Kinky Melon was off in Warwickshire yesterday trading at my friend Amy's Blighty Boutique Vintage & Handmade Fair.
Many event organisers struggle to get people through the doors during the summer months but, despite being held in a village hall a few miles drive from the nearest town, over 600 vintage lovin' bargain hunters came through the doors.
And what fine folk they were. Many were repeat customers who'd bought from us back in May and we met some lovely blog readers, too. The van came back significantly lighter, always a bonus.
The red vanity case, navy fedora, several bow ties, old skool travel bag and vintage sailor top you can see in this picture all found new homes!

I wore a 1960s chiffon Peterson Maid maxi I bought in Cardiff last week. |
As a chap we were chatting to yesterday said, vintage is a way of life. We not only sell it, drive it, and live it in but we wear it every day.

Jon wore some jumble sale trousers he'd altered and a 1960s fine knit |
We'd planned to have a lie-in this morning and tackle unloading the van after a leisurely breakfast but a phone call from a contact telling us they'd got some stuff we might be interested in meant that we were back on the road before 9am.
Here's just a snippet of the haul.
Fabulous coats and suits from the 1960s
and a lifetime collection of hats from the 1950s onwards.
This fabulous wool coat has buttons stamped "London, Midland and Scottish Railway Company". At one time it was the largest commercial undertaking in the British Empire until nationalisation in 1948. Splendid condition considering it's at least 65!
Just some of the immaculate 1960s & 1970s menswear.
...and That Shirt not only has the original shirt unworn inside but it to be one of the grooviest packaged piece of menswear I've ever come across.
I promise I haven't become a crazed doll collector but I had to grab this 1960s skiing doll just because she had a pet poodle.
Brilliant! That's this week's stock shopping done so we can concentrate on sorting ourselves out for this weekend's Green Man Festival and maybe (phone calls permitting) manage a lie-in!
See you soon!
See you soon!
Could I be the first, could I, am I?
ReplyDeleteHe he he, I was, that's a first and likely last being in a completely different timezone over the other timezone of the world.

MISSYOUXXXXOOOOO
What a stunning yellow dress! I love the sleeves, they're very 1970s Cadbury's Flake advert, which is always a good thing in my book. It's got that Stevie Nicks floaty-ness to it.
ReplyDeleteThat was a very good tip-off too, at least you can restock your depleted stock with those clothes and hats xxx
Glad it's all going so well with Kinky Melon.you look a vision in yellow.
ReplyDeleteFAbulous yellow dress! Looks like you had a good time.

ReplyDeleteI'll forgive you the dolls if you forgive me the pooch. Sometimes you just have to. Look at that poodle!
I never get tired of seeing you and Jon at work, selling all your amazing stuff. And the word is obviously spreading if you are getting people wanting to give you first refusal on stuff. Exciting! A lie in sounds wonderful. I'm desperate for one. Have a blast at the Green Man! xxxxx
I think I want every one of that first lot of hats, yup every one.
ReplyDeleteHow pretty are you in that beautiful dress. Stunning. And what an awesome haul of goods you scored. Of course, I'm partial to the skiing doll! Especially since she came with poodles.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the van came back much lighter, always a good thing! And now you have stock sorted so you can manage a rest! You make me long for my flea market days, but don't think this back injury (as well as my husbands) can handle it anymore (unless I'm drunk or resort to pain meds, then I wouldn't care if it hurts LOL!) We still have to Skype soon, I know it'll happen when we're both not running around like maniacs!! XXX
ReplyDeleteWow those coats are beautiful, and those hats! Ahh so beautiful pieces! And your yellow gown is amazing !:)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic haul you've got there. Love that pink suit. I used to love buying stock for my business, finding something that you just know will sell gave me a buzz.
ReplyDeleteYou looked amazing in the flesh too darling! My Tony said you looked like the lovely 'I dream on Genie'! xx caddy xxx
ReplyDeleteWow, what a collection! Were the men's and ladies stuff from the same place? (e.g a very well dressed couple). What a beautiful collection of hats. Are you ever tempted to make up fabulous stories to accompany them? I am thinking some up now!

ReplyDeleteWow - I have seen very few people wear yellow as well as you.
ReplyDeleteA breath of sunshine on a grey day.
600 punters, you definitely deserve a lie-in! How gratifying to get so much custom. Your new haul evokes memories of my Nan, the second and third hat pics could have been hers.
ReplyDeleteYou are a vision of lemon-ness.
That Shirt has the best box ever. And hats for days. What a haul! That dolls is nuts: poodle, ball fringe on the tunic, and weird fake snow, ha.
ReplyDeleteLove those hats...You look happy in that dress..
ReplyDeleteYou are a vision of loveliness. Very impressed by the size of the crowds you're getting at these affairs and how wonderful to have folks call and offer new stock.
ReplyDeleteYou have so many great goodies! I love that you bought the doll for the poodle.

You're like a beautiful ray of sunshine in your yellow dress Vix, and what an amazing haul you got! Every time I see your rails of stock something catches my eye, I love the black and grey flowery dress, and the red vanity case. Hope you and Jon have a great time at the festival. xx
ReplyDeleteOh those hats!!
ReplyDeleteLove your bright yellow dress as well, so pretty.
If I had the talent to write a screenplay I had built it on that dark beauty wearing a yellow delightful creation. The It-man in the blue shirt would obviously have a major role in the script aswell.
ReplyDeleteWonderful! And due to your super blogging activities I wouldn't be surprised if you and Jon are by now main attractions to come to the fairs, too. Vintage Bloggers unite!! xoxo
ReplyDeleteOh Vix your posts always fill my eyes with wonder!! What a beautiful yellow dress, I was so curious to see it after you showed us only a little detail, it's perfect!! I love that you are having the success you deserve with your fabulous Kinky Melon boutique, I can spot from here a lot of beautiful and unique pieces that only your talent and knowledge could bring to us!The latest finds are perfect too, I loved, in particular, every single hat and the doll!!
ReplyDeleteLove xxxxxxxx
You are a vision in Saffron! I thought of you when I posted about Mellow Yellow. x
ReplyDelete51st! Yay!
ReplyDeleteI am so bloody behind I can see my own arse but never mind, I am gamely trying to catch up...
LOVE the yellow Cardiff frock (it's almost a twin for the one you sent me for my birthday!) and I bet you were the brightest, most visible and beautiful seller at the fair! As always, your stall looks amazing, sooooo much fabulous stuff.
What a wonderful collection of vintage you bought, just look at all those hats! Do any of them fit you or are they all ridiculously teeny weeny? I can see Helga rocking some of the Mrs Slocombe/Queen Mother-esque ones! The railway jacket looks like something the Fat Controller would have worn, what a great find, and the ski-ing doll with poodle just had to be yours, even if she looks completely bonkers (too much gluhvein après-ski, I reckon...)
Hurrah for regenerating your stock, for lie-ins, and for another festival round the corner! Love you! xxxxx
Make that 52nd and 53rd - that will teach me to type such long comments! xxxx
ReplyDeletedivine, divine, divine!! I love love love that dress on you!!!
