew sounds like you have loads on the go. You will need your India bolt hole after all that.
P x
You got some wonderful goodies!! I love the purple Indian top!!
ReplyDeleteThose pants are freaking FABULOUS!!! Awesome trippy print and perfect with the waistcoat and hat!!

I'm dying to visit Second To None and this taster has whetted my appetite even more, I adore Jo's skirt and your groovy blouse. I'm feeling knackered too, but according to the astrology bird on Steve Wright it's something to do with the new moon.
ReplyDeleteWho'd have guessed?

ReplyDeleteAs I've said a million times, fair-goers often don't realize how much work goes into setting up a booth. The fact that you and Jon had the energy to dance all day must have had them thinking it was a piece of cake!

I've been looking forward to this post to see you all together and find out what you got up to. Looks like you had a great time as usual with great company. Chips, that's an innovation. Like it. June came up trumps again. I love that C&A blouse you bought.
ReplyDeleteDon't you look the business in that cuter than cute outfit with the baker boy hat! I always love that suede waistcoat that Liz gave you, and with these new trousers I could just picture you in Carnaby street circa 1967. Gorgeous. Shame about the LIberty House midi, it's a great print.
Hope you have a nice restful week. xxxxx

ReplyDeleteThe orthopedic issues of life is the only part of this whole age thing that is throwing us for a loop too. If only a warm beach and relaxing waves were on the horizon....
Excellent that your India holiday is not far away now. You will be able to chill out and enjoy yourselves.

ReplyDeleteI feel knackered just reading this and all that you have been up to. It takes me 2 days to recover after doing a fair to a bit longer when its my own I organise. Everything looks fab I can't wait to see how you have designed your shop space please take lots of photo's. dee xx
ReplyDeleteYou two have been putting in sooo many hours of acquiring, cleaning, packing, and selling your vintage wares, you deserve a rest on a sunny beach in Goa. Can't believe it's that time already - weren't you just there?? (I'm sure it doesn't seem like that to you). It's good for the soul to have a carrot at the end of the stick, so to speak - mine is my trip to New York every year.
ReplyDeleteI am getting very good at spotting a Welsh tapestry at 20 paces! I recently found a matching cape and skirt at a local thrift store. How I'd love to do a snoop through Second to None....some day
Dear Vix. Your writing has me laughing out loud this morning. What would I do without you? Loving you outfits and the Welsh Tapestry Baker Boy cap is perfection. Thank you for sharing with Hat Attack.
ReplyDeleteYou guys look like the cool couple we all wanted to be when we grew up And so you are! Looking lovely, the both of you, and I'll hold Goa as a wish for you that comes true sooner than later. And that you win an expense paid trip there so you don't have to pay for it yourselves.
ReplyDeleteYour rusty vest outfit is among my favorites of you yours. So pretty on you. Seasonless chic!
Know what you mean about ex corporate ... me too! Your own business can make for a different set of pressure, but at least it's not coming from the top and from below at the same time!
All finds look amazing ... you all look like you had a FINE time!
I'm so far behind catching up with you all. So sorry, and I continue to persevere!
Have a wonderful week!
I can't wait for an India post. Have you done any in the past. I would love to read them. I love seeing far away places.

Shopping, blogging buds, beer and fries: sounds like the perfect day for me. That shop looks like the ultimate treasure trove. And Jo, I want that skirt to match my blazer! :) It's crazy to sometimes look back at the endless hours we used to work. But then, when you end up doing something you love, all the time put in is a pleasure, isn't it? And you have Goa at the end of it all. Nice. Xoxo
