Keep Smiling & Carry On Blogging

I'm on a roll with my third post in as many days. Can you tell I'm missing Krista? Her post today has made me feel incredibly wistful and I'm having to find solace in blogging. I promise to give you a break from my wittering once the weekend rolls around.

Happy days! I've pinched this picture from Krista's blog.

There's a nip in the air, especially when it's before 9am in the wilds of the Staffordshire countryside trawling a car boot sale. It's a struggle to look decent when your ears feel like they're going to drop off and your eyes are streaming from the cold.

This was the outfit I pulled together at the crack of dawn this morning. Why bother for trudging around a field? I hear you say. Don't be daft! I never dress down for a car boot sale despite the ungodly hour & inclement weather conditions. Over the years the regular sellers have got to know me and my style and put things aside they think I'll like. I'll often turn up wearing stuff they've sold me, which they tell me makes a pleasant change from people bragging about how much money they've made from selling on stuff they bought from them in the past.

I'd love to show you what I bought but, being a dreadful tease, I'm going to make you wait until it's all been washed and ironed (and there might be more to add tomorrow providing the weather stays dry). In the meantime feast your eyes on the fabulous treats I've been given by some equally fabulous blogging buddies recently.

Clockwise from top left: A-mazing Cher card Tamera created for me! Ace 1970s cape pattern & Indian dupatta from Clare, pretty Welsh pottery preserve pot from Lucy (containing Marmite, just in case Krista's missing it), groovy 1970s brushed denim jacket (which Jon's laid claim to) from Clare, Two fantastic vintage patterns from Lucy, Gorgeous Ganesh pendant (previous seen on my mountaineering expedition HERE) hand-made by mega-talented Tamera. I spotted this fecking awesome Trechnikov plaster head in a Walsall charity shop when I was with the girls & Krista insisted on buying it for me.

Lurex dress (courtesy of Tamera), Insane Steve Madden (doesn't he make shoes?) gillet (British Heart Foundation, £5.99), Green suede platform boots (PDSA, £4.99), Leather duffel bag (50p, car boot sale), 1970s Ted Lapidus sunglasses (Acorns Hospice, £2.99), Lime green opaques (Birthday present, 2011)

I'm off to celebrate three days of being booze-free by cracking open a bottle of pear cider with my dinner.

Cheers and see you soon!

PS My outfit's made it to Sammy Davis's blog post. She's my latest blog discovery and she's totally fabulous. Check her out HERE.

  1. Wow, that outfit is brilliant! Spangly lurex & kermit green legs, YOWZA! As for that tremendous gilet, I've never seen anything like it and perhaps more to the point, I WANT ONE!
Both you and Krista look radiant in that second picture.
    Lot's of love,
    Jennie...xXx

  2. OOO Vix--I love how you styled the lurex mini--I knew it was YOU when I spied it on the rack!! You got some awesome goodies--if you could find a pair of pants to match the brushed denim jacket Jon and Helga's G-man would be twins!!!

  4. How fabulously shaggaliscious!!! This outfit suits you so well, and definitely has a Cher feel to it with the amazing feathery vest over the sparkly mini and those funky boots. Of course you would wear one of your typically awesome outfits to go to a car boot sale!

  5. Personally I am LOVING the deluge of Vixen posts- so keep 'em coming! You of course look abso fabo and I think that my recent eyeing of vintage lurex is influence of you, Helga and Celia. Love your attitude towards dressing almost as much as your sweet sweet face. Almost, and a lot.

  7. You look smashing as always! I need to take a tip from you and dress up for my weekend rummage sale adventures. I usually go at 10 AM after I am done work for the morning (I go in at 5 AM on Saturdays). Maybe folks will set stuff aside for me (fingers crossed!)

  8. I've loved reading about Krista's trip, and I'm so glad she got to have a quick visit to the Art Gallery and see that beautiful and moving Van Gogh.
It looks like you had a brilliant day at the blogger meet-up, sorry I missed that!
You look fabulous in that mini and gilet. Can't believe how cold it's suddenly gone. But you've got India to look forward to, and I'm sure you'll make a hefty chunk of the airfares at the weekend. (The Biba dress is nice, but not as nice as Goa!) xxx

  20. Love the tights Vix! Also, love the never dressing down attitude, I'm the same. Casual clothing always makes me feel so uncomfortable and sloppy! You have received some lovely gifts lately, looking forward to seeing you whip up some of those patterns. Especially the cape:)

  28. LOVE that fab gilet (I had to google it!) so MUCH! In fact the entire outfit is so rockstar chic I want to put you on a poster on my bedroom wall and sing into my hair brush! I feel wistful looking at the pics of you and Krista together too - you're like sisters. The Cher card is FABULARSE! Love you more than Cher! Sarah xxx

  29. Hi Vix, Apologies for not commenting on your fab visitors, the breathtaking scenery (it made me rather sad to not be there instead of here!) and that amazing Biba dress! I have a prized pair of Biba boots picked up at Camden mkt back in the 80s and wouldn't part with them for any amount of $$! So cool that you have your mum's necklace she purchased at Biba back in the day! I'm behind in everything, had a rather nasty mishap which renders typing difficult. I hope to bounce back asap as I have so many fun Halloween posts to get posted! XXX Suzanne aka Jet (I hate my name and change it every decade or so... right now Jet is just right!)

  30. I had more than a wee tear over Krista's latest post, you look so happy and utterly ecstatic during the time you had together! It was so lovely to see more pics of you and Jon in your home, Liz, all of you eating and drinking together and all those lovely squeezes you got to enjoy:)). No wonder the car booters love you, you bring them early morning joy looking so fabulous and frisky - I would def keep my best stuff aside for you!! xoxo

  31. I don't want you to be sad, but I'm happy that you are blogging your way through it :) It's a dilemma, isn't it? Love all the textures of your outfit. And such lovely gifts from your blogger buddies.
I've got plans for a Goa trip in the next couple months, so I might be sending you an email asking for some advice if that's ok.

  32. Teaser!!! But it will be worth the wait. ♥

  40. These chilly mornings are making getting dressed every morning even more of a 'how to accommodate the weather today' challenge in the Midlands. Love the way you approach this though, especially the tights and boots combination and that incredible gillet.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Oh my gosh, that outfit! It is just amazing. My favourite thing has got to be that vest. It's just...guh...INCREDIBLE.

P.S. I really enjoyed all your posts about Krista's visit! You two look like the most kindred of spirits. :)

  45. Who wouldn't put things aside for you? Spectacular outfit!! Truly. The first photo was great but when I scrolled down and saw the mini length and those legs...well! You need a headband with a little speaker that plays a soundtrack to accompany you wherever you go. On second thought, probably people start hearing music without your speaker when they see you.

  46. Oh you'd be a spoiled bint wouldn't you, lol! Hope the fair preparations are going well, don't forget to price everything a bit higher than what you want!!

  47. i can't keep up with your awesomeness! that dress! wow, you really have the best readers ever. it's a good thing i have a small wardrobe b/c there is a serious shortage of beautiful vintage clothing here. all our shops have gone upscale and it's sickening what they are now charging. $75 for an old dress! i suppose it helps me with keeping a small wardrobe but still...

have a brilliant weekend my friend.
    mucho love,
