Fair's Fair

Would you buy a used frock from this woman?

 Or even from this man?

Loads of people did!

Jon managed a quick break from the selling to take some pictures.

The community centre was packed out from the moment it opened until closing time and despite the terrible weather over 800 people came through the doors including some old mates, ex-work colleagues and school friends.

We're worn out from all the smiling. Gilbert's still packed with stock but it's raining so hard it's not even worth considering attempting to empty him just yet.

After a couple more of these and we could be in India sooner than you think!

The entertainment wasn't half bad but I'm glad we weren't too near the stage, I could hardly hear my gorgeous pal, Vintage Laura when I skivved off to visit her (and made a sneaky purchase whilst I was at it!)

Thanks to my old school pal, Kate, for recording the band!

Shubette of London Go-Go suit (£11.90, Second to None), Wolf choker (50p, car boot sale), Braided headband (the dressing-up box)

Not a Victory Roll, net petticoat or hint of red lipstick in sight, I'll never be mainstream vintage, but my outfit got lots of love, I posed for heaps of photos and made a whole host of fabulous new friends.

I'm linking to Patti's Visible Monday!

See you soon!

  5. Vix your stall looks fab, as do you lovely, I would LOVE to buy a dress off you, woman! I can so relate, I feel like a clown in red lipstick and my hair is far to wild for Victory rolls!!! Looks like you had a great turn out!

  6. I would buy at LEAST one frock off you - possibly more:)

Looks like a great day out - I like a victory roll or two now and then, but like you, I'm no fan of "conforming" when it comes to vintage. I just like wearing stuff because I think its rad.

I love your outfit - especially the fringed waist coat! Such a fun outfit:)

  8. Well I don't know about the man with half a leg missing, he seems like a dodgy sort, pirate-ish even ;) lol. But the woman looks lovely, so yes I would probably buy a frock from her, even if she doesn't have a victory roll :)

What an amazing turnout, you'll be on a beach in no time. Did Diana Ross go or is she coming back home to your boudoir?

  13. Well I KNEW you would do well! You were made to do this, who wouldn't be intrigued by all the gorgeousness on your fab stall, and want to buy from the smiley hippy chick in the fringed go-go suit?!
The fair looks really busy, and that's what you need, lots of punters, lots of chat and smiles, and of course, wonderful vintage goodies.
Keep at it, and the air fare fund will be full in no time!
What sold well? Any Vix top tips? Could you become a vintage fair regular, as a seller?
You look stunning, and good for Jon being official photographer and general assistant! xxxxx

  17. Excellent! Looks fantastic. I like the trad. vintage look but it can get a little boring to see all the time. You look great as always!

  18. Mainstream vintage? **blows raspberries** bleurgh!!! You are mainstream NOTHING baby!! Sounds like you're not only a wee bit closer to your next trip to paradise, but you've caught up with some old mates - the market looks like lots of fun, more like a party really:)) xoxoxoxoxo

  19. That fair looks like it was a great success and a lot of fun!!

Your outfit is pure genius and I think just because you don't do the whole 40's/50's thing it doesn't mean you're not a bona fide vintage wearer!!!

  20. aaah that fair looks fab! good luck with selling all your stock, you'll get there in no time! :-)

  21. Good for you! (Sales, I mean.)

And YES. I'd buy - if anything fit my late middle aged body (or more accurately, early old aged body).

The fair looks like great fun & I can believe you were a star.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Both you and your stall look totally stupedously amazing. I'd certainly have bought something from you. So pleased it was a great success and that the crapulous weather didn't put the punters off.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I don't think there was any doubt you were going to have a successful time the fair. What a fabolous from filled stall you look to of had too. I'll put my hand up to being g another who would delight in a flip through your pickings.

Here's to hoping your sunning yourself in India sooner rather than later. X

  24. Jealous much!! How fantastic was your day and you looked superb!! I love doing markets, used to have a stall every 2nd month at one at Whangamata a small seaside town where my sister lives with her. We were such a good double act with our selling talent. I miss that.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Your stall is ram packed with stuff which is obviously the best way to display everything because then people don't feel anxious about picking anything up and can have a good old rummage! I'm not surprised you were Queen Of The Fair, you look gorgeous and you're so friendly I bet that arracted more people! It looks great fun - you should definitely do it again!

    ReplyDelete
  26. So pleased you did well and the filthy weather didn't put punters off. Your stall looks packed with gorgeous stuff but I bet you were the main attraction. Sorry my spider gave you the willies.

  27. The best thing about you is your lack of "mainstream vintage." They are great too, but there's only one Vix, and your style is fun, singular and gorgeous, and we all recognize it, and relate to it. I'm so jealous of the hordes of nice folk who got to shop yours and Jon's stall and meet you!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Ah it looks fab - whereabouts was this?? xXx

    ReplyDelete
  29. Amen to not being mainstream. It makes you rock more!

  30. Dearest Vix,
I just knew you'd be a roaring success, I mean how could you possibly fail with all the right ingredients...lot's of fabulous vintage stock, an almost encyclopedic knowledge of vintage threads and most importantly an infectiously smiley face, a warm big heart & a magnetic and enchanting personality. I think you should do this more often, you've got ample transport so you could even hit the road baby...'Vintage Vixen on Tour'...and if you ever need a place to stay in North London, there is always a "luxury" blow-up mattress in our spare room for the pair of you (the room is decidedly less cramped than when you were last here, I'm making real progress in the decluttering department). Both you and Jon look the bees-knees, I am so happy you had a fabulous day!
    Lot's of love,
    Jennie

  39. What fun! You look wonderful as usual. I didn't know there was something called "mainstream vintage". That sounds just as bad as "on trend fashion". Wear what you want, mix it up and dress to make yourself smile!

P.S. Love the new blue shoes in the post below - I am now convinced you live in a town whose prices, new and used, have time-warped back to an impossibly cheap era! xoxo

  42. You are your best advertisement for your fabulous wares!!! That outfit is stunning!!
It looks like an amazing Fair--how I wish I was close enough to come to it. We have NOTHING even remotely like this here!!!
I'm sure there will be more folks strutting the streets of Walsall in their new Vixified outfits!!
    {{{{hugs}}}}

  43. WOW! You look AMAZING! And how sweet Jon is to support your efforts. Absolutely I would have bought from you both! And how COOL that you ran into so many fun people!

Just about sold off all my 40/50s vintage clothes as I only do 70s vintage now. They say, "If you can remember it, you shouldn't wear it." but I really don't care what "they" say. I love it! Oh, and I never wore a Victory roll. That would just be too... well, weird.

Did a vintage fair in LA once and was amazed at how much more I could get for an item than at a flea market and how much quicker I could find a buyer for it. A targeted audience is always a good thing and the whole vibe of the show was just heaven.

Well done, girl, and thanks for sharing. :)

I'm knackered from smiling and yammering at two Permaculture stalls this weekend, but it was good fun. I shall try not to miss your next event though xxx

  51. There is that sweet two piece fringe number, who can notice all your cool loot with you looking so fantastic! You look hot mama! Jon looks pretty friggin stylish too! I'm so happy you sold a ton of stuff! Look out India you are almost there.

Your booth is bursting with all kinds of stuff I'd love to have a rummage through. The place looks packed. This also looks like the perfect spot for Liz to sell her bags!

Sorry to hear about the rain coming down, I think we are still in the clear for another week. I'm soaking up the sun for us both!

  55. Omg you really stuffed that space, good job! Well I def would've been attracted to your stall, much more interesting than the same old, same old. Plus, it tends to be the sort of stuff I like and sell (and looks good on kid-sized me). I hope you didn't have too much to bring home, and made loads of dosh! India is nearing... I hope you get there soon, I need someone to travel vicariously through! XXX

  58. Darling, I would always buy a used frock from you and Jon (did he take things to sell too?)! The vintage world needs more of us 60s/70s chicks to avoid collapsing under the weight of victory rolls and cupcakes! Definitely would love to meet you soon, need to get selling too!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Your stand looks fab, if I were there I would have remortgaged my house and bought it all!!!

  65. Don't you just love it when people hand you money? And when there's a whole lot more room in Gilbert on the way home than there was before? And sometimes you meet interesting people when selling. And you don't have all the admin work of selling online. I wish I had been there to add to the India Fund.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Those pictures took me back to the jumble sales my grandma used to take me to in the 1970s.
Glad you made some money. Look forward to sharing a trip to India with you soon.

  72. Blimey that's a lot of stock! You and your stall look fabulous - I'm not surprised you did well. Jon looks ace too, but he should have matched you in monochrome so you looked like a seventies singing duo :).

Looks like an amazing fair too. Wish I could've been there (and had money).

I haven't heard of vintage fairs until I started following you, Helga, and Sarah. I went to a pop up shop once, but it wasn't as cool as this one.

PS: Yep! The grilled cheese sandwiches are fried. I have toasted some in the oven. Is that how you make yours?

    ReplyDelete
  75. If I saw you at a booth at a vintage fair I would run right over to say hello, drool over your outfit and buy a whole bunch of stuff. Glad it went well, there was never any question that you would!

  76. This outfit reminds me of Cher in the 60's! Wow, is it ever fabulous and looks fabulous on you. It brought back memories of one of my favorite 60's outfits. I wish I still had it just to look at as I sure would not fit in it now!
