Charity Shop Finds - Just In Biba!

So what did I find in the chazza shops of the Lake District when I was with my dear Krista last week? Just one thing....this dress (which I'm linking to Lakota's Ta-Dah Tuesday)!

I knew it was something special just by the glimpse of gauzy bell sleeve peeking out from a rail of fuddy-duddy Marks and Spencer frocks.

Oh yeah, the ultimate in vintage cool, an original Biba dress hanging up in a busy tourist town for all to see. The woven label gives an indication of the date as this style was phased out and changed to a printed one in 1971.

I won't tell you how much it cost, not because it was expensive but 'cos much as I love it I'm hoping to sell it on. A trip to India is worth far more to me than a label, no matter how cool the label happens to be.

Check out my other Biba posts HERE

Besides, unless I wear it inside out who's going to know who made it?

Biba midi dress worn with ultra violet opaques (birthday present last year) and a 1970s felt hat (50p, car boot sale)

But until I find a buyer I'm sure it'll fit quite well into my wardrobe.

I bought these suedette platforms from Saturday morning's car boot sale for a measly £1!

Turquoise ring from Miss Magpie, the rest are second-hand or inherited. My Mum bought the thong necklace from Biba.

My Biba flares bought from a charity shop back HERE

If only I'd been old enough to accompany my Mum on shopping trips to London back in the 1960s rather than being left at home...a girl can dream (or at least play with PicMonkey)!

Linking to Patti's Visible Monday.

Lake District finds may be thin on the ground but I've got car boot finds, charity shop buys and gifts from blogging buddies to share with you later this week - watch this space!

  1. I can see how much fun you're having (loved the pics in your last post)! How do you think of the combinations you wear???? The hot pink "legs" w. lipstick & jewelry are just the spark to frame the great dress!

  4. Vix....this dress looks so friggin hot on you!!!!! I love that you know your vintage stuff, I'm sure you will have no problem finding a new home for it and in the meantime rocking it in your usual Vixtasic way puts a smile on my face at this butt crack of dawn hour. I love that I was with you when you found it!

Temps expected to be in the 90's today, I will bask in the sun thinking of you and missing you like crazy! I'll take one more week of bare legs!

I love you more than Biba!

  6. Beautiful dress. When I was a frumpy, fat teenager, I wanted to grow up to look like the Biba girls. Didn't happen, I grew up to look like me!

  7. Another Biba find, so great!!! I really love Biba's style and I save every image I find..who can forget their Twiggy campaign ? This dress is fabulous and I'm sorry that I don't own a zillion pounds to buy it from you, but I think that you should keep it because it looks splendid on you!! The sleeves are lovely and so the white floral fall print on the gray organdy perfect with the bright thigts and the red platforms!!
    Lots of Biba love!

And how do you manage to find bargains like those platforms for £1, if only I had your luck x

  10. Those platforms are super fabulous and the dress looks gorgeous on you but I can understand that it'll raise you (hopefully) a bit of money to put towards your next vacation to India.

  18. Ha ha, great post title. I'm still smiling as I type. What a gorgous, gorgeous dress. My aunt had a very similar one in the seventies and wore her's with grey opaque tights and platforms. She looked almost as good as you but not quite. xx

  24. What a thrilling find! I know what you mean about parting with items "for the greater good" -- I have to make those hard decisions as well. Just bought a vintage-inspired Nicole Ritchie-designed dress yesterday that I was going to keep. But once I saw how much I could get for it online -- it is going to move on. Still I love everything about that Biba dress and would find a way to replicate it.

  27. That dress just screams Barbara Hulanicki (sp?) and looks so absolutely fabularse on you. I would think twice about selling it, but as it's gen-UINE Biba you can probably get top dollar for it.
I adore Biba and your hat is just the most perfect accessory and colour.

  28. Excellent blog title Vix!

I found a vintage Courreges shirt dress for £5 in a chazza a couple of weeks ago. Truly gorgeous quality but I will be eBaying it as it doesn't fit, sadly.

I know I'm being a shameless self-publicist here but did you see the glorious wirework Biba mannequin that I found on Ebay. Just sad that I didn't have room for it myself. x

  34. Wow - you wear this dress the way it was made to be worn. The hat, tights and those show-stopping shoes are inspired. I guess sacrificing this dress to the cause is worth it. No matter how smashing you look in this, it's no substitute for the times ahead in India or wherever you travel.

  45. You look fabulous--love the stockings pop of color!!
Now I'll know to snag up anything that say's Biba. With the dearth of vintage clothes in this area I'm more likely to snag a live rhino!!

  46. You make a perfect Biba model, and from the looks of the photos from Krista's visit you make the perfect hostess too. ;)

  47. Gorgeous dress and perfectly paired with the 70's felt hat. I am swooning over the addition of color, as only you can do.

I admire your discipline! To give up a dress this beautiful and not keep it in your collection is true devotion to your love of travel.

  48. Nothing wrong with on selling and making some money for something you really want. I do that all the time. Looks lovely on you especially with your wild pink tights and platforms!!

  49. May I say that you remind me of Cher? I always loved her style growing up. Something very individual and special....and you have IT!

  51. Looks fab! Particularly liking it paired with 'shocking' tights and those £1 shoes :D

But I know your heart belongs in India, whereas I like to hibernate in the winter months, you like to get some winter sun, and why the hell not?! Good luck with your selling, and hopefully those plane tickets will be yours quicker than you can say Just in Biba! :P

  54. i love how you love this dress but how a trip to india means more to you than a label! i cant tell you how wonderful that is to here. Labels arent anything but a name, and even though i fall weak to them now and again i am happy in a chazza shop dress as i am in a "brand" actually im more happier if it was cheap haha! Lady, you are looking beautiful1 the tights and the shoes are beyond glorious on you!You are truly inspirational xxxx have a wonderful week!

    ReplyDelete
  55. OOh a label from a tourist town, awesome!! I love the colours you put it with, but midi or full-length is best on you IMHO, I hope you don't mind me saying what I think, but as you're onselling I suspect you agree!! Looking forward to seeing the latest haul.xx.

  56. You are a fricken homing missile woman! I don't know how you do it, but I am seriously impressed. It's gorgeous, someone else is going to be squealing with excitement when they finally get it in the post. It does look gorgeous on you, but you have a massive wardrobe which also looks amazing, so holidays all the way!

  58. This outfit is beautiful on you Vix - I love seeing you in a shorter style (though you rock every look) - the dress is flowy perfection (keep it! Ok I get it) and the platforms are beauts! Your visit to the Lake District looks like a bash; wish I had more time to explore there when I was living close-by. xoxo

  60. *OOooHH Amazing find!*
It does look great on you, but yes you right about no one knowing who it was made by unless you wear it inside out. *lol*
So very very very true. I suppose that's why all the big name brands now just have their names SPLAYED across all of their clothes.

Biba was one of my first vintage loves - I would love to go back in time and go shopping there (so long as I had lots of money).

    You look gorgeous!

Oh and by the way, I hardly think not crying at a wedding makes you a disgrace. I'm not normally the soppy romantic type myself - ask anyone! :)
