Lazy Sunday Afternoon

By the time Sunday rolls around I'm all shopped out and more than happy to leave the car booting to my blogging buddies. My perfect Sunday is pretty much how I spent today, sleeping off the weekend's excesses then lounging bikini-clad in the garden with a gripping crime novel and the sun on my skin.

Yesterday was a choice of the morning car boot sale or a Methodist church jumble sale. As the church hall is opposite the camping supply shop we opted for the jumble as we're away at a festival later this week and needed a replacement gas bottle.

Hardly exciting but Jon was pleased to find this wooden clothes horse for 40p, ours is on it's last legs and he has to keep nailing it back together every time I stick a wash on.

I'll always find a use for a vintage suitcase when they're 20p a pop.

Two more creepy kids for the Wall of Misery (the blonde girls on the right). £1 for the pair.

I replaced the original band on this 10p straw trilby with my Cher hair braid, if the weather lasts till next weekend it'll be perfect for the Big Chill. Jon's painted the front of the house this week, it looks loads smarter and that's his excuse for not shaving.

Unused 1950's Queen Egg Beater by local company, Tala. I love the colour. The old lady behind the bric-a-brac counter asked if I could afford to pay 50p.

Commemorative Beetleware lidded pot produced in 1936 for George VI's coronation Edward VIII's accession (10p). Thanks, Miss Rayne!

Manufactured by Birmingham-based company British Industrial Plastics.

November 1929 edition of upmarket women's magazine, Britannia and Eve and a 1958 issue of Woman's Own. (10p each)

These four framed silhouettes are rather pretty. I think they're 1960s as my parents had a similar set as a wedding present. (50p)

They fill the awkward gap by the door frame in our non-dining room rather nicely and keep my ancestral portraits company.

Unworn & tagged 1970's bikini (£1, car boot sale), vintage straw hat (50p, car boot sale), Correna sunglasses (£2.99, Oxfam), Quite Ugly One Morning by Christopher Brookmyre (four books for a £1, PDSA)
We're having cheesy chip butties for tea and a pal's lent us series 1 & 2 of Sons Of Anarchy so that's our evening viewing sorted.

Hope your weekend's been as sunny and excellent as ours.

  3. Vix you look fab! I wish I could look half as good and I'm 21 years old! Great finds. Love the whisk- it's so sweet when the sellers don't realise that their unwanted goods are like gold to us! The case is pretty too xxx

  5. Just saw your comment, yup I'd just discovered on that list that Loreal in fact own Mayb; I'd been avoiding the former for years! Yargh! Lush is highly praised on the site, so I will definitely look in there. xx

  11. Oh my, Vix, if I looked like you in a bikini, I'd wear one all the time. Yeah, school run and everwhere! You look super cool, super glam, and super gorgeous.
Great finds, as ever, particularly loving that whisk, though 50 whole pence - my goodness, you pushed the boat out!!
PS. Smart house, lovely man too! Enjoy your evening xx

  13. Cheesy chip butties you say? NOMMS. That might be our dinner inspiration sorted too!

Love that bikini on you, isn't the weather such a lovely relief after all that cold and damp?

  14. I love the whisk! What a great find. I've spent the afternoon in my brother in law's garden. I don't have the confidence to go for the bikini though. If I looked half as good as you I might though. When are you getting your camper? xx

  17. You found all that in one jumble sale???? Amazing - love the blue of the whisk; 50p AND the original tag - wow. I've got one in yellow, but its been very well-loved - or someone's let their child use it as a teething ring - as there's hardly any colour left.

Lovely clothes horse - love the floral piece hanging over it too.

Umm - why are you sunbathing with your shoes on? ;) You look so glam, AND its all authentic vintage - brilliant!

And hooray to Jon for smartening up (and hopefully weather-proofing) the house :) x

  19. you look always glamorous, including when sunbathing on your garden! (nothing like a crime novel under the sun!)
And love all that stuff you've found, specially I'm loving the egg beater, a very genuine piece and such a pretty color!
    besos

  20. More fab bargains, I think your Kingly trinket might be Edward VIII rather than George as both George and elizabeth were crowned and so they usually are both on commorative ware.

  21. As usual GREAT finds! But those creepy kids and that blonde girl are actually quite scary looking:P hehe

  22. Oh Vix, looking glam as usual! Nice to be enjoying a little sun, eh?

Funny, I was just thinking of getting a new laundry drip dry thingy as mine is starting to fall apart as well. Love all your purchases espc. the turquoise egg beater. I recently found a retro set of turquoise measuring cups and am thinking I'd like to find more kitchen items in that color. It's a new favorite.

    Havce fun at the festival.

  23. Aaahh, look at you in this incredible (and well-priced) bikini! When you've got a minute you need to share with us the secret of getting such amazing muscles... Great finds, as always - love the upmarket women's mag. xxx

  24. I was looking out for additions for your wall of misery in the bric-a-brac shops in Ludlow yesterday, but found none.

You look very glam indeed. Xx

  25. Your house looks like one that i would love to explore!!! If you like crime novels you should read The Sculptress (cannot for the life of me remember the author) but its FAB, i had to study it for part of my degree.

Im slowly learning the art of car booting!!

  26. You should definitely go when you have the chance, it's a really fun day out! We used to go a lot when my brother and I were younger, so yesterday was the first time in a good, few years. You look stunning lounging on that wooden lounger too! Hope you've had a good weekend, and thanks for the birthday wishes :) xxx

  27. So many wonderful things about this post! First, you look damn good in your bikini! Love the high waist! I came home from a long day at work a few weeks ago to a package sitting on my doorstep. My grandma had sent me her crochet bikini from the 70's! Second, that egg beater is so cool and great color. I have one but its just silver.

  28. Oh Vix, what delightful finds as always. I am particularly loving the Tala homeware.

I was only earlier frivolously flicking through the new Argos catalogue in hope of finding something fabulous, though that didn’t quite happen. I did notice a few retro meets modern style Tala pieces. Though they’ve got nothing on the originals and are far too over-priced for me xxx

  29. Such chic sunbathing! I've managed a little time on my sunbed with a book this weekend - lovely. Fab finds as usual! x

  30. Love your big bikini - much more stylish than a skimpy number - and matching straw hats. And the wooden clothes horse is exciting! I need to get rid of our nasty metal one and go retro.

  31. Looking stunning as ever Vix :0) xx

I really NEED one of those egg beaters, it's superb ! And the silhouettes, quite simple but very effective, the frames really set them off.

Enjoy your night in front of the box xxxx

I really fancy going to the Big Chill, might sort myself out one day and get my ass there.

  39. You had sunshine today? No fair! It was that annoying combination of cloudy and horribly humid here all day. I don't mind the heat if it's actually sunny but otherwise it's just irritating.

I really love the silhouette portraits. Perfect for that space on the wall.

  42. You always find the most gorgeous things!

I have watched plenty of silhouettes on eBay but they go for stupid money so I can't believe you only paid 50p for all 4! I think the Jumble sale was the right option to go with!

Your 'Wall of Misery' is expanding quite nicely! Those two prints are very retro looking indeed!

Love the colour of the whisk! xxx

  53. You are just fab! These photos of you relaxing and enjoying life just made me smile. I love your vintage case. I had one of these as a "ballet bag" with my ballet shoes and leotard in when I was about 7. I wrote a letter to swap shop and got sent a swap shop sticker. I was so made up, I stuck it on my ballet bag. Upside down. I still have the bag and it still makes me laugh that I walked round carrying it thinking I was the cats pyjamas and everyone else could see I was a bit of a dingbat! Em xxx
