You've Gotta Have Faith

My friends reckoned I'd got a touch of Paloma Faith going on with last night's outfit, I just felt the need to inject a bit of colour into the proceedings down at the Black Country Arms last night but I was more than flattered by the comparison.

Vintage Dollyrockers maxi (99p eBay), Johnny Loves Rosie corsage (£1 local boutique), Bag (handmade by me using a set of 20p retro curtains), Grey velvet platform boots (£9 Office)

Yesterday was a day of great excitement, not only did we go to the first car boot of the year but we squeezed in a jumble sale, too. Jon found a pair of groovy 1970's curtains from which I promptly made my bag. The perfect size for stowing away my umbrella once we got to the pub and ideal for transporting cheap Asda wine to the curry house.

The car boot wasn't quite in full swing, mostly bootleg DVDs, racks of dodgy sportswear and knock-off designer bags but I did snaffle this tapestry fire screen for £1.50

and this tatty little flip-up sewing stool complete with vintage sewing supplies for £3. I can't wait to get the paint brush and the staple gun on it.

Despite a night of mixing India Pale Ale with Mateus Rose, I was up at 9am this morning, clear-headed and raring to go. I've managed to complete yesterday's Guardian crossword, done the supermarket run, had a Wii Fit workout and I've cut out the pieces for my latest sewing project.

Vintage midi dress refashioned by me into a mini (eBay £5.90) worn with 1970's grey leather knee boots (PDSA charity shop £4.99)

We were very bad on Friday, Jon found a £20 note in his coat pocket and we opted for a delivery curry instead of homemade pizza, so we're having one tonight in front of Come Dine With Me and the rest of the surprisingly acceptable Lidl own-brand rum.

Cheers, my dears! Hope you've had a great weekend, too.

  1. Sounds like a great weekend and both outfits look nice! :D

I think the bag that you made is cute -- I like that it's big and colorful!

    Happy Monday!

  2. You've been busy Vix! I've been cracking on with a mixture of housework (we emptied half the storage unit yesterday and there are boxes all over the house now) and proper work. This working from home malarkey is bad - I wouldn't usually be tempted to do stuff on a Sunday!

A Paloma comparison is always a good thing, yes? Personally I think you look better than her. That Dollyrockers maxi is glorious.

  7. Loving the mini-dress. LuVVING!

As for Paloma Faith (never heard of her) - well...! Words fail. Tbh she looks like something the cat dragged in! No WAY do you look like that scarecrow. Sorry to Paloma-peeps but there's stylishly quirky eccentricity and then there's dog's breakfast.

  9. Dearest Vix, I absolutely love the mini dress the print is beautiful and so are you in it. It's much better as a mini too.

The colours on the maxi are fabulous! I love the new sewing box, look forward to seeing what you do with it.

You put me to shame the amount of things you've done all weekend. I have done nothing! I have had to have a word with myself about the Wii Fit gathering dust. I plan to switch it on tomorrow at long last. Much love, C xx

I've had a disappointing weekend after being sick all last night and today. I'm feeling pretty fed up at the mo. I hate being ill!

  13. love the bag Vix, and the mini dress! I can't wait to get down to my local carboot as soon as I have some pennies. I'm lucky in that ours runs throughout the winter inside cow shed type things, but it does mean I spend a fortune and have to limit myself to not going every sunday x

  15. You look much better than Paloma in my opinion. I am a big fan of your homemade bag, what a good size. Always handy to have something large enough to stash away some wine! I really like the lidded stool too, the green satin lining is lovely.

Today has been very lazy but yesterday was spent at the Imperial War Museum then the pub. I'd never been before, but must go back again sometime as there was no time to do teh holocaust section. Must go when I'm feeling strong xx

  21. Hi my dear-the maxi dress and tote bag are just stunning-I love them together and you've inspired me to make a tote bag-I found some William Morris material at the booty yesterday, so I will get some handles soon and try and make one-do you think could I have a tutorial post on this in the future please, it looks fabulous!! The re styled mini dress is such a gorgeous print, I really love it. have a lovely evening my dear, enjoy your rum, yummy xx

  22. Wow you HAVE been busy! I absolutely adore the bag-from-curtains: it's gorgeous! I don't know if you've ever done a post about this, but perhaps we could see a how-to-make-a-stunning-bag-out-of-old-curtains tutorial? :-)

    You look stunning as ever!

  23. Love the white and pink frock and your whole outfit,

Thanks for your comments on my blog - yeah I watched this. I must admit I like my make up but I am no where near like those girls. My make up takes 30 mins I can do it quicker though. To be honest to spend 2 hours a day on make up and getting ready is just so excessive.

I worry about how I look all the time so I know how these girls feel but I do not think I am so obsessed as they are and I am definitely not shallow!

I do like Paloma Faith, I'd have her around for tea and a bun any time.
Haven't been to a booty yet this year myself. I was gardening all morning so I may go next week. I like the sewing stool....very sweet.
Your right about Aldi rum. I like a bit of Sailor Jerry's spiced usually, but Aldi's is not to shabby.

  30. No I didn't go to Sutton Coldfield. Like you I was tempted, but thought it'd be a bit pricey, plus I don't get the same 'kick' out of buying stuf unless I feel I've 'discovered' it and got a damn good bargain. I might go when I've lost a bit more weight as I'm in serious need of some vintage dresses and despite the prices I'm sure it will be the place to get them. We'll have to meet up if both end up going to one x

  31. OMG Best. Dress. Ever. And I ADORE your bag, you clever fabulous woman! Bloody hell you've got to have some chutzpah to wear that combo Vix and you are rocking the shit out of it! You look AMAZING, as always Vix!

  34. yeah, you do have a touch of her, it's the headpiece =) and mixing of different styles/eras.

    I love Mary Poppins bags!

That sewing stool is really cool.

I did a bit of sewing today also! A project of amalgamating a shirt and hoody. (right up your street lol joking) I even tried out your flower tutorial, but it was just a very slapdash experiment on the latter- when I make nicer ones I'll try and remember to post them!

  35. I do like Paloma Faith's style, you could do a lot worse than being compared to her.
Love the bag and you look fantastic in the mini dress.

  46. Love your Paloma Faith look. I'm rocking PF style hair at the mo', my mate's mum told me I looked just like her, which was nice!!

It's definitely time to brighten things up: I'm reducing black and grey clothing at work! It's too grey at work as it is!
