On The Road Again

We're off to another festival in the morning and I still haven't packed. Planning a wardrobe for a weekend away in the UK takes more of an effort than packing a bag for a month in India.

A severe weather warning's been issued for torrential rain and flooding in Staffordshire (precisely where we're headed) tomorrow. Taking a maxi dress is probably a tad optimistic but I shall squeeze one in, just on the off-chance that the BBC's got it all wrong.

What do I choose?

.....and what on earth shall I pack it in?

No panic, it'll all come together in the end.

My definite pile includes a trusty 1970s fake fur jacket (£2, car boot sale), these hand-made hot pants (see HERE), my trademark Indian gypsy jewellery and a tooled leather shoulder bag (see HERE).

They'll be flowers for my hair, tons of funky jewellery and some huge sunglasses, too.

Fat chance of giving these original wooden platform wedges another airing, it's wellies all the way this weekend!

A wiser woman would have spent yesterday packing her bags rather than making this paisley smock dress from Tamera's 1973 Simplicity pattern and the retro fabric I found in Cancer Research last week for 50p. Oh well, I never did claim to be very practical.

Have a fantastic weekend whatever you get up to and if you haven't heard from me by Monday night send a canoe in the direction of Weston Park.

PS If you get a chance try & watch The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel , we saw it last night and loved it!

  8. Oh you are a past master (mistress?) at packing, Vix, and you've been to enough festivals in bloody British summertime to know just what you need to be comfortable, super-stylish and totally glamorous! So I have NO worries that you will make excellent decisions and have a fabulous time!

Love your little smock dress, you are sewing up a storm at the moment. And I've enjoyed spotting my favourite things in your wardrobe, I see a fair few prints I recognise on that rail!
Have fun this weekend - you can swim, you'll be OK! xxxxxxx

  9. Hello, beautiful lady!

Also ... I have almost completed your box! I need to include another little thing I'll get this weekend, and go! I will send by Correo Argentino, I hope you get everything ok.
The blog that I like to spend, it's your blog. The funniest and most original fashion blog :)

There is so much in that closet that has me wanting more but I can hardy focus on that when here you amaze me again with another beautiful creation. 17. Just heard from SIL that torrential rain is due tomorrow too, (just for a change) but no doubt you are more than equipped to deal with it. After a few pints of cider you won't even notice the mud. V.impressed with your sewing skills and love the smock which co-ordinates perfectly with beaded necklace. Had a trawl around the local chazza's today but alas came home empty handed.
Have a fab weekend Vix. xxx

  23. Oh Vix! I do hope one of your festivals is bright and sunny. This year's horrible, but at least the weather never dampens your spirit or your sense of style. Xx

I really love that little frock - its very sweet and the necklace works perfectly with it.

I do hope there isn't too much rain - or if there is a lot that its warm so the rain doesn't matter too much.

Such lovely summery shoes - they look very comfortable too.

  29. I think you're a huge fibber. It must only take you a minute to pack for festivals, you're so experienced.

  30. But you are practical! That dress looks perfect for a wet and (if it's anything like here) muggy weekend - lightweight and quick dry. Good shout on the hot pants too - with legs like yours you'll rock them. I'm also hoping the Beeb are wrong - I'm at an outdoor food fest tomorrow evening and fancy a dry one! Fat chance...x

  35. I love that dress. Who wants to be wise when you can create beauties like that instead. I love the little peeks we get into your wardrobe and your fabulous retro luggage. The turquoise and pink makeup is fab too.

  37. Peering into other people's closets is always interesting and once again I loved taking a peek at all the colours and funky patterns in yours! I love the wooden platforms, they're amazing indeed!

I feel your pain about the weather- it almost feels like tropical weather sometimes, really grey, thunderstorms and really muggy! I'm hating it this year. I demand my money back, this is not the Summer I ordered!

Good luck at the festival- I hope it's not too wet (yah right). At least wet or not, I hope you have a load of fun!

  38. It's 1940s weekend at Attingham Park, so no doubt we will go to that. I have more 40s stuff than is strictly necessary, so it is good if it sees the light of day.

    Happy festival-going!

  42. You Brits need another name for the season you call 'Summer.' It bears no relation to summers elsewhere :)
Your closet is a kaleidoscope of color and pattern! There's a purple and orange print dress that I would love to get a better look at.
Again, totally impressed with your dressmaking skills. Lovely little dress.

Have a great time at Camper Jam (hope doesn't turn into Damp-er Jam).

  53. Doh! Missed you. Never mind, I know you'll have a blast. I had to laugh at Joyatri's comment - we need another name for Summer. We certainly do this year!

Anyway, I love your dress and hot pants. You are really inspiring me to sew, if I can just pluck up the confidence. In fact, I may have a look for some material this weekend. And the wedges are utterly wonderful, even if you can only wear them indoors.

We had the loudest, most rumbliest thunder in the early morning - it was awesome! I left the bedroom window open last night so it was nice and relaxing hearing the rain fall, although quite torrential!

Have a fab time at the festival and I hope you get one good day of sunshine! I'm off to Glastonbury for a week on Monday! Yippee!! xxx
