Rumble In The Jumble

Remember my hand-made striped orange bell-bottoms from last week?

I liked them but they weren't making my heart skip a beat, so I added a little something extra ...

Now I'm frilled with them! Bell Bottom Blues no more. Don't ask me how I did it, I made it up as I went along and probably couldn't repeat the fabulous frilly hem if I tried.

Hindu pendant (50p, car boot sale)

 (Stones badge from Clare)
Happy Birthday, Mick!

Dragon ring from Krista

What's this, chipped Barry M nail paint again? That's because I've been jumbling and car booting today and rummaging like my life depended on it.

Wanna see what I got?

Clockwise from top left: 1930s Garstin of England leather travelling wardrobe case, 1960s suede jerkin, Italian Raffia handbag, Papa's gotta brand new bag, retro saucepan (to match our existing set), 3 x 1970s patterns, Kitsch rose decal, 3 x 1960s paperbacks, Emerald green Shantung silk, Large tin filled with handmade & retro costume jewellery, 1970s chopping board, novelty cow tow bar, rabbit decal, Australia souvenir scarf, vintage 70s fake fur jacket, rabbit decal, 1960s fake fur jacket

(The most expensive buy was the suede jerkin at a whopping £3 each, the rest was £2 or less)

Was I too hot in my acetate catsuit? You do make me giggle. It's 28 degrees here, pleasantly warm but hardly comparable to pre-Monsoon Goa in April.

Made-by-me bell bottom pants (using a 1969 pattern from Tamera), retro Richard Shops denim waistcoat (courtesy of Ronnie), 1970s silk Indian-made camisole (50p, Cancer Research), 1980s Country Casuals suede belt (50p, Age UK)
I've just discovered a bottle of pear cider that had wedged itself behind the freezer, a fine accompaniment to Team GB's Olympic footie match later.

See you soon!

  5. Vix you are a hard core sun worshipper is all I can say. Blimey I am stiffled in this pleasantly warm heat! lol. Mind I am by nature a winter girl at heart.

Love the way the bottoms frill out like that.

Looks like you got a great haul today. Love the flower and rabbit decals too cute.

  6. Vix you made these pants even more fabulous then they already were, how do you do that?!!!! I love the frilly bottoms and all your beautiful arm candy! I am dying at how inexpensive faux fur is there. I just spotted a floor length leopard coat at our goodwill and it was $50! I wanted it but no way am I paying that!!!! I think I will have more fun rummaged through all your treasury that any jumble sale!

I wish I could bring your beautiful beachy self with me to play in San Diego, we would have a blast on the beach and later slurping down tons of delicious cocktails. I'm bringing the book you are in to show off to all of my family and friends so they can see the most wonderful woman I am traveling so far to see. I can't wait to hold your hand and skip drunkenly on those cobblestone roads.

  9. The Fabulous Frills (wouldn't that be a good band name??) really do give the pants a needed punch. Excellent idea! I am soooo jealous of your amazingly cheap thrifting finds. So much furry, leather, suede and flowery goodness.

  10. Ooh I love a frilly bottom! You are inspired, as always, Vix, the trousers DO look like they needed an extra bit of something special, though I didn't realise it till you added the bell bottom frills.
Great jumble/car boot finds, fabulous faux furs, and I love that raffia bag. What are your plans for the green silk? Whatever you do with it, I know it will be fabulous!
I would definitely melt in the heat of Goa in April, I am a pale and freckly sort who can't cope with hot temperatures. But isn't it nice to see some sun?! xxxxx

  11. Geez, if I came to visit you I'd have to rent a barge to ship every thing back home. You certainly live in a gold mine where you are, seriously. I love those fur jackets. I'm on the hunt for one myself for this upcoming Fall/Winter. I had a burgundy one years ago but for some reason gave it away.
Fantastic job on those bells! And, did you enjoy groovin' on the DJ Krush? ;)

As for you post heading rumble in the jumble, I thought straight way you might of had a fight with someone over a jumble score. I wouldn't of even been surprised had you, your haul is awesome. My heart skipped a beat over the saucepan thinking it may have been a fondue set, which. Is on my wish list. Happy cooking with your pot.

  23. Wowsers, love the frilly bottoms too. PS. I'm reading Keith Richards' autobiog at the mo and I've just got to the bit where he says that he used to cut up his trousers and embellish them just the way you said he did in a previous post. I was very excited when I read that! I know, I need to get out more. xx

LOVE the bell bottom re-do!!! I made pants similar to those in Home Economics when I was 12. Awesome bright colored early 70's print that said "love" and "peace" and the "ruffle" started right below the knee. How I loved them and wore them to death!! You are rocking them!!

Those rabbit decals you found look eerily familiar to me - I've got a feeling something very like them were on my sister's cot when she was a baby.

Unbelievably fabulous finds - as always.

  29. Curtise said you would look fabulous in the ruffled and fringed flares I posted by Pakistani designer Shamaeel Ansari. And here you are with Vix-designed striped and ruffled flares. You give Pakistani haute couture a run for its money. Love the cutting board and the decals. Are all vintage goods in the U.K shipped to your local car boot sales. There seems to be a never-ending supply!
