"The clothes I wear... that doesn't change. I love long dresses. I love velvet. I love high boots. I never change. I love the same eye make-up. I'm not a fad person".
Unlike the awesome duo, Sarah & Helga, Stevie Nicks wasn't my childhood idol. Growing up in the 1970's it was Debbie Harry I adored, punky, hard-edged and unlike anyone I'd seen before. Stevie's style was similar to how my Mum dressed and Fleetwood Mac were my friends' parents musical taste, not mine. It wasn't until a few years ago when I watched a BBC documentary that I realised what I'd been missing, dug out some of Jon's vinyl and became hooked.
"I love leather and I love lace, but not necessarily together. I'm probably happiest in a long black velvet dress, black suede boots, and some kind of really beautiful wrap than I am in anything else."
"I've always liked long, flowing clothes,...I used to rummage around in my grandmother's trunks trying to find them. I love the feeling of chiffon and lace."
"I'm the original hunter-down-of-fabulous-things."
All the quotes sound scarily like me but they are actually the wise words of Stevie Nicks, thanks to my gorgeous friend Christina's in-depth research. Check out her Stevie Nicks post here for a truly astounding collection of quotes and photographs.

I hope your weekend's been wonderful. I've had an Internet-free couple of days which now means I'm woefully behind reading and commenting on my favourite blogs. On the plus side we've had the clear out of the century and we can actually shut wardrobes and drawers for the first time in months.
I'm such a huge Blondie fan, Debbie Harry was and still is so very cool... But I do love Fleetwood Mac too! I'm totally eclectic in my music tastes.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving velvet right now, I keep running searches for it on ebay, so I adore your look in these pictures, you look fabulous.
Xx
Dearest Vix,
ReplyDeleteYou look stunning in your Stevie Nicks inspired ensemble.
I did like Fleetwood Mac's music & Stevie Nicks voice but I can’t say that I was ever a devotee of her style at least not back in the day.
I was more of the early Madonna generation and I think that still echoes loudly in my style choices sometimes ;)
Only Madonna in the 80s though...the punky street Madonna!
I’ve just got back from a boot sale epic, early start at 6am & now I’m completely cream-crackared. I did come away with some pretty amazing stuff though ;)
You can now shut your wardrobes & drawers, as you know I’ve only just recently found out how good that feels, I’m genuinely thrilled for you my dear;)
Take care luv,
Jem

Great outfit. My Mum was such a Blondie fan, huge, HUGE Blondie fan that I was brought up with her being a total icon in my house. I adore her now myself. I'm coming to know more about Stevie Nicks though and she is just so chic and enduring. I love her style.
ReplyDeleteYou look terrific, as always it must be said.
I know very, very close to nothing about Ms Nicks. But my interest has been roused!
ReplyDeleteWell would you credit it, you wait ages for someone to dress like Stevie Nicks, then 3 of you come along at once!
ReplyDeleteYou so suit this look Vix, it's absolutely your style and you look amazing. The boots are essence of Stevie - a lyric in one of her songs says "I wear boots all summer long"!
By all means thrill us with a homage to Deborah Harry though - next Sunday's girl?!
PS. Well done on the clear out. Will you be having a massive Ebay sale?
The quotes do sound really like you! Stevie Nicks was, is, and always will be fabulous!x
ReplyDeleteYou and Helga look wonderful, I love your shawl I have been after a black one like that for ages, if you ever want to sell or swap other vintage items for it, I'd be well up for it.
ReplyDeleteThat hat looks lovely on you.
ReplyDeletexx
Vix I love your outfit, the hat is fab!
ReplyDeleteI love long dresses too I love the feeling of floating about.
Dx
You have great style, i love long dresses:)
ReplyDeleteHi Vix - 1982 is a 'seminal' year for me. I left school. I got a job. I had money. I bought a jumpsuit, make up and mirage by Fleetwood Mac, I love Gypsy, Diane and Hold me. Dad gave me a box of cassettes from an auction and Rumours was in there, I've been a fan since being about 12 years old. When I was young, punk passed me by and I wanted to be Stevie Nicks, I had the long spiral perm, the floaty cheesecloth, no bra, skin and bones and high heeled boots. One of the reason I love what you wear and what you blog about is Stevie Nicks. The greatest hits is my favourite walking music on the i pod! I'm off for a shower with some Fleetwood!!!!
ReplyDeleteyey to clear outs!!!! i love your hat. im a secret fleetwood mac and stevie nicks fan, secret coz my family think its weird that i care about music pre - my -age. nothing better than listening to it on vinyl tho xxxx
ReplyDeleteThe quotes totally sounds like you, and how you dress. I really like your big floppy hat with this outfit.
ReplyDeleteI adore Stevie Nicks. You, Helga and Sarah have done her proud!
ReplyDeleteThe original hunter down of fabulous things...why,that is you!
xxx
really amazing how the quotes sounds like you :) and your outfit here is divine, really elegant and hippie-tastic pics of you, my dear! congrats for cleaning out your wardrobe ;)
ReplyDeleteI have fond memories of listening to Stevie Nicks as a child. My parents, aunt and late uncle would play her records when they got ready for a night out (my cousin Sarah was named in her honour, my uncle lost the draw to call her Stevie!). They used to get together a couple of times per year and have a ball. The smell of Opium perfume and cigarettes, the sound of laughter and Stevie Nicks equalled happiness. Incidentally, my mum and aunt love your blog and often say "we had that dress!". These pictures are brilliant, along with the quotes they sum up an image, lifestyle and attitude which by no means you should (or could) ever change.
ReplyDeleteI love Stevie Nicks. She is the anti-madonna. She knows who she is and what she likes and has unashamedly stood by it all her adult life I'd love to see her live
ReplyDeleteI love the quotes i thought they were yours to until you said ;-) Sounds like you have had a great weekend its always so good for the soul after a clear out ;-) I love your hat today its a stunner and really suits you. Have a great week, dee xx
ReplyDeleteYou look amazing as always Vix.. I love this look.. like you I was a Debbie Harry fan.. altho I always wanted to be a hippy too.. .slightly confused even then xx
ReplyDeleteLooking incredible again Vix!
ReplyDeleteI must admit to being a fan of fleetwood mac, but a little like you I didn't really get into them untill my later years. The fact that in our house we listen to all sorts of music is quite nice.
Adore your hat.
X x
Love the Stevie Nicks hat! And what have you done with all the stuff you've cleared out?
ReplyDeleteOh dear I feel very young and ignorant but I always assumed Stevie Nicks was a BOY! (sorry Stevie). I love your hat though, lots of nice hats about in blogland today! xx
ReplyDeleteWoohoo,Stevie eat your heart out!!! Freakin' awesome tribute, darl, you've got the LOOK!Love all those quotes;I do lovehow she has never deviated from her signature look!!!

Such a gorgeous outfit, you look lovely
ReplyDeleteI love Stevie Nicks, she's so stunning and I love the fact that she had her own signature look
Your blog is incredible
Lovely dress Vix! Everytime i hear Fleetwood Mac it reminds me of sitting on a beach in wales with my best friend, our tape player and a bottle of merrydown cider :) xxx
ReplyDeleteDearest Vix, you look amazing! I love this look on you.
ReplyDeleteLike you I was into Debbie Harry and only got into Stevie Nicks later.
I'm still catching up, it's going to take me a while yet. Well done on your clear out. It's such a great feeling when it's done.
Love you loads xx
Wow you look so good, the quotes are fantastic. Like you I loved Blondie. I wasn't as into stevie Nicks or Fleetwood Mac but somehow I still know all the lyrics when I hear them on the car radio. Memory is funny like that, xx Katherine
ReplyDeleteThe quotes really sound like you. Love the outfit.
ReplyDeleteI would've picked you for more rock'n'roll than Stevie Nicks, but there you go. You've captured the look perfectly, of course-as if you could do otherwise! Bravo on the clear-out, sounds like it took a while!!
ReplyDeleteI've very recently been getting in to Stevie Nicks, especially her style! I think this outfit is very her and i do wish i had that dress and shawl, they look great together!
ReplyDeletexxxx
You have nailed the look...and on stage she knows how to use it for effect. I read somewhere that she first began dressing this way after being inspired by a fan in her audience!
ReplyDeleteHow I love velet lace and lether how I love the clothes you wear How I wish you lived closer so you could dress me too.
ReplyDeleteHow I wish I could raid your wardrobe xxx
Ooh you are a tricker! You look just beautiful in your Stevie-inspired outfit (and much less goth than I look!). I love your frock, amor.
ReplyDeleteSarah xxx
Is that ribbon in your hair? I love it. You cleaned out your closets...would have loved if you had a yard sale. I would have caught the first flight over.
ReplyDeleteI looove this post! As you know, I march to the beat of my own fashion drums too. I love and respect that about you so much. The best part of you following your Stevie inspired look is that no one...and I mean NO ONE can pull off a velvet dress like you. I swear it was made for you! The hat, shawl, feather extension...just everything makes you look like a dream! I always love your style and how you know exactly what you like and are bold enough to follow your passion. You seriously rock! Hearts, Janna Lynn
ReplyDeleteHey Vix!
ReplyDeleteFIRSTLY thankyou so much for my little unexpected parcel...you rock!! Love the sunnies!!!
Secondly, WOW you look amazing, I love Stevie Nicks esp her Fleetwood Mac era, she is the original rocky-grunge glam-boho queen. You're doing her proud here in your gorgeous outfit. And yes all those quotes sound like they could have come right out of your mouth!!!
Much love xxxxxxxx
That is very much a Stevie ensemble and I l.o.v.e. the dress - very elegant (and in my favourite colour!).
ReplyDeleteI've been into Stevie for a long time, although I got into her solo music first rather than Fleetwood Mac. I'd love to have a browse through her wardrobes, she must have some amazing vintage clothes. I remember reading somewhere that she used to have her boots custom made for her with mega-high heels and made out of velevet, suede or satin - sounds like my kinda gal!
xxx
Great quotes. I love your maxi dress!
ReplyDeleteJulia @ Retro Jules
Vintage false eyelashes?! :O!
ReplyDeleteLove love LOVE Stevie Nicks. Her solo album Rock A Little is among my favourites of all time. You're right, Vix - a lot of her quotes sound just like you! x
ReplyDeleteAwesome outfit! My mum met the band 2 years ago (the joy of working for a luxury hotel!) and got tickets for their show, so I got to go along and party in VIP seats, was v fun! She does have an amazing style, altho I reckon I'd get bored of the same thing after a while... :)
ReplyDeleteYay for Stevie Nicks! Love her, though I can't imagine never changing your style...
ReplyDeleteThe pale pink hat with your long black dress and luxuriant black wrap - stunning.
ReplyDeleteI saw her new video and recently and it's so evident she sticks to what she likes and has a wonderful iconic style.
ReplyDeleteI love reading about her and the music of course!
It's so funny coming round to your parents tastes, I used to hate reggae terribly but how could I it's amazing!
Love the feathers peeking out under the hat! Nice post =)
I love Stevie Nicks look and also love her. Your velvet dress is amazing, I do see Stevies strengh in you amor.
ReplyDeleteI am obsessed with velvet vintage creppy dresses.
I have been to busy myself cleaning out my closet and giving to charity too.
hugs
I adore Stevie Nicks. I have always loved Fleetwood Mac, but didn't listen to any solo Stevie until my older friend at uni gave me one of his albums. Glad you've seen the light ;) xx
ReplyDeleteLooking beautiful as ever, and totally rocking that hat - fabulous! Scarlett x
ReplyDeleteI was just about to talk about her in an upcoming post! Collective consciousness to the max, here! You look great. I adore Fleetwood Mac ;-)
ReplyDeletestrawberry freckleface
My friend is OBSESSED with stevie nicks! Actually you two are very similar, both in looks and personality. You really suit that luxe bohemian look.
ReplyDeleteI'm off to check out the quotes
xxx
I love love your pale pink hat with black.......you look fabulous......I so want a hat that colour!
ReplyDeleteYou were MADE for that Stevie Nicks look! Or more like it, it was made for you, it's superb.
ReplyDeleteI love the flowing lines and hippy looks. I'm a big Fleetwood Mac fan too- it reminds me of my childhood, listening to the tunes on holiday or in the (Daschsun Sunny, natch) car!
Ugh I'm soo behind on blog reading too! I've never got into Stevie - must check some out.... xx
ReplyDeleteLoving that hat and the Regency style black velvet! I do like nice velvet like that but tend to avoid it as I used to have a lovely black velvet concert dress which when combined with white cats equalled DISASTER!
ReplyDeleteThose quotes do sound a lot like you! :) Would check out the link now. Looking good as always!

Good lawd, you are just too fabulous! That dress looks amazing & I love the hat. I'm a Debbie Harry fan too! My Mum always found it amusing that I ended up loving Debbie Harry, because Debbie was one of her idols growing up. Mum actually got to meet her once - one of her boyfriends played in a band that supported her on an Australian tour!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous! That dress is stunning! I'm in love with that crochet shawl of yours! Beautiful! xxx
ReplyDeleteSuch a mega impact outfit! The dress is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI love Stevie Nicks and I adore that pink hat - the shape and colour are perfect. xx
ReplyDeleteI loved Stevie and Debbie...split personality?
ReplyDeleteIf Stevie saw you in this outfit, she'd be proud!
[I swear I commented on this post!]
ReplyDeleteI'm a Debbie fan myself... the epitome of sexycool... Kate Moss before Kate Moss existed!
You look oh so divine and I'm getting a strong Kate Bush vibe!! I love Kate Bush!
I have two skirts which are different variations on the same skirt Stevie had (she had a few variations too) which is by an American brand called 'Vixxen' - funnily enough! They always seemed to have used off-cuts and did patchwork skirts and tops.
ReplyDeleteI'm all about the Stevie. I nearly fell down the stairs at the back of the Hard Rock Cafe in London once because Stevie's long black dress was up on a wall and I was transfixed....
xx
