Car Booty!

A strange yellow ball of fire appeared in a brilliantly blue sky today so I grabbed the first thing to hand and headed to the Thursday morning car boot sale for the first time in a fortnight.

Can you believe this 1960s number is a nightie? What a waste to keep this for the bedroom. Being drip-dry and ankle-skimming it ticks the right boxes for traipsing around a sunny but damp field at dawn - no soggy hems to drip on the beloved car interior and bright enough for Jon to spot me if I wander off.

This one's especially for Joni as she loves a gratuitous ring shot.

Day 4 of Barry M's Mint Green still without a hint of a chip. The red enamel ring & the agate chunk were bought in the 1960s by Mum. The bangle with the Hindi script from Helga, the travelling queen.

What junk did I come back with?

Clockwise from top: Psychedelic towelling make-up bag filled with 1960s theatrical & fashion make-up (25p), 12" tall plastic deer (50p), Floral fringed bed cover to remake into something groovy (£1.50), Psychedelic pin cushion complete with dressmaking pins (25p), Huge fair-trade reversible straw hat made with Madagascar with price tag still attached (£1), Handmade fringed crochet shawl from the 1970s (£1), Gent's satin backed retro waistcoat (£1), 6 x 1970s kipper ties (£1.50), 1970s Panda coin purse (20p), Shoe shapers (50p), 1950s pewter cuff (£1)

We're supposed to be out tonight but Jon's been fighting the symptoms of suspected man 'flu and the combined aromas of greasy dog burgers and knock-off designer perfume at the car boot sale have just about finished him off. Hopefully a lie-down on the settee should sort him out, I'd hate to miss band night at the pub.

St Michael nightie (£3.95, Walsall Hospice), tan cowboy boots (£2, Salvation Army), North African tooled leather bag (£1, car boot sale)
Enjoy the rest of today & see you soon.

  4. Yay, the sun is shining and Vix is car bootong - all is right with the world!
That nightie is a beauty, looks kind of Georgian, in a 1960s bri-nylon sort of way! Saw some wonderful vintage nightwear at Chesterfield today but couldn't afford it... Oh well.
Of course your bangles and rings (and Bazza!) are always beautiful, love that tooled bag, and you found an eclectic mix of booty - wonderful hat, shawl and cuff.
Hope Jon feels better by this evening - band night and a pint or two might be just what he needs! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  6. Give me it all!! I want all the stuff! The panda purse is hilarious and I thought you didn't like those deer? Imust've been mistaken - he'll look great near the wall of random. I want to come over and play with all that make up! I love your dress/nightie! It's amazing. There is something going round, not sure if it's spread to Walsall yet though so Jon may have the bubonic plague like me

  7. Love the nightdress. I don't do nightdresses at night, so impractical. I must reconsider them for the day.

My mum bought loads of shoe shapers at the vintage fair yesterday. She's obsessed with them.

  9. You look more and more beautiful with each post.
No, I can't believe the beautiful dress you're wearing was actually a night gown in 60's. I agree with you, what a waste to hide it in the bedroom.

I love vintage toys and noticed that cute little deer in the photo. I would have bought that too!

I too always enjoy your jewellery close up photos and seeing what colour nail varnish you're sporting, mine have been unvarnished for nearly a month now so I've decided that needs to be remedied immediately!

  17. Sunshine and nighties wore as dresses two things I think are pretty rad! I am so happy summer arrived and you picked a perfect dress to celebrate! I am loving the ruffle detailing at the bottom and the ring shot is looking extra pretty today. I am loving the big bangle with all the green color. That leather bag is delicious too!

I wonder if your ears have been burning because we have been talked about you my dear. I hope Jon feels better, it would be a shame to miss band night, plus you so dam good :)

  33. Aaaah, thank you for another glorious ring shot!! I'll be taking another look after I comment.
You always find the best things on your shopping excursions. I rarely see anything like it in my neck of the woods. I'm on the hunt for more maxi dresses and I refuse to wear the commercial patterns/fabrics in the new dresses.
That nightie makes a wonderful dress, good to know you could fall asleep in it and still be comfy.
Hope your hubby is revived soon.

Speaking of...Krista showed me the vintage book where you are featured- I need to buy a copy. Can you post a link on your sidebar or something for your fanatics/fans to get one? I need it!!!!

I also need a calender with you, Helga, Sarah and Desiree. Just sayin'.

  49. Didn't think I'd see you in pinstripes. But, of course, a pinstripe nightie. Why didn't I think of that.
Your mum's red enamel ring caught my eye.
Now I get why you always mention how many days your nail polish goes unscathed. I've had the same Barry M. free fuchsia on my toes for almost a week and they look as good as the first day. At this rate, this bottle will last 10 years!
