This was what I wore to visit the accountant this morning. He's handled Jon's affairs for years so knows I earn a living from selling old clothes and cohabit with a rock guitarist so he was hardly expecting a blouse, flesh coloured tights and a bob.
This is what I call "appropriate dressing", a rare day of 22 degrees of sunshine demands a slashed-to-the-waist halter neck maxi.
1970s painted platforms
A 1960s rhinestone and velvet choker with shoulder-length Balinese earrings
and a parasol.
I've an ever-growing collection of vintage parasols and couldn't resist snapping up this beauty from the car boot yesterday.
Hopefully it'll be getting lots of use this summer if this weekend's anything to go by.
Talking of which Kinky Melon's Retro Boutique hit the road and ventured to rural Warwickshire on Sunday, here's Jon ready for the onslaught!
We had a brilliant day trading and met some fantastic vintage loving folk.
I finally got to meet the gorgeous Annie after being blogging buddies for almost 4 years. She's even funnier and prettier than she is on her blog.
1970s Californian maxi by Corky Craig (the gorgeous Krista), Mongolian lamb stole (20p, church jumble sale), 1960s Stainless steel & snakeskin pendant (£2, car boot sale), bastard massive feather earrings (£2, Topshop sale a couple of years ago) |
Amy, her beautiful daughter, runs a brilliant event. A generously-sized pitch, free tea & coffee all day for stallholders (no need for Jon's trusty vintage flask) and even a team of friendly helpers on hand to assist in the carrying, unloading and packing up of stock.
1970s cotton maxi by Lizzie (Courtesy of road-tripping Misfit, Sarah), 1970s wedges (£10, eBay), 1950s cotton parasol (50p, car boot sale), 1960s velvet choker (£2.50, Blighty Boutique Vintage Fair) |
There's another event on Saturday and we're already sorted and ready. I was up at 6am replacing zips, spot cleaning 1950s dresses, hemming 1970s maxi dresses and loading the washing machine so I can spend the rest of the day outside in my bikini!
See you soon.

I bet you brightened up his day!
ReplyDeleteIt's sooo nice to have some sunshine isn't it?
Have fun in the garden - and best of luck with the fair this weekend :)

The perfect outfit for a meeting with an accountant I'd say. That vintage parasol is a beauty isn't it, and those platforms are a work of art. All this sunshine has made me think of you and how you'll be lapping it up! xxx
ReplyDeleteNo surprises that I'm loving that green maxi. I love the ring zip in the back. And I ADORE those platform sandals. They are fantastic! I do hope you have plenty of opportunity to work on your tan this week! Xx
ReplyDeleteThat dress is fab, perfect for the sun we've been having!
ReplyDeleteI bet you two are way more interesting than his regular clients. I'm dying to come and have a rummage at the kinky melon stall, that 60s leopard beret is mad! I love it! I love today's choice of dress, everything round here is that eyebending green too, so it's perfect for Spring. The back is gorgeous too. The dress you wore at the fair is really cool too, brilliant pattern. I'm always squinting at your photos of your stall to see what you've got! The parasol is really gorgeous, the pattern is almost an atomic one, which is really unusual. And a total bargain of course! The chocker is just gorgeous! It makes me think of 17th and 18th century ladies. Those platforms are from a completely different place though, they make me think of dancing on a beach in Cuba in the 70s xxxxxxx
ReplyDeleteFabulous way to see the accountant & that halter back I love! Loving the leopard beret & your booth....so many dresses to choose from!
ReplyDeleteDenise
So many perfect details in one post. The fabric of the dress that you wear in your exhibition stand, your shoes and your back (are you 18 years old or what?)etc etc ...
ReplyDeleteWhen Vix shows this much skin I know the sun is shining! You look beautiful as you always do but I can tell the sun is giving you more reason to shine! Happy to hear to fair was a success your stall is bursting with stash, it looks so inviting! Saturday another market you are on fire! I love that you wash and mend your stock, why doesn't everyone do that! I have a think for parasols too but I only own two. One I used on my wedding day it's white covered in pink hearts and the others an Andy Warhol Marilyn Monroe.
ReplyDeleteI have been nursing a very sick Ash the last couple of days. She will be fine but we had a real scare and she has in the hospital overnight. I swear she has the spirit of Janis Joplin inside her, she can't seem to stay out of trouble.
I'd love a chat with you! Lets try and make it happen this week.
Love and miss you!
Xxxxxxoooooo
Gorgeous dress, and perfect for the glorious weather.
ReplyDeleteI'd so love to visit your stall and I know I'd be coming back with armfuls of stuff.
xx
The dresses you are wearing in this post are both wonderful, they remind me that summer is arriving even if here is raining again!! Today's outfit is awesome, the choker, the earrings and those marvellous wedges! I'd love to visit one of those great Vintage events, in the photos your stall seems the perfect place to hunt for treasures! Lots of love
ReplyDeletexxxxxxxxxx
Love the dress and the parasol!
ReplyDeleteLiz @ Shortbread & Ginger
This sunshine and warmth is delicious after our seemingly endless winter, isn't it? And you are dressed to perfection for both the weather and the accountant, love!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful dress, you suit a halterneck better than anyone I know, and the sandals are real favourites, I love them.
Gorgeous parasol, and I remember my eldest sister having a very similar choker in the early 70s, om purple velvet though - very groovy!
Good to know you had another successful fair, you and Jon are obviously in your element, and the organisation of the fair sounds excellent. Yes, once the stock's been seen to, get out there in your bikini, darling! xxxxxx
That halter neck is gorgeous - you look stunning! I'll bet Mr Accountant was more than happy you pitched up in that :-)
ReplyDeleteHope you're enjoying the sunshine after all your hard work...
No doubt the accountant looks forward to your visits, you look very fetching in that gorgeous halter. I love the ring pull zip, I'd forgotten all about those as you never see them nowadays. Glad your sales were good at the weekend. Make the most of that sunshine now!
ReplyDeletexx
Vix you look amazing! The vintage parasol is so darling and how wonderful to meet a long time blogger and friend xxx
ReplyDeleteyeah to sunshine! What else would you wear for a business meeting? Meetings are so boring.
ReplyDeleteChecks AND stripes in one delicious dress. Yummy. Annie and Amy look gorgeous too. xx
ReplyDeleteThat is the perfect outfit to wear to a meeting! Take it from someone who works in a boring office with people who only wear black or rey - a pop of colour is always appreciated! Today I'm wearing a peach/orange crimplene suit, no black skirt suit and nude tights for moi! Hope you enjoy the sun today x
ReplyDeletevix i love your dress! so gorgeous. how wonderful to finally meet long standing blog friends. i'm looking to do the same soon. i'll be traveling to london soon! and i'm filled with anxiety as to what to pack for the weather!
ReplyDeleteYou are a million kinds of inspiring for me- and looking this good in such an unconventional way pretty much sums it up. Love your business attire, and the way you wear success- with savvy and stylish smarts with a heavy dose of bitchin' rocknroll. I want to see more people do what you do, and the way you do it. In their own way of course. That's the vixen way! xo. Bella
ReplyDeleteI'm in the UK now and have seen more sun in 4 days than I did last May/June.
ReplyDeleteThose platforms are perfection! And that choker takes me back. I've got some vintage purple velvet ribbon I can see a use for now.
I love the purple and red pattern on that parasol.
So glad you had a fun show in Warwickshire.
Hello stunning! I am so glad it's shining up a bit, summer's finally arrived..! That choker is fantastic!
ReplyDeletePrecioso este vestido!!

Gorgeous as Always!!
ReplyDeleteIts finally getting a bit warmer even here!
Yet another dress I'd love to steal! xx
ReplyDeleteI'll bet your accountant was talking about you for the rest of the day! Nothing says summer like Vix in a stripey halter dress. Hope you sold lots of stuff at the fair.
ReplyDeleteFABULOUS dress! Your pop-up is to die for! I'd love to cross paths with you! :) xxx
ReplyDeletePS - let me know if the pop-up makes it to Scotland in the next few months, will be there on and off! :)
ReplyDeleteThat accountant is a lucky, lucky man. I've seen the outfits you've worn to visit him before. Bet he gets a twinkle in his eye when you ring up to book a visit.
ReplyDeleteI really do love this outfit, that backless maxi is spectacular. You carry it off better than anyone I can imagine. It reminds me of sweets I used to love when I was a kid, chewy mints called Pacers. They came wrapped in a green and white stripy wrapper. Yummy. I used to ask my Dad to feed them to my teddy, which he did, but I had to go out of the room. Hmmm...Those platforms are just wonderful too. So funky!
Glad you had another great fair. You make it look and sound so easy, which is the sign of an expert! xxxxxxx
Hi there! I really love this maxi dress on you, very sexy and perfect for a hot summery day! So glad all is going good at the vintage fairs too! xx
ReplyDeleteYay to sunshine and lime green halter maxi-dresses!! I'm sure you were the most FAB person he's seen in his office in quite a bit!!! That dress is just stunning and those platforms are so so COOL!!

Hope the weather stayed nice enough for a bikini after your chores. I am off for a ike ride now.
ReplyDeleteThat green is such a cool outfit for hot weather.
An accountant's daily life has got to be dreary. Just imagine! Having you and Jon walk in must be like a GIFT! In fact, just about everyone must feel that way when they see you coming. Oooooo that choker <3
ReplyDeleteConnie*
That certainly made that accountant's day. Or at least gave him something to talk about over lunch besides numbers. Darling dress and those shoes? I absolutely remember some of my friends having shoes like that back in the day.
ReplyDeleteLucky, lucky accountant! Love this halter dress and the painted sandals are too fab. xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteI'm sure your colorful presence was a bright spot in what might have been an otherwise dull day!
ReplyDeleteI've been playing catch up here on your blog and believe I've missed an event or two. The two of your are really "on the go".
22* woohoo!! Bring on the gorgeous weather so you can wear all your gorgeous frocks!!
ReplyDeleteGAWWWWW-JUSS!
ReplyDeleteAh you look lovely, and isn't it perfect weather for it too? I must try to catch up with you at one of your fayres.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if that San Marco is anything to do with the Brum one. I had never even been until last weekend. Xx
You are absolutely right my friend. That is the perfect outfit to wear to the accountant's. Working in the field myself, I wish I encountered more people while working, who were just like you. Maybe the lack there-of is part of the reason I am currently taking a break from it!
ReplyDeleteYay, to bikini weather! And the sale sounds like it was a very good one. Neat that you met a longtime blogging friend.
You look perfect wearing the green maxi with parasol in the garden! I also have a parasol/umbrella fetish....never can have enough. God, I would love to shop at that sale! XXX
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty dress and it looks lovely with your tan x
ReplyDeleteThe green dress and chocker seem to be made to go together! I love how your clothes make me feel. It might sound a bit weird to say this way but what I mean is that it always makes me smile! The colours, the way you put the clothes and accessories together, it reflects happiness to me! xxx
ReplyDeleteyour stall holds so many goodies!
ReplyDeleteThat green maxi is a treat :) x
So glad you're getting summer temps as well as getting a lot of wear out of your fabulous maxi dress collection (though, in truth, you have so many artful ways of wearing and layering them in the colder weather). I can't decide which of these dresses I like better but the back on the first one IS amazingly sexy. Xoxo
ReplyDeleteYay, you met Annie!!!! I, like Clare, am dying to come to a fair and look at Kinky Melon's wares!!! So much exciting stuff!!! So glad you had another successful event!x
ReplyDeletesheesh! look at you in that halter dress! Jaw dropping awesome
ReplyDeleteI was confused momentarily by the stole- I thought your hair had grown!! Then I saw the next pic and realized what was going on. Love the green and white fabric! Reminds me of a handmade bridesmaid's dress I wore in the '70's at my brother's wedding. Long gone, sadly.
ReplyDeleteJohn looks adorable and I love hearing about the Kinky Melon adventures. XXXXOOOO!!!!
I am utterly jealous of your green velvet 1960's choker! I love how you've accessorized your outfit. xx
ReplyDeleteLove that Corky Craig maxi, loving the painted 70s platforms, and loving the Balinese earrings!! Have fun in the sun!
ReplyDeleteBecky :)
wish you all the best for the upcoming market. ... vintage fashion means a lot of work sometimes (the next months when i look for a new job in the new city, i want to fix all the 'hurt' treasures sitting in the storage room) ...
ReplyDeletei'm really really jealous because of all these vintage markets around you ... why don't we have this here in germany?!
I hope Kinky Melon is doing really well, I love the dress you are wearing in the stall photos, such a glorious pattern and the colours are fab too!
ReplyDeletePerfect outfit for accounting! I love the ring on the zipper in the back, how much easier to handle. And so many gorgeous customers to your boutique. I'd have tried to buy that maxi you're wearing. Wishes for a sunny weekend!
ReplyDeleteThose platforms are amazing. I'm sure you gave the accountant a thrill. He's probably used to the twin set and pearls brigade in his job. The parasol is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteAppropriate indeed! I'm such a fan of parasols. The maxi is a goldmine! You look beautiful Vix! xx
ReplyDeleteI kind of forget that your fab outfits might look a little shocking to other people who encounter you in the street, they are just so perfectly you!
ReplyDeleteThat is the best ever outfit to wear to meet an accountant, I am in awe! You look so beautiful in both those gorgeous outfits, it's wonderful to see how much you enjoy your job too. Being self employed is the best isn't it!
ReplyDeleteaah u look so summery vintage :)
ReplyDeletelove the lip color on you :)

Phew, just had a marathon catch up of your posts there Vix and it was a cheering read seeing you in all your gorgeous outfits. So many beautiful dresses and I love the culotte suit you made yourself. It looks really well finished as well, I'm in awe of your sewing talents! I see you took Kinky Melon on the road so I hope you're heading up this way one day, I'd save up my pennies for that. And I bought that green top off ebay but it is from Next originally, I'm chuffed your friend Liz has the same one, I know from your blog she's a stylish lady, so I'm in good company! xx

Hi Vix!
ReplyDeleteLooking fabulous and appropriate i wear about the same when i go to Mr D"s accountant, they won't see me with a shirt and bob for sure !
It has been very warm and sunny here for the pas week but we are going back on the cooler side for the weekend
It's a lot of work selling vintage, i wash my stock before putting them on line and have the mending done by my wonderful seamstress, she is not expensive and does excellent work -
I'm happy that your venture selling vintage is going well!
Ariane xx
If everyone including the accountants dressed a bit more like you, offices wouldn't be such boring places and visits so excruciatingly dull!
ReplyDeleteI love the clothes you wore to the fair- it's also funny how in some of the photos the stole looks like an extension of your hair.
Hugs xx
You couldn't be more stunning in your 'meeting the accountant' outfit! The shoes with your chocker are particularly appealing to me. Good luck on Saturday!

Now that's how to make accounting a pleasant experience (for everyone)! And did the weather cooperate with your bikini plans? Well, sooner or later. I think maxis should be named after you. Have to think of a clever name...Vixies? hmmm.
