An Impromptu Trip Out

It's been a challenging couple of days to say the least. As we were up bright and early Jon suggested we pop to the Wednesday car boot sale for a spot of retail therapy as a pleasant diversion from plumbers and hospital visits.

1970s German-made suede culottes (£10, Vintage Village @ Clothes Show 2009), Bri-nylon pussybow blouse (£1.24, eBay), Suede shoeboots (£10, TopShop sale last year), 1960s nurse's belt (50p) and patchwork tote (20p, both car boot sales)

It was just about warm enough for bare arms at 8am this morning, although the wind was a bit brisk.

This 1957 Home magazine was £1, it's full of useful tips as you can see, ideas for pelmets and an invaluable lesson in lining and fitting a cutlery drawer.

Not overly keen on the curtains but I do love the dressing table stool.

How gorgeous is this playsuit?

Last time we were camping Jon forgot his ashtray and had to use one of my discarded gin & tonic cans. This Foreign Made enamelled piano pocket-sized ashtray is far more classy, don't you think? A snip at 50p.

It's well-used, the poor swan's face has worn off but I absolutely love this Stratton compact. It was £1.

This box of 1950's cocktail coasters were 50p. Perfect for my globe bar.

This boxed Lip View by Stratton was £2.

This pretty 1950s satin nightdress case was 50p. I use these for keeping my tights together in my chaotic underwear drawer.

This Denys Fisher 1970 patent-pending puzzle is ridiculously hard. It was 20p.

We were back for 10am, batteries recharged and ready to face more of the same madness.
It's my special cauliflower cheese and a quiet night in for us, maybe another boot sale in the morning, appointments and dry weather permitting.

  1. Love those culottes. I had a baffleball when I was a kid, I could do it but the noise was really irritating.

  2. Hope you're ok. I think 'baffleball' is going to be my new favourite word. 'I'm completely baffleballed at the moment'. Superb finds as always! x

  32. I hope everything is okay (Having to do with the hospital visits.)
I have a phobia of hospitals. The last time I was there was to visit my Grandma after her Knee replacement. I felt dizzy and shaky the whole time. (It really is a ridiculous phobia... but I have felt this way since I was a kid.)

Your finds are all absolutely lovley. My faves would be:
    - The 1957 magazine
    - Piano ashtray (I have never seen a thing like it!)
.... Okay I just scrolled through it all and I am going to stop with the list because I actually love everything you bought Vix. The compact the puzzle game.. ahhh its all fabulous!

I can't believe some of your finds. I wish we had daily car boot sales! In Australia they only ever happen on weekends and besides the weekly markets, they only seem to happen once a year!

  57. I'm not sure how I got so behind on your posts! Wow...you've been busy.

(I'm still not sure about the "hospital" reference...don't know if you told who/what earlier....so I'm hoping whoEVER is being treated successfullly....)

I especially liked the skirt from your prior post. The combo of the re-worn blouse with it was charming, in my opinion.

Totally fascinated by your philosophy and chic-ness. All the time - you are amazing!

If you lived closer, I'd be all over you for that piano ash tray! It would be a perfect addition to my small piano collection.
