Specs Appeal

I've lusted after Hip Hotels for ages so when I found a copy for 50p at a table top sale on Saturday I soon snapped it up and have been pouring over photographs the most divine heritage hotels and beach hideaways ever since. A confirmed backpacker I may be but a girl can dream.

I rarely buy a new book, when my friends and I find a great read we'll pass it on. My lovely pal Cheryl dropped this pile off before we hit the pub at the weekend, I'm already halfway through Jo Nesbo's The Snowman and it's a gripping read. I do love dark Scandinavian thrillers and this one's no exception.

Of course reading's a lot easier now I've got my new glasses.

When a recent eye test revealed I needed reading glasses there was no way I could justify splashing out over £100 on something I was only going to wear around the house.

After finding these vintage 1950's Mafline specs at the town centre flea market for 20p I did some research and found Glasses Complete who offered a complete re glazing service for £20. I was able to discuss my prescription with an extremely helpful optician over the phone, pay by Paypal and had my glasses returned by post within 10 days of sending them away.

Vintage nylon nightie (My dearest Helga), Marabou trimmed mules (British Heart Foundation £3.49)
The Mela was rather marvellous, the winning lifter was able to pick up a whopping 180kg stone. I've no idea how he managed to bring it with him, I'm assuming it wasn't by public transport. It was rather strange to be the only woman amongst over a thousand men, maybe my idea of Sunday afternoon fun isn't the same as your average Black Country woman.

Do check out the marvellous Mrs Bossa's blog today, there's some fantastic quotes and positive thinking from some of my favourite bloggers.

    Love your specs. xxx

  19. My dad just bought a Jo Nesbo, he said I can read it first. Good to hear a positive review before I start! I'm interested to hear how Tracy Emin's book is, too.

The glasses look grand, with your eyebrows especially they make you look like you're weighing up whether or not you should say the witty observation you've just thought up.

    Love the glasses, great idea.

I need a new brooding, slightly nasty thriller writer to satisfy the darker reaches of my poor damaged psyche - will try Jo Nesbo for size!

  54. A gorgeous shade of turquoise there Vix - both the nightie and on your nails.

Those glasses really suit you; Husband has a similar pair that he's saving for when he needs prescription specs (I can't wait 'cos they look great on him). Tell you what though, I'll book mark that website as Mum could have done with that the other day, as she got ripped off big time in Boots whose optician said that they can't replace lenses in old frames.

  59. Fantastic about the glasses! Great to know it's so cheap - I bet more people would do that if they knew the price.

I came home last night to my neighbour throwing about 10 cook books in the recycling!!! I was like, NOOOOO, don't throw them away! I couldn't bloody believe it - who throws books in the trash?!

  60. Vix, I have spent hours today checking out your blog - Love it! I was brought here, looking for a picture of the Gypsy chandelier for my blog, and I find you have one too! Can I ask you (because I've searched and can't find it!) the name of your shop on e-bay please? I'm a plus size myself, so don't know about the reality of finding much available in my size, but I love your style and how well you manage to look so stylish while out and at home, on a budget... Inspiring and beautiful stuff. Thank you - Fhina x http://www.awomanofnoimportance.com/

  61. I can not be alone in thinking this: but is there anything that you don't look STUNNING in? Good lord, you make reading glasses all sexy, Vix. Mah GAWD! I now want to dig out a pair of glasses and look all academic so I can be cool like you. You sizzle.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Your new glasses are fab Vix. I'd love something like that for myself, but would have to go through the optician as my prescription is so high they need to use a special kind of glass! Bugger that I say, and just stick to the contact lenses.

Were you honestly the only girl? What an odd lot Black Country gals are! Don't the grannies know this is where you pick up your jumble sale tactics ;) xx

Well good job you incinerated it and saved us from that erm fly, cheers, in future Bionic Man can we just call you man.
