It's been peeing it down all weekend which put paid to our usual Saturday morning car boot sale, but our shopping plans weren't completely ruined, there was a choice of five jumble sales instead. As well as some rather fabulous vintage clothing I also managed to snaffle a heap of nylon sleepwear. After a hasty afternoon washing marathon I couldn't wait to try some of it out.
I never wear anything in bed but can't resist the lure of a flimsy vintage nightie for flouncing around in on a Sunday morning, it makes me come over all Babs Windsor straight out of a saucy Carry On film.
It makes me happy to think that behind the tight perms and prim blouses the pensioners helping out at the church jumble sale once wore baby doll nighties like this one.
This peach nightie with a shirred bodice and cape sleeves is pretty enough to wear as a sun dress in Goa.
This 1950's see-thru' beauty is a stunner.
This St Michael nightie and peignoir set is lovely but the Brentford Nylons quilted housecoat nearly had me shedding tears of joy. My Mum had one of these in both hot pink and purple when I was a little girl growing up in the 1960's.
I even managed to find a 1940's lingerie envelope to keep my finds in.
I'll show you more of my jumbo haul tomorrow.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend. I'm looking forward to The Apprentice final later, the wine's already chilling and I've put an order in for one of Jon's famous veggie pizzas.

ReplyDeleteYou are such a boudior babe! Had a good laught at the reference to the Carry On films. What an amazing nightie collection! - I love that first white one with the detailed bodice and I adore those marabou trimmed slippers!
ReplyDeleteWhat a stunner you are Vix!
ReplyDeleteI adore the first one. It would look fab as a dress.
My mom also had a house coat like that too. Baby pink it was, my nans was green similar to that one.
I've promised to take my youngest car booting next weekend weather permitting. She's really getting into her thrifing. So I may be asking your advise where is best in the midlands.
Enjoy the apprentice, were all looking forward to it too.
X x
You have some amazing finds there again! I love the 1st one and it could definitely make a fab festival dress. Stunning!
ReplyDeleteAaaahh, can you make pic 1 your new header, Vix? I love it so much it puts a huge smile on my face.
ReplyDeleteWe've been totally washed out here, too. Which gave me time to knit a skirt (there's an upside to everything).
xxx
A woman after my own heart you are a stunner. Love the nylon gear!
ReplyDeleteYou look fabulous Vix! I love the white sheer 1950s number. I was hoping to get along to see you at the carboot but ended up going to Coventry to collect a formica table x
ReplyDeleteOh Vix you are a star... I am very much a naked or Pjs kind of girl.. only own the odd chemise xx
ReplyDeleteI'm currently being a blog lurker Vix, just visiting, not commenting but I had to comment on this post... you are so f*^&^%&% fabulous!!!!!!! These photos thrill me!
ReplyDeleteJust how glamous and stunning do you look ;-)) I adore the first photo its just like a photo from the old school hollywood glamour with a captial G. That peach nighty is to gorgoues for words they just don't make clothes like they used to. Enjoy your wine and pizza later, dee xx
ReplyDeleteAh, I'm especially drawn to the first image. It embodies everything that which is you. You have quite a nightie collection;-)
ReplyDeleteIt's been bucketing down here, too.
Oh fabulous nightie heaven! You are right, they do recall Babs Windsor and the Carry Ons, don't they?
ReplyDeleteAnd maribou-trimmed phone to match your slippers, how co-ordinated!
Nice to see you catching up on your vintage girlie mag reading, the perfect accessory for these beauties!
Enjoy your evening, I'm looking forward to The Apprentice final too, always love the dreadful interview round! xxx
I'm with you on the Appprentice final. Been watching all the way through - come on Tom! I love those Carry On style babydolls, I can't resist a bit of Kenneth Williams and co, but there's no way I could wear Nylon for bed. I can't bear anything but natural breathable fibres, especially in this humid weather
ReplyDeleteI love vintage baby dolls! (Although I do have a tendency to build up a bit of static in bed what with all my tossing and turning!) You look stunning. Em xxx
ReplyDeleteVix, you are looking very saucy in your nighties! I esp. like #3 the short one with the cute hair bow. But I must say you are positively fetching in pic #1 and I love the way you've styled your hair.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the Apprentice and thanks for your suggestion.
xoxo
Holy guacamole - I was cursing my insomnia, but this was worth waking up for! You look AMAZING, Vix - the 1950s one is sexy as all get out and I love your hair.
ReplyDeleteI am totally inspired to do some boudoir shots - though you are kind of like Hendrix... a VERY tough act to follow!
You look absolutely beautiful amor and I can't wait to see the rest of your jumbo treasures.
Loveandskype, Sarah xxx

Fab as ever Vix! loving the vintage nightwear, I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for some for myself! That little envelope clutch is adorable too, HOW do you find these things you must have a radar for fabulousness!
ReplyDeleteMuch love amie xxxxx
Lovely pictures. So glam !
ReplyDeleteHi my dear-what a stunning vintage collection, my fave is definitely the one that can be worn as a dress too, but they are all so lovely!! Hope you have a great Sunday, enjoy the pizza xxx
ReplyDeleteVery saucy lady! Love them all.
ReplyDeleteThe naughty grannies are an amusing thought too.
Ever the glamour puss, you create such beautiful shots. Great finds as always xxx
ReplyDeleteYou look lovely, nylon lingerie is so pretty, i love all the sorbet colours, I just can't sleep in it though!
ReplyDeleteThe first nightie is gorgeous - do you remember Brentford Nylons? I think that's where my mum used to buy hers! I'm bored with The Apprentice now and so I'll be watching the women's world cup final instead. Have a lovely evening.
ReplyDeleteFive jumble sales to choose from?! Some people don't know they're born!
ReplyDeleteI love the first photo so much.
the first shot and the first nightie is sooooooooooo awesome.
ReplyDeletei wasn't lucky today... i wanted to go to a nice flea market near my home town. when i woke up it was raining cats and dogs.... this summer isn't very pleasant to me and my flea-shopping-lust.
http://wardrobexperience.blogspot.com
You look stunning in that first photo!
ReplyDeleteLooking unbelievably glam in those vintage nighties. Can't get over there being FIVE jumble sales in your area, and in July too. You lucky lucky woman.
ReplyDeleteYou look so glam! In fact, you are making me feel vaguely ashamed of my pyjama collection!
ReplyDeleteI've not been enjoying the Apprentice nearly as much this year. We've actually given up on our annual work sweepstake as we'd all lost interest. I'll still be watching tonight's final though.
A girl can never have too many nighties! It's been crappy and rainy here in portland too ;( I love all of these but I am with you that blue robe is sweet and how wonderful it brings back memories of mum when you were little.
ReplyDeleteI picked up a few nighties this weekend, nothing vintage but they are Betsey Johnson and they were only $6 and still had the tags on. I'm too bashful to pose in them but maybe I'll snap a few photos.
bye dear!
Oh how i used to love looking at my dad's Roxy music album covers and admiring the sexy ladies. I've just been transported back to being 9 years old!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a fun post for a dreary hungover Sunday - cheers Vix, you were born to pose!
You certainly are glamour all the way...I can only dream of this :)
ReplyDeleteFIVE jumbles. Wowser! How jealous am I!
ReplyDeleteYou look very saucy. I remember having an orange nylon babydoll affair with matching knickers back in the day!
Yup, can't wait for The Apprentice either.
That 50s see through number is to die for. You look like such a glamorous doll in all of them, but that's definitely my favourite. I love the hair bow on you too, it suits you hugely, and goes well with all of that sexy carry on on nightwear. xx
ReplyDeleteYou are the epitome of amazing.
ReplyDeleteFabulous selection of nightwear! I love vintage dressing gowns! xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a amazing selection! I am so jealous at your ability to find such beautiful things.
ReplyDeleteI went to a jumble yesterday morning and only came about with a few DVDs :( I was hoping to find some amazing vintage goodies but alas it was not my day!

ReplyDeleteYou saucy minx beauty, you look glorious amor. I want all your sexy nighties. love your Parade magazine. Buddys nan had a house coat just like the green one and his grandad threw it away when she past. I think it reminded him too much of her. She wore that house coat a lot. You lucky lady you have lots of jumbo sales to go to, We only have a few a year.
ReplyDeletelove the lingerie envelope! What a unique find!

ReplyDeleteIt's been raining here non stop today but luckily we only had wallpaper scraping planned - we managed to finish the room today, only 5 hours worth of scraping!
ReplyDeleteI was so happy to get sat down and watch the final of The Apprentice and even happier that Tom won! I've been rooting for him since the beginning!
You look amazing in that see-thru number! Such a pretty pretty find! I also love that you modelled them all for us - the yellow baby doll has to be my favourite!
Looking forward to seeing what other jumble treasures you found! xxx
Ooooooh, preeetty! I love things like this, I definitely had some kiddie versions of things like this when I was young! I like the diaphonous arabian nights feel to these too! Oh and love that first shot- all you need is a Cadbury's flake and a lizard!!!
ReplyDeleteWow...I love your hair up! I want to copy this 'do.
ReplyDeleteMy mum had that exact same housecoat in turquoise, just like yours. She wore it for years. Thanks for the memory!!

ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous sleepwear! I think I would wreck something like that if I actually slept in it, but I would love some to lounge saucily in. What a great haul!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful nighties! I - of course - love the 40s lingerie/stocking envelope. I had a beautiful 30s one which I stupidly washed when I was young and ruined it, I still have it though as it was too beautiful to part with!
ReplyDeletei love the first shot. beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love the see-through nightie, so gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteJulia @ retro Jules
Fabulous post and fabulous nightwear! You look stunning :o) Scarlett x
ReplyDeletewow I think these are my favourite pics of you for a long time, so perfectly 60s, you've got the poses down pat, not to mention the hairstyle changes! Woo hoo go Vix! Love ya babe.xx.
ReplyDeleteYou've got some amazing little boudoir treats Vix and just the perfect attitude to show them off - love the Parade mag and those earrings!!!! The mules are simply deadly and so is that amazing hair bow and ring in the teddy bear shot - you minx! xoxoxooxxoxo
ReplyDeleteI love 60s nightwear but like you never wear anything in bed - I'll have to steal your idea and use it for Sunday morning loafing instead! xx
ReplyDeleteYour wardrobe and outfits are absolutely stunning! Such an inspiration! You remind me of a version of Miss Havisham from Great Expectations!

You know I love a bit of loungewear. I'm just the same, I simply cannot sleep with anything on - but this kind of stuff is wasted under the covers anyway.
ReplyDeleteI particularly love the very first one. Saucy! x
Ooh I love vintage nightwear, so pretty! :)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely adore the photo of you on the phone - you look like a 50s pin-up with a nose stud! Magnificent! x
ReplyDelete'VINTAGE VIXEN' you simply couldn't have choosen a better name for this blog...you are the undisputed vintage vixen, of that there is no doubt & with these pics you prove it baby & blow any pretenders out of the water!
ReplyDeleteMy love for vintage bed wear can be traced back to me watching Fawlty Towers as a kid, no I'm not joking, Sybil Fawlty always looked the bees-knees in bed, rollers & hairnet in all.
You look stunning in all these pics and your beautifully quirky home creates the perfect backdrop.
Who lives in a house like this?
A bona fide Vintage Vixen of course ;)
Lot's of love,
Jennie
xXx
So love your 1950s gown......I am always looking for romantic night gowns & yours are beautiful......love the photo of you with the phone!
ReplyDeleteThese photos are lovely! I adore the great 60s feel of these, right up to every detail!
ReplyDeleteSincerely,
Sabrina
All so pretty. Do like the idea that the wee old wifies we see had some racy gear back in the day! xx
ReplyDeleteWe Shop Therefore We Are
Vintage bedware is one of my absolute faaaavourite things to collect, even though I barely ever put any of it to use, I just like it hanging on my walls looking pretty :)
ReplyDeleteI lovvvvvvvvve your nighties.Oh my gosh. You look breathtaking.Everytime I see your photos I want to come over and play dress up.hee hee.And I love your vanity.xx
ReplyDeleteI've been thrifting night clothes lately. I'm a big fan of WHITE fine cotton nightgowns, but recently I bought silk jammies. Don't have a clue what to do with them, but perhaps a pair of maribou slippers will cause this strange urge to make sense.
ReplyDeleteYou look so divine! And I loove your blog's new banner. I wear mostly oversized rock band t-shirts as my nightdressers. Not particularly glamorous...
ReplyDeleteLove the new header. You are stunning! There is nothing better than vintage lingerie.
ReplyDeleteFabulous post! You look amazing in all those nylon numbers! And Brentford Nylon housecoat - my mum had one too! We had brushed nylon fitted sheets from there - horrendous!!
