Chiffon In The Snow

After Minerva commented, Enough is enough! When can we wear our floaty chiffon again? I knew what I had to do. I've had enough of being held captive to a seemingly eternal winter so off came the fake fur coat, long-sleeved crimplene maxi, gloves and the sheepskin hat that's been almost welded to my head for a fortnight and on came my Jean Varon cocktail frock.

For a fleeting moment it felt deliciously liberating, that is until the snow started to fall and I had to scurry back indoors to sit next to the fire and shroud myself in blankets.

Why don't you join me? Crack open your wardrobe and get snapped wearing something totally unsuitable, impractical and floaty, maybe if we ignore the weather it'll get bored and leave us in peace - just don't blame me if you go down with hypothermia!

Mental? I'm probably still delirious from the £10 a litre bargain white rum I was drinking last night and the news that The Rolling Stones are headlining Glastonbury. Can you believe it? I might just explode with excitement.

I know it's been months since I mentioned a Kinky Melon website & finally it's up and open for business. A long time coming but hey, computers weren't even on the curriculum when we were at school so it's been a long and slow (and argumentative) process.

Kinky Melon's Retro Boutique

I've made a couple of sales already! Don't worry, I promise not to turn my blog into an advert, I'll pop the link in my side bar and it's entirely up to you to visit.

Jean Varon chiffon dress (50p, jumble sale, 2012), Handmade Indian pendant (the gorgeous Edie Pop), silver headband (75p, YMCA) worn with heaps of bastard jewellery, vintage wellies and some very unattractive thermal underwear.

It's Walsall's award winning night market tonight, an evening of live music, an open air bar, delicious street food and stalls offering handmade, vintage and eclectic goodies. It's forecast to be -8C so it's thermals all the way.

See you soon.

  5. That is a nice dress and so inventive of you to pair it with heavy jewelry -- looks great and I would not have thought of that!

It snowed here yesterday too. I woke up to a present on the kitchen counter from my fella today -- a new bathing suit. So done with snow -- I want a tan!

  8. Beautiful Vix. I have been flicking through a list of 40+ bloggers and I have to say, they have been mostly a bit dull when it comes to wardrobe. I feel more restricted by my size than my age, but it seems that many people over 35 are still dressing in a very bland and generic way. Thank goodness I have you as my style eye candy.

  12. This dress is heaven! I was thinking the other day, I have nothing that fits a fancy dinner party and this dress gave me a great direction to what I'll look for!
About the Stones heading Glastonbury, makes me happy and frustrated cause as exciting as it is I know I won't be able to afford tickets this year.. Just like on their last tour! xxx

  13. Hello, Mother Nature,
What a great look, who knew chiffon and bastard jewelry went together so well?

I really did almost burn dinner looking at Kinky Melon the other evening. Way to go!

  14. Oh I'm letting the side down - sorry Vix but I've got a massive tweed cape on today, not chiffon! You'd approve though. It's vintage and it's lovely :D

  15. Hi there-you are a vision of loveliness in your Jean Varon frock, it looks grogeous! Have a fabulous night too xxx

  16. Ha ha! now this realy did make me smile! (Pleased you liked my comment!) You crazy diamond! How fabulous do you look? Love the white chiffon, peacock eye and pink lipstick against the snow. Wonderfully photographed too, a master stroke. I'm thinking I WILL wear floaty somethings and just cover it with furs and shawls. Enjoy Easter! Minerva ~

  17. Your layered ruffled floaty chiffon dress is gorgeous! You're like a vision in a dream sitting outdoors with snow around you in that dress. Your lipstick and nailpolish go beautifully with it and I love your jewelry too. I'm terrible at the names of colours which is why I so often want opinions on the proper name of the colours I wear in my own outfits. To me your dress looks like a light orchid or lavender - perhaps more pink in it than a periwinkle. Whatever the name I love it! There were never computers when I was in school either but sites like Kinky Mellon's Boutique make it worth having one. Your suggestion of opening my wardrobe and going outside to "...get snapped wearing something unsuitable, impractical and floaty..." sounds like a dare. Why, oh why am I such a chicken? I wonder if I could get someone to take the photos? That would certainly get some attention!

    Have a wonderful Easter weekend!

As a member of the later-technology generation I completely understand the time and effort that you both must have gone through.
You look ethereal and beautifully content and warm.
I found it funny that you do want to inspire others to get their best out of season clothing and get out with the elements but not so much that causes them hypothermia!

  30. Vix the Goddess in Jean Varon! How beautiful! I'm not sure I have ever seen you in that delicate lilac colour before, it really suits you. Dreamy and soft and floaty and feminine, if this gorgeous vision doesn't bring the Spring, I don't know what will!
Well done on getting the website sorted, it look really good. I love the pics of you and Jon, and that you have featured your own style and home. After all, you two and your fabulous home are the best ever adverts for your business.
You might combust with happiness at Glastonbury this year, Vix - if Keith gets a glimpse of you in the crowd, he'll be smitten and Jon will have to give him a stern word...
Enjoy your night on the town, darling! xxxxxxx

  44. Seems like you folks in the Northern Hemisphere are having a never ending winter - I can understand the desire to bring out some pretty, floaty clothes. You look like some kind of ethereal figure in this floaty frock! I had a look at Kinky Melons Boutique and you guys have done SUCH an amazing job of the site, it looks great and there are a couple of things that are tempting me, although I have a holiday coming up in a month so I should really hold back on spending....perhaps. I love that you guys talk about your whole vintage ethos and way of life too. Well done:)

I wish I could wear dresses like that, but I just look ridiculous. I'm much better off with structured things that have a bit of edge. You, on the other hand, seem to be able to rock every frickin' style in the universe (I'm not jealous, really I'm not)
