There's a lot of love for pets in Blogland today with Tamera,Curtise, Krista and Melanie all sharing snaps of their cats, dogs and rabbits. It's been a while since my Hermann's tortoise, Jacob made an appearance on the blog so here he is in all his scaly glory.
My Grandparents bought him for me in 1976 when I was 10. At 36 he's still a baby.
He lives in the garden from April to the end of September and hibernates for the rest of the year, he's partial to a tickle under the chin, strawberries, Turkish rocket and fancy lettuce.
Here's me in my latest second-hand find, a groovy 1970s catsuit I found on a charity stall on the market earlier today.
Our "hippies" sign gets a lot of love. It was from a car boot sale over five years ago but you can get similar on eBay.
I'm not all dressed up and nowhere to go, I'm off to the pub in a bit.
It won't be a late one, there's a jumble sale on in the morning and I'll need a clear head for fending off the Black Country Grannies.
Polyester catsuit (£1, local council charity), 1970s turban (50p, jumble sale), Moroccan tooled leather duffel bag (£2, car boot sale), Velvet platforms (£9, Office sale 2011) |
Have a fabulous weekend!
See you soon.
PS Thanks for your concern, my eye's loads better today and I promise to go to the Docs if it doesn't go away.

I am so intriqued with Jacob....
ReplyDeleteeven your turtle is from the 70s!!!
Or you could ask me- I'm an ophthalmologist and devoted reader tho' I live a bit far away (Kolkata)!
ReplyDeleteOh Jacob is gorgeous! I adore tortoises they are such lovely creatures, they have a gentleness about them which appeals greatly.
ReplyDeleteI saw Tamera's post this morning, and that combined with my frock, set me off on my kitty theme!
ReplyDeleteHair's looking great, Vix! So is the eye of doom. And bloody hell, the rest of you isn't half bad either!
That's a bargain of a jumpsuit, and oh you do rock a turban. LOVE that massive pendant too.
Haven't seen pics of Jacob for ages, time the reptiles got some respect among all these mammals! Give him a chin tickle and some posh lettuce from me.
Have a good evening, hope the jumble proves fruitful tomorrow! xxxxxxx
I was scrolling down, la,la, la, gorgeous, and then, brakes, those velvet boots with that outfit? Oooo. That's a shopstopper for sure! You look great in every detail. No hotpants today so I am glad your eye is feeling better. Your leopard nails are awesome purring among the blues.
ReplyDeleteYou have a 36 year old tortoise named Jacob. My oh my, you are full of surprises. He's amazing. Please feed him a strawberry for me! Have fun tonight and at the sale tomorrow. Be easy on those grannies! (lol, I'm sure you are).
ReplyDeleteJacob is stunning!! I adore turtles/tortoises and have raised several from hatching!!
ReplyDeleteI told Curtise we should have a blogger "show your pusssies day"--wouldn't that get some stuffy peoples knickers in a twist!!!
Love the outfit--they wore their pants tucked into their boots and bloused like that on the 1973 SoulTrain episode recently.
Good lucK against the grannies tomorrow. Glad to hear your eye is better!
Give Jacob a rub for me!! And pet those kitties!!

ReplyDeleteHad to shout my son Riley in to show him Jacob's pictures and tell him how old Jacob is, as he's been begging us for a tortoise for years, he loves them. I might give in this Christmas though we're already overcrowded here and Pat wants to get chickens too. Glad your eye is feeling better Vix, love those boots with that jumpsuit and your gorgeous nails, have a good night down the pub! xx

ReplyDeleteI'll have to show this post to my little brother (though I imagine it will be the first 3 photos he scrutinises most closely). He's a Hermann devotee too - he has a one year old teeny tortoise that will be hibernating for the first time this year. How appropriate that even your pet is retro Seventies!

What a cute creature! And a great pet for kids, since they have long life spans. My sister had one once and it "escaped." REally? He just "ran" away? suspicious. You have just inspired me to go paint my nails. I need a turquoise color like that.

Thank you for showing us Jacob. That's a lovely close-up portrait of him. It's wonderful that he has found such a loving home. Give him an extra tickle and strawberry for me.
ReplyDeleteGlad your eye has improved. Have a great time at the pub.
Smashing catsuit, a fitting outfit for today's pet theme.
I loved Gayle's comment that even your tortoise is from the 70s - too true! :) The most appropriate pet ever!
ReplyDeleteThis outfit is awesome - you look fabulous. The hippies sign made me laugh, and I love the buddha (?) I wish there were car boot sales like yours here in NZ. Perhaps without the toothless skinheads selling illegal porn though! Hope you have a great weekend, and if your eye is not better please go to the doctors ?
ReplyDeletexx

ReplyDeleteHi Vix,
ReplyDeleteI found your blog thru janet at gardeners cottage. I saw Jacob and enjoyed knowing that he is 36 yrs old. Yesterday I met a woman in a small park that has been bringing her rescued box turtle "Sammie" to that park for years. He was quite funny and determined to head a certain area even though she turned him around to keep him in the grass, at least a dozen times. I told her about your blog and your tortoise. She might contact you. I think she said that she thinks he is some 30 some years old also.
jessica
You do rock a catsuit and a turban like no other! And what a cute tortoise - 36 and he's a baby? Wow!
ReplyDeleteWow, Jacob is amazing. Tortoises live for a really long time, don't they? I think it's so cool that he just hangs in your yard. Where does he go when he hibernates, inside or does he stay out?
ReplyDeleteLove your look here; the pantsuit (and a pound, get out!) totally rocks. xoxo
i love that fact that your turtle is from one of your favorite decades!
ReplyDeletexo
I love Jacob! And I LOVE YOU in this fabulous outfit so much - the jumpsuit tucked into boots is the first look I can ever remember 'getting' as a kid... the first look I ever wanted to emulate... and here's you ROCKING THE CRAP out of this old favourite! YOU LOOK AMAZING! I love the turban too - and the exquisite jewellery. Love you more than the 70s, Sarah xxx
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear the eye's healed up, nothing as bad when the sun's out! The Little Match Girl, sob! What a read, it broke my heart when I was little. Thankfully, the beauty of those tapestry boots has helped from slumping into misery thinking about that most unfortunate of children's literature characters xxx
ReplyDeleteAMAZING outfit!! And your tortoise is gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteL x
Very nice post thanks for sharing the blog and keep on updating the blog.
