Jumble, Jumble

Despite the wine and a late night spent blubbering in front of the Olympic opening ceremony I was up bright and early, queuing outside the church jumble sale at 8.30am yesterday morning ready to exchange my pennies for yet more random tat.

What did I buy? This 1970s Spinney terracotta underskirt which is far too cute to hide away under a maxi.

One of two hand-made feather head-dresses, ready for next weekend's festival frolics!

....and a mini-me version of my embroidered basket (last seen here). I moan about teenage hipsters wearing Ramones tee shirts when they can't even name a song by them and I'm almost as bad, I've got two Madeira bags and I've never even visited the island.

Not a lot but for a spend of less than a quid and a fun half-an-hour bantering with fellow bargain hunters it sure beats a morning in a soulless shopping mall flicking through racks of the same depressing old identikit clobber.

Barry M's Lemon Ice Cream worn with bangles including one from Lakota and Mrs Alnutt, rings include ones from Dee and Heather.

I found this wooden cross when I was walking along Varkala beach in Kerala,

I just hope it fell off a loved-up hippy rather than a drowned fisherman.

1970s underskirt worn with a Broderie Anglaise top I made from a jumble sale pillow case, tan leather belt (50p, Age UK) and cherry red wedges (Topshop, 2007)
Liz and Adrian are on their way round so I'm off to chuck Thursday's car boot and jumble finds in the cupboard of doom and make the place look a bit more respectable and less like an Oxfam sorting depot.

Enjoy the rest of your weekends and see you soon.

  1. Excellent finds...I love a Madeira basket. We went when I was 12 and I have one the same somewhere in my grandad's attic.
I was bootying today and you're right it beats traipsing around town looking at dull tat.
    Have a great week.

  2. Awesome finds!!! Only you could find a feather headress and make it look FABULOUS!!!

The mall is demonic--can't remember the last time I was there.

  3. 4. You look like a punk Pocahontas with plenty of attitude! Love the Madeira bag. It's totally different to stupid teenagers wearing Ramones shirts. It's all about the attitude and the kitsch value (at least you've heard of Madeira). Have a great Sunday with your pals in the sunshine xxx

  7. That really is a pretty underskirt. Wear it with pride!

Have to say I can't stand mindless wearing of a band t.shirt when it means nothing more to them than being in fashion. Ugh! I am teaching my girls the value of being themselves and enjoying cool music! lol.

Have a fab time with your friends.

  9. Another great bargainous haul there Vix!

As Lucy Nation said, the first person who came to mind when I saw your outfit was 'Pocahontas' (but obvs in a fabulous way)

Have a great time with your friends tonight.... I'm having to do a bit of a tidy-up too after yesterday's purchases. I'm going to have to get me more wardrobe space from somewhere - aaagh! xx

  10. What a great underskirt. I wouldn't want to hide it either.
Your cross necklace you found reminds me of the time I found a rosary hanging in a tree branch right over my head while I was out for a walk. What a strange place to find a treasure. I took it right home and restyled it into something a little less catholic looking.
    Love that nail polish!

  11. Fabulous finds Vix and for under a quid...can't be a bad morning's work, can it? Loving your petticoat and Hiawatha headband, you can rock that look like no other!
Couldn't agree more about the malls, just can't beat a rummage in a chazza or JS. Going for a quick tidy up myself now but first I'm going to pour myself a large Pimm's as I'm out of cider! xx Enjoy yourselves tonight.

  14. Phew I admire your staying power! After a night of enjoying the Opening Ceremony with a bottle or two, Mr EM and I slept in on Saturday morning and missed a planned outing to a vintage fair in the next county.

I love your outfit and your Madeira bags (I have one of my own) but what I really wish I had is your very enviable flat stomach!

  16. What a wonderful underskirt, good old Spinney! I agree, it's far too pretty to be hidden. You look very happy in these photos, so I reckon you enjoyed your quick rummage at the jumble sale and wearing your fabulous feathers! Your jewellery never disappoints, what a great little collection you have on today.
Have a good evening with Liz and Adrian - I'm sure they won't mind if you don't tidy up, ply them with booze and they won't even notice! xxxxx

  18. Lovely finds, I particularly like the maxi skirt. I've been looking for a nice yellow nail varnish and it's really hard to find a nice colour of yellow... but that is so nice I may have to buy a bottle. xx

  20. You look great as usual! And don't worry about feeling guilty about not having visited Madeira - you're far too young to go there. I went there a few years ago and nice as it is, it's a bit like a Portuguese version of Bournemouth :)

  21. you always find the best stuff! I often snap up souvenirs from places I've never been, you can always visit one day, not as bad as picking up a band t shirt for someone you never listen to. I love that skirt, far too pretty to be hidden away! Love your cheeky little squaw look! xxx

I'm really impressed with the pillow case top. With the beautiful embroidery, you'd think it came from an expensive store.

The nail polish is an unusual colour - my yellows are very bright - I quite love it - and of course, your bangles are all marvellous.
