This time next week we'll hopefully be packed and ready to head off to Glastonbury.
In readiness I made a new headband, my essential accessory for disguising filthy, unwashed festival hair.
It seems like every shop on the high street sells floral headbands, they're pretty but a bit too subtle for my taste. I make my own by cutting the waistband off a knackered pair of tights and hand-sewing on the petals and leaves from artificial flowers (bought by the bagful at any car boot sale).
Hair worthy of Worthy Farm for less than 50p, no danger of anyone losing me now.
No camp's complete without bunting and last year's is looking a bit battered so I've ransacked my vintage fabric stash and made more. It's currently prettifying our smoking area. This is where you'll always find Jon at parties.
Maxi dress worn with a vintage scarab pendant (£1.50, car boot sale) |
A big thank you to my new blog buddy, Lucy, for sending me this gorgeous vintage nylon maxi dress she found in a charity shop at the weekend. It's perfect.
Don't forget to check out my guest post over at the wonderful Rachel's blog today
I absolutely love the pendant. really an amazing piece and I can't belive the bargain price!
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful outfit, especially that gorgeous dress, I really love those sleeves.
ReplyDeleteYou look so beautiful. Like a magical festival fairy! Loving the hairpiece.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, a magical festival fairy! I was thinking Greek Goddess but that's much more like it. You look gorgeous.
ReplyDeletei love the head gear.
ReplyDeleteHa. Filthy, unwashed hair. You are such a pagan goddess!
ReplyDeleteExcellent outfit and am looking forward to the excuse to wear flowers in my hair at the 60s wedding I'm attending soon. Good find from Lucy x
ReplyDeleteWow,it looks so different 'on'! My OH said it gave him the creeps, he could imagine the ghost of a troubled soul floating by in it. I instantly thought 'festival' when I saw it, and with your expert styling you've managed to create the ultimate festival look. It's great fun seeing something modelled just how you imagined, only better! Fab bunting too...
ReplyDeleteYour bunting is adorable! I love the flower headband - I know what you mean about the ones in the shops being too small - I'm not that outgoing but I think on long, thick hair they could look a bit 'lost,' and that's not the point of wearing flowers in your hair, is it?!
ReplyDeleteLucy was on the button with this fab maxi! It is gorgeous on you, and I love the flowers with it! xxxxxxx
ReplyDeletejust discovered your blog via moon to moon. you are amazing! i love your look, and you have the best maxi dress collection! looking forward to more posts.
ReplyDeleteExcellent tip on making a floral headband from old tights, never would have thought of that! :)
ReplyDeleteA fab bit of head candy for a great bit of eye candy! I love the floaty dress, looks like you are gonna get major stoned and dance around rings of magic mushrooms! lol!
ReplyDeleteStraight out of Woodstock! If you're going to wear flowers in your hair, you might as well do it properly and actually see them! I never would have thought of a tights waistband to stitch them to - what a great idea.
ReplyDeleteYour smoking corner looks - well, smoking! Ready to hold your own Glasto x
You look fabulous! Such a good idea to make your own headband- you're right, they're all a bit generic and dull on the high street, unless you're willing to stump up extortionate amounts of course!
ReplyDeleteYou really remind me of the Medieval Baebes in this outfit, which I definitely mean as a HUGE compliment as I heart them lots. Went to see them in Rotherham cathedral last Christmas and they were all dressed like this, singing their arias. Gorgeous!
xxx Maddie
I love your headband, and the fab idea of making it from the waistband of a pair of tights! I have a ruck-load of old flowers and a pile of tights that are about four inches shorter than the length of my legs, so will be cutting those babies up and sewing myself a fairy headband. Thank you for your gorgeous comment on my blog. You are a lovely, supportive and gorgeous woman yourself, and I'm very happy to have "met" you. Big hugs, Em x
ReplyDeleteOOH! Great use for old tights. I love to recycle old tights (bizarre trait)!! I go to the £1 buy-anything-random-ironmongers for my fake flowers.
ReplyDeleteI also adore your smoking area, how civilised. Being a non-smoker I don't like my house smoky, but it's most uncouth not to have nice facilities for the fag-ash-lils-and-lens amongst us. Most of whom have the best gossip at any given party!
That headband is gorgeous! I'm going to Glastonbury this year for the first time, it's so exciting! Might have to make a headband of my own :) x
ReplyDeleteHi my dear-your headband looks so stylish and pretty and I adore the maxi dress too, not long now lucky girl! xx
ReplyDeleteYou look like a bohemian goddess! xx
ReplyDeleteLoving the head band ... and that pendent is gorgeous!!!

ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous dress, its all very ethereal. I love your bunting too. I need to make more bunting, ours didn't survive last years camping. Xx
ReplyDeleteoh, this dress looks so romantic and dreamy... love it's soft print.
ReplyDeletehttp://wardrobexperience.blogspot.com
Love the headband, it goes perfectly with the maxi. Jon and Mr D would end up smoking together I am sure, that is where he always gravitates to as well. Sometimes I even pretend to be a smoker, just to make sure I'm not missing out on any good gossip xx
ReplyDeleteAs soon as you mentioned the spotability-in-a-crowd angle of your headband I started wondering if you'll have a day-glo version for night-time... Love the way you've made such a brill job of making your own. Great maxi from Lucy - fab how things seem to be flying round the country between bloggers! Top smoking area too - loving that black'n'white chair; I've got a white one.
ReplyDeleteFabulous headband - a real eye-catcher - and I love your new bunting too.
ReplyDeleteVix, you look most ethereal and blissed-out, like a vintage angel! Lovely dress from Lucy, very you, and the flowers are gorgeous - rather reminiscent of Helga's flowery hat, I feel!
ReplyDeleteLove the bunting too - you have been busy with the beautifying.
ahh, you are so ready for Glastonbury! I hope that you have the most wonderful time and the rain holds off! What a fab idea for a headband, made for a fraction of high street prices and looking a million times better! x
ReplyDeleteYou look perfect for Glasto! I love the floral headband, no chance of you getting lost eh?
ReplyDeleteFab bunting too!
Sophie

ReplyDeleteYou look magical in this outfit. I love your dress. And the crown of flowers is a lovely touch. :)
ReplyDeleteDear Vix, I've missed you! I decided to try and live without constantly looking at the computer for a long weekend... it wasn't easy!
ReplyDeleteUsing tights is inspired, I would never have thought of that. Love the headband and the pendant and the dress is fabulous! Gorgeous sleeves!
Your smoking area and bunting are great!
Love you loads xx
If I'm not in the kitchen at parties then I'm usually passive smoking. Considering I've never touched a cig in my life, I really don't know why I like hanging around smoke so much.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, back on topic. I love the floatiness of this frock - perfect with the floral headband. Great pick by Lucy!
Ooh - the waistband from a pair of tights! You are so CLEVER! I have been using ribbon - which is ok for a while but it does slip and you have to keep adjusting it - your idea is MARVELLOUS!
ReplyDeleteYou look AMAZING in that gorgeous etheral frock and headpiece - I am SO ENVIOUS! I want to come to Glasto with you! I can't wait to see your pics and hear your tales, amor!
Love, Sarah xxx

I can't believe Glastonbury is only next week! Not that I'm going but it really means festivals are now a'happening.. aka summer :-)
I don't know if I really want to go to Glastonbury, it seems so massive and difficult to get to the stage, I'd love to hear about your experiences =)
oh to be homely and think of bringing bunting for a tent!
love the sleeves...what a thoughtful gift! btw....the ocean picture from my last post was taken in Portugal!

xxx
Love your style, I have so many things that would look amazing on you. You would love Byron Bay if your ever in Australia, you would go nuts for all the amazing hippie stuff (vintage of course) you get here- it became popular from all the leftovers from the Aquarius festival in 73 setting up round the area. Have fun at Glastonbury!

ReplyDeleteI love your hair crown, been thinking to make one of my own.what a genius idea. that pendant is a beauty for a steal of a price.

Imagining myself wearing a floral headband while schlepping around my house with filthy hair and a stained t-shirt. It might help!
ReplyDeleteI think you always look 100% fabulous...between you, Helga, and a few other UK dames...I just am in awe of your style and pizazz! xoxoxo
