Being as you asked so nicely here's me modelling two of my latest finds.
The fabulous Liz thinks this evening dress may be Jean Varon and what she doesn't know about vintage clothes ain't worth knowing. Some fool's removed the labels but by comparing it to my other Varon pieces what's left of the tag does look to be the same size and colour. It was filthy when I bought it and if I'd known it could be something special I may have hesitated about chucking it in the washer, but there again, maybe not. I don't usually think twice about washing a vintage piece and I've yet to have a disaster. There's something so rewarding about removing stains and ironing out creases.
Chiffon maxi worn with some silver platform heels (£5, clearance bin at local shoe shop) and heaps of my trademark tribal jewellery. |
I wasn't sure of this dress at first but now it's on I absolutely love it. Not bad for 10p!
Revlon Venetian Blue matt eyeshadow (bought a couple of years ago), Vintage 1960's Leon T Mitchell lashes (20p, car boot sale), eyebrows (all mine) |
Here's the 1920's silk kimono the friendly antique dealer at Wednesday's car boot sale let me have for pennies. As with all my silk, I hand washed it using some grated-up hand soap, line dried it and gently pressed it. It's not perfect but at almost 100 years old what isn't a bit frayed around the edges?
These pictures were taken on the landing with our beloved Cole and Son pink flamingo wallpaper in the background. It was the eBay bargain of the century, £7.51 for two rolls including post and packing. It retails at £55 a roll.
Isn't the embroidery exquisite?
Jon's causing mayhem in the bathroom and refitting the shower. I'm off to mop up whilst he prepares tea.
Have a fabulous evening.

Wow, both finds are fabulous on you! Loving that pale blue. And check out the flamingo wallpaper - love it! xxx
ReplyDeleteOoh yey, I'm first to comment!
ReplyDeleteI love both pieces, but I'm completely distracted by that divine wallpaper! It's gorgeous. I love wallpaper, so much nicer than paint and I love all the wallpapers I've seen in your rooms on photographs.
Xx
Such great finds dear Vix! My favourite is the silk kimono, but that chiffon dress is absolutely gorgeous. xxoo
ReplyDeleteLove both on you. Fabulous finds, yet again, you genius you.
ReplyDeleteOne of the lovely things about being away from the internet for just over a week is catching up on favorite blogs - so I've just had a relaxed scroll through all your posts I've missed. Adore the new header by the way - it's absolutely stunning. As for these two here. Well, I always know I'm going to suffer from a dose of envy when I see your amazing finds - but I've got it really bad this time! They are both absolute treasures. Thank goodness they were rescued by you. Glorious, glorious.
ReplyDeleteThat flamingo wallpaper is wonderful. How I wish I had my own house to do crazy things to. Liz is an amazing font of knowledge isn't she, I am constantly in awe xx
ReplyDeleteI knew that Margot dress would be amazing, and oh my God the kimono is to die for. The flamingo wallpaper I am also in awe of. Were you specifically looking or was it a lucky find?
ReplyDeleteflamingos and kimonos... sounds like a good name for a blog! loved the kimono when you showed it after the carboot; it looks fab on you. and what a lucky find the 10p margot frock was. the sparkly earrings are amazing too! x
ReplyDeleteYour kimono is amazing and the detailing exquisite. I think that sometimes it is nicer to have vintage pieces that are not perfect as I do not feel so bad about wearing them and potentially ruining them :)
ReplyDeletePS - love the wallpaper x
I love that chiffon dress and your wallpaper - honestly I need my head examined I pay way over the odds for everything - someone slap me with a kipper.
ReplyDeleteThe first photo is beautiful - that pale blue colour looks fantastic on you! Love the flamingo wallpaper.
ReplyDeleteI really like the "Haul" post - the clothes, of course - but for sure the glimpses into your totally fascinating home!
ReplyDeleteYour boldness in washing vintage clothes gives me courage to try the same. These two are both amazing.
Thankyou so much for your lovely comment on my blog Vix! I think that dress is super cute too :)
ReplyDeleteThe chiffony dress you're wearing is beyond beautiful-it looks like a vintage Halston piece, I love the tumbling layers. That kimono is unutterably beautiful-it reminds me of some chinese silk screens my mum and dad have at home-the embroidery is stunning.
And as for that wallpaper-I am in love. I was just going to ask where you'd found it so I'm glad you shared your find-I'm off to trawl eBay now!
Much love amie xxxxxxxx
Lovely floaty dress Vix. Your wall paper is lovely too.
ReplyDeleteDx
Both are gorgeous! I absolutely love the kimono, and the dress looks gorgeous on you.

ReplyDeletexxx
ooo that outfit's the absolute mostest
ReplyDeleteOooh, glad to hear my instincts were [probably] right. That kind of Bates/Varon dress is severely underrated at the moment, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time. Especially when people see someone looking so damn awesome in one!! xx
ReplyDeleteAh, heaven! Have been away camping for a few days and it's sheer joy to come back to 3 Vix posts!
ReplyDeleteYou look fabulous in all your pictures and I love the added house pictures. I love that you guys can take modern items and fit them into your home, it's so colourful x
i LOVE the first dress!
ReplyDeleteJulia @ Retro Jules
You look like a dream in that lavender dress, go ahead and twirl :) I can't believe that Kimono is from the 20's holy moly, it is EXQUISITE!
ReplyDeleteTeatime, I'll be right over :)
That's a nice quality kimono that you've got there. I have drawers STOFFED with them - but mainly cotton ones. The silk ones end up all frayed from our tiled floors...make very luxurious dressing gowns. Just find something broad, bright and long to use as an obi and you'll be PERFECT!
ReplyDeleteBlue dress is just lovely on you.
Ali x
They are both fabulous but I have to say that I love th kimono with a passion xx
ReplyDeleteYou look stunning in both the 'Margo' frock and the kimono, and that wallpaper - well, I'm not normally a fan of wallpaper but those flamingos are something else!
ReplyDeleteIncredible finds. The dress is something a bit different - a lovely colour for you. As for the wallpaper - find of the century. The kimono, I'm in awe of. My mum owns several and I love to flounce in them when I visit, but this one; I'd never take it off.
ReplyDeleteThese finds are both absolute belters! I love the dress on you it looks really glam and quite whimsical.
ReplyDeleteFabulous and that blue dress is lovely, the colour is soo pretty. I love your wallpaper, after re-plastering our house, all our walls are painted but I will have to look out for some wallpaper bargains for a re-vamp. xx
ReplyDeletegorgeous pieces and I love the new header pic x
ReplyDeleteYou are a fabulous poser! And posing against that fantastic flamingo wallpaper is definitely the place to do it!
ReplyDeleteI really love you in that lilac chiffon, it IS different for you but you look really dreamy and soft and scrumptious. The kimono is amazing, the close-up of the beautiful embroidery is gorgeous.
Hope the bathroom situation is in hand - let's hear it for Handyman Jon!
both recent finds are pretty damn awesome! I love the chiffon because... well, who doesn't and I have been dying to find a good kimono to wear as a bathrobe!

ReplyDeleteBoth these pieces look divine on you especially that rather special silk kimono - I can imagine it's original owner being just as fabulous as you! The embroidery kinda reminds me of my jewellery box I got at the boot sale although I'm sure mine isn't 100 years old!
Love your makeup and that pink swan wallpaper is such yummy eye candy! xxx

Breakfast in Wonderland
You stunning in the dress and very sexy in the red kimono!
ReplyDeleteThe embroidery in the kimono is amazing and the evening dress is beautifully layered.
By the way really, really enjoying seeing you posing inside different areas of your home. The pink flamingos are a fabulous and happy touch.
Con Amor,
I like a bit of fraying on super-old clothes - stress tears and lots of wear and tear just make these old treasures even more precious. The kimono is just so exquisite and is perfection with your eyeshadow **drooling** and eyelashes! I love the tour of your beautiful castle:)))) xoxoxoxo
ReplyDeleteI love the blue maxi dress on you. It's so glamorous, and I adore how the fabric lays.
ReplyDeleteLove the pics, you look fab.
ReplyDeleteSadie xx
Holy guacamole, you look AAAMMMAAAAZZZIIINNNGGG! I adore you in that maxi with that gorgeous blue eyeshadow and those beautiful lashes... vintage perfection!

ReplyDeletesuperbe comme d habitude !

ReplyDeletexoxo.
You are a vision in that floaty chiffon but I am really hearting the kimono! Love the flamingos!
ReplyDeletexo Bonnie
Love love this chiffon maxi.......gorgeous on you!
ReplyDeleteThe lady who wore that kimono must have been really petite, 'cos kimonos are folded up on themselves by a good few inches and held inplace with a cotton tie before the obi is tied on over the top of the fold.(big, wide sash). Looking at your photos she would have been a good 6 or more inches shorter than you for it to fit properly. Sorry for the kimono geekery, but I have a passion for them, and collected vintage ones when I lived in Japan. Whenever an opportunity arose to get tied up in one I couldn't say no! That one is a real beaut and you look absolutely stunning in it. Em xx
ReplyDeleteI love your little kid art wall!!!
ReplyDeleteyou look absolutely gorgeous in both of your finds!
ReplyDeleteThat kimono looks in pretty good condition to me, especially when you consider that red fabric is the most vulnerable to moth and other beasties. It's absolutely gorgeous, as is the blue frock.
ReplyDeleteOh, that light blue maxi is gorgeous! I wasn't too sure if I'd like it on when I saw it hanging, but it looks beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful kimono, especially up against that wallpaper. But, I'm partial to the blue Varon.
ReplyDeleteLooking as lovely as ever, that cKimono is gorgeous, I would have loved that wallpaper when I was little as flamigos were my favourite birds back then, great finds

ReplyDeleteThe kimono is just fabulous, exquisite embroidery. I have a printed red kimono and love swishing about the house in it. I love your new blog header pic too, a fabulous photo.
