We're off to another festival in the morning and I still haven't packed. Planning a wardrobe for a weekend away in the UK takes more of an effort than packing a bag for a month in India.
A severe weather warning's been issued for torrential rain and flooding in Staffordshire (precisely where we're headed) tomorrow. Taking a maxi dress is probably a tad optimistic but I shall squeeze one in, just on the off-chance that the BBC's got it all wrong.
No panic, it'll all come together in the end.
My definite pile includes a trusty 1970s fake fur jacket (£2, car boot sale), these hand-made hot pants (see HERE), my trademark Indian gypsy jewellery and a tooled leather shoulder bag (see HERE).
They'll be flowers for my hair, tons of funky jewellery and some huge sunglasses, too.
Fat chance of giving these original wooden platform wedges another airing, it's wellies all the way this weekend!
A wiser woman would have spent yesterday packing her bags rather than making this paisley smock dress from Tamera's 1973 Simplicity pattern and the retro fabric I found in Cancer Research last week for 50p. Oh well, I never did claim to be very practical.
Have a fantastic weekend whatever you get up to and if you haven't heard from me by Monday night send a canoe in the direction of Weston Park.
PS If you get a chance try & watch The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel , we saw it last night and loved it!
everytime I read , and see your pictures of post I have to slap myself ! Have fun at the festival!

The rain does nothing to me no more, before I used to stay home and say to Buddy ~ Nahh its raining~.
Have fun at the festival amor!
Oh you are a past master (mistress?) at packing, Vix, and you've been to enough festivals in bloody British summertime to know just what you need to be comfortable, super-stylish and totally glamorous! So I have NO worries that you will make excellent decisions and have a fabulous time!
ReplyDeleteLove your little smock dress, you are sewing up a storm at the moment. And I've enjoyed spotting my favourite things in your wardrobe, I see a fair few prints I recognise on that rail!
Have fun this weekend - you can swim, you'll be OK! xxxxxxx
Hello, beautiful lady!
ReplyDeleteI can not believe how great it's your wardrobe! I die for these colorful prints! And your platform sandals are my style, divine. You look very nice that blue mini dress. Bon voyage! Enjoy it.
Also ... I have almost completed your box! I need to include another little thing I'll get this weekend, and go! I will send by Correo Argentino, I hope you get everything ok.
The blog that I like to spend, it's your blog. The funniest and most original fashion blog :)
(Thanks, Google translator, haha!)
XOXO!

Have a lovely time! I hope the weather isn't too bad for you xx
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely time! I just packed for the weekend at Mike's and that was tough enough and I'm inside. I'm sure you'll manage to look stunning no matter what this stupid weather is doing! Can't believe you whipped up that pretty dress so quickly!

I love it that you can look this picturesque and beautiful heading into a weekend of possible torrential rain and flooding, the optimism in you could save the world!!! There is so much in that closet that has me wanting more but I can hardy focus on that when here you amaze me again with another beautiful creation. The dress is sweet and I love how you funk it up with those to die for shoes!!!
ReplyDeletePlease only drown yourself in cider! Thank goodness for those wellies, you got them just in time. Have a blast regardless. Sorry we didn't connect yesterday it was very late when I called Lucy.

Such a cute dress.
ReplyDeleteHave a fab time x
Another great sewing creation! Enjoy the festival xx
ReplyDeleteJust heard from SIL that torrential rain is due tomorrow too, (just for a change) but no doubt you are more than equipped to deal with it. After a few pints of cider you won't even notice the mud. V.impressed with your sewing skills and love the smock which co-ordinates perfectly with beaded necklace. Had a trawl around the local chazza's today but alas came home empty handed.
ReplyDeleteHave a fab weekend Vix. xxx
Dress is gorge! Hope the rain stays away for the festival x
ReplyDeleteLayers of things that will dry easily and wellies are probably the essentials for the weekend - here's hoping the forecast is wrong - have a great time :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fab frock Vix, perfect colour to show off a tan too. Our British summer is crazy you cant leave the house without three different outfits!! Nice to have a nosy in your wardrobe xx
ReplyDeleteLove the sneaky look in your wardrobe. What a great dress you have made.
ReplyDeleteHave fun at the festival. We are off to Wimbledon this weekend.
Let's hope the weather turns out much better than the forecast. Hope you have a fabulous weekend whether the heavens open or not. Fab-U-lous smock dress BTW, and I love the beaded pendant you're wearing with it.
ReplyDeleteOh Vix! I do hope one of your festivals is bright and sunny. This year's horrible, but at least the weather never dampens your spirit or your sense of style. Xx
ReplyDeleteBikinis, plastic mac and wellies should do it, possibly water wings....?
ReplyDeleteOh your wardrobe is SOOOOOOO exciting!!! I love it. Have a lovely time! Canoes are poised!
ReplyDeleteThe heck with the rain! Have a blast!
ReplyDeleteWonderful frock, Vix...you are a sewing minx! I love those shoes so much.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous time, come rain or shine.
xxxxxx
Your wardrobe is so whimsical!
ReplyDeleteI really love that little frock - its very sweet and the necklace works perfectly with it.
I do hope there isn't too much rain - or if there is a lot that its warm so the rain doesn't matter too much.
Such lovely summery shoes - they look very comfortable too.
I think you're a huge fibber. It must only take you a minute to pack for festivals, you're so experienced.
ReplyDeleteHave a great time
Caroline
Xxx
But you are practical! That dress looks perfect for a wet and (if it's anything like here) muggy weekend - lightweight and quick dry. Good shout on the hot pants too - with legs like yours you'll rock them. I'm also hoping the Beeb are wrong - I'm at an outdoor food fest tomorrow evening and fancy a dry one! Fat chance...x
ReplyDeleteps - shoes are awesome!
ReplyDeleteloved, Loved, LOVED the ....Marigold Hotel (and thought of you when we saw it several weeks ago, by the way)!
ReplyDeleteThe mini dress is sweet. And I'm sure you'll figure out an amazing wardrobe to pack into those WONderful suitcases!
Those wedges are to die for!
ReplyDeleteAnd that's a great little dress!
I can't believe the amount of sewing you have been turning out.

and I too thought of you and Jon.
Have my fingers crossed for good weather for you.
I've loved that fabric when I watched it, but now I'm loving your pretty dress, so fresh and summery (and it has pockets!!)
ReplyDeleteAnd wish you enjoy your weekend with your own sunny attitude!
besos
So you are having a NON summer like we had. Such a bugger when you have a festival to go to and want summer weather. I am convinced you will have fun no matter what tho and what ever you take will be outstanding. Have a grand time.
ReplyDeleteI love that dress. Who wants to be wise when you can create beauties like that instead. I love the little peeks we get into your wardrobe and your fabulous retro luggage. The turquoise and pink makeup is fab too.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a happy and (relatively) dry weekend
xxx
well Vix if anyone can handle bad weather it is you!! and I am sure you have something fabulous to weather it out in ~Have a Blast this weekend Love Heather
ReplyDeletePeering into other people's closets is always interesting and once again I loved taking a peek at all the colours and funky patterns in yours! I love the wooden platforms, they're amazing indeed!
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain about the weather- it almost feels like tropical weather sometimes, really grey, thunderstorms and really muggy! I'm hating it this year. I demand my money back, this is not the Summer I ordered!
Good luck at the festival- I hope it's not too wet (yah right). At least wet or not, I hope you have a load of fun!
It's 1940s weekend at Attingham Park, so no doubt we will go to that. I have more 40s stuff than is strictly necessary, so it is good if it sees the light of day.
ReplyDeleteHappy festival-going!
Cheers,
Rosemary www.foreveronthecatwalkoflife.com
Hope you have a fab time stay safe (and stylish, as always!) X
ReplyDeleteHope you have a fantastic time and the sun shines even just for a little while so you can give your dress an outing :-) Happy weekend!
ReplyDeletehope the weather behaves for you! We have a 70s dress up for my aunty and uncle's 40th birthday. Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteYou Brits need another name for the season you call 'Summer.' It bears no relation to summers elsewhere :)
ReplyDeleteYour closet is a kaleidoscope of color and pattern! There's a purple and orange print dress that I would love to get a better look at.
Again, totally impressed with your dressmaking skills. Lovely little dress.
Have a great time at Camper Jam (hope doesn't turn into Damp-er Jam).
You look extra, extra gorgeous today.
ReplyDeleteHave fun at the music fest.

Have so much fun Vix!!!!!!!
Doh! Missed you. Never mind, I know you'll have a blast. I had to laugh at Joyatri's comment - we need another name for Summer. We certainly do this year!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I love your dress and hot pants. You are really inspiring me to sew, if I can just pluck up the confidence. In fact, I may have a look for some material this weekend. And the wedges are utterly wonderful, even if you can only wear them indoors.
Annie xxx
Such an organised wardrobe! Mine needs reorganising, desperately!
ReplyDeleteWe had the loudest, most rumbliest thunder in the early morning - it was awesome! I left the bedroom window open last night so it was nice and relaxing hearing the rain fall, although quite torrential!
Have a fab time at the festival and I hope you get one good day of sunshine! I'm off to Glastonbury for a week on Monday! Yippee!! xxx

Have a wonderful time!!
Tamera
ooh good luck out there....you are brave!!x
ReplyDeleteI'm sure that you will have fun no matter the weather. Whipping up a dress before you leave seems practical to me, although I wouldn't even give it a try. But I would love to have a pair of those platform wedges!
ReplyDeleteReally hope the weather improves for you! I know you'll have a great time whatever the weather, though! You'll be looking amazing anyway x
ReplyDeleteI saw the movie last night too! It was so good! I'm totally swooning even more now over India- all the colors and fabrics! It was a nice story too. Love your platforms!!
ReplyDeleteVix, that blue dress. I WANT IT! It's gorgeous. And I am very much wanting to watch The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, have been waiting for it to come out on DVD xx
ReplyDeleteYour new handmade dress looks so fresh and fun. Am totally jealous of those cases, but the red one has won my heart hands down. Hope the weather is cooperating for the festival.
ReplyDeleteEverything about you is almost surreal. You're breathtakingly beautiful, your hair is stunning, your outfits (like this blue dress) are always magical. Your luggage: so jealous. And your life is like a movie. :)

I hope the weather doesn't turn out too bad for you! I love the pile of things in your must pack pile - those hot pants are amazing, and I'm incredibly jealous of that tooled leather bag.
ReplyDeleteIt's so awesome that you get all of these new vintage pieces by making them for yourself =)
ReplyDeletePacking for festivals is tough business! You have to pack for about 5 different types of weathers.
Joyus wardrobe, I really am impressed you make sense of it all- I'd be dazzled *_____*~ but I suppose when it's all your own stuff it has it's way!
