Here Comes The Sun

At long last Summer's finally made an appearance and I've been able to give the parasol I picked up on my Indian adventures back in April it's maiden outing.

Let's hope it'll be out a lot more in the coming weeks.

I made this skirt this morning from a retro bed cover (last seen HERE) & a groovy 1972 McCall's dressmaking pattern kindly sent my way by Liz. Considering we started boozing just after 6pm last night I'm pretty amazed I managed to knock up anything remotely wearable.

This is the bikini top I bought on Friday, I think it's part of a fancy dress costume but in my book nothing could possibly be too fancy for everyday wear.

Barry M Turquoise worn with rings from Krista, Miss Magpie & Heather.

Bikini top (75p, Acorns Hospice), Handmade maxi skirt (made from a 70s bed cover, £1.50, car boot sale), Rajasthani parasol (£4, India)

Off to catch up with some blogs before I eat my fourth curry in as many days.
Hope your weekend have been as good as ours.
See you soon.

PS I'm featured on Janet's blog today, HERE! She's gorgeous, her house & garden are to die for, she's a vegan and loves Jack White & if you haven't met her already then you're missing out.

  2. Wonderful to have the sun, eh? And lovely and colourful you are in it too. I am very taken with the parasol. It's very pretty. Lots of the Nepalese ladies carry them here and I always think they are a great idea and a somewhat sophisticated accessory. Have a terrific week.xxxxx

  3. You've bloomed, full-on flower! I can't believe you knocked out that skirt when you were knackered. I thought that was the bikini top that you made a while ago...great find. Where are the cabana boys? Oh, wait, you've already got the best one. I hope you get drunk on that lovely, lovely sunshine. You remind me of Miss Simmonds' painting in this gorgeous attire with the parasol.

  15. I am so glad you finally get some sunshine, it sounds like summer has been very unfair to the UK this year! I love the skirt, especially the ruffle at the bottom:)

  16. Awesome umbrella. You sew really well, for someone who claims to have no skills. I supervisor theatre students in the costume class, and I'm shocked sometimes that they can't even thread a needle and have a difficult time sewing on a button! Your creations always look nicely finished.

  17. Your parasol is beautiful. I`d love to sit in the sun with a parasol.
Love your skirt too Vix. I`m going to get myself a few clothes patterns and attempt to make something to wear. Great idea to use a bed cover too.

  24. Fingers crossed that your sunshine hangs around for a reasonable length of time. I have woken up to a dreary old wet day but it is still very warm, but that makes for an uncomfortable what do I wear day!! SNAP with the brollie, my sister gave me one exactly the same for my birthday and I intend to use it when sitting at my sons cricket. Lovin' the bra top, wonder if Sue is wearing something similar in Rarotonga??

  42. "Nothing can be too fancy for everyday wear" - LOVE this ethos, what a woman you are! That bikini top is pretty special!

Loving the bedsheet-skirt - I've just posted my latest curtain dress on my blog today - some people might call it 'repurposing' or 'upcycling' but I prefer to call it making clothes out of old curtains :D xx

  43. Oooo, love the skirt! And what a fantastic bedsheet it must have been! Sometimes I find that alcohol actually improves my sewing abilities - or perhaps it just makes me think they are improved?

  52. LOVE your turquoise rings! And that parasol is so neat. It would be fabulous indoors too, in some interior design fantasy.

I think I have that same skirt pattern and sewed it up in the 70s. (Of course, I was 6 at the time!)Ha! I have no idea how you manage to sew and drink. I have a hard enough time stone cold sober!

You will look so cute taking that with you to festivals! I can't believe you made this skirt in a morning and after a late night of debauchery. You are amazing Vix and I can't wait to squeeze you in real life, I just don't know if I will ever let you go!
