Vintage wool cape (British Heart Foundation), Dollyrockers Maxi (eBay), Shoeboots (Local shoe shop), Country Casuals belt (Age UK) |
This is what I wore last night. Much as I love knocking 'em dead in the aisles at Asda, my fragile state this morning left me minus the dexterity required for applying false eyelashes.
Nail Varnish (Barry M), Heart-shaped ring (Darling Helga) |
Yesterday morning was spent scouring the charity shops of nearby Bilston.
I found these grey 1970's leather boots with a wooden stack heel in the PDSA for £4.99.
A pristine copy of a 1968 double LP by Pink Floyd, Beacon Centre For The Blind £1
Gripping reads, three books for a quid, again from Acorns Hospice. The Model was a huge favourite of mine back in the day.
This vintage picnic hamper was in the window of an independent stationers. The owner was emmigrating to Bulgaria and wanted £10 for it. He told me that it was a wedding present bought for his parents in 1957.
This will be fabulous on the roof rack of the Beetle if we ever get a decent summer.
Jon found himself some indigo skinny jeans for £4.49 which he wore last night along with the vintage Oxblood brogues I got from last month's jumble sale and a 1950's Dhobi mohair and wool overcoat that once belonged to my late Grandpa.
Food bargains!
If we go to the hellhole locally known as the 24 hour Asda an hour before they close for restocking the fresh food is reduced to silly money. Here's just some of today's treats.
Looks like a buffet style tea this evening, care to join us?
Yum yes please :D
ReplyDeleteGreat bargains .. yet again my lovely! I espesh love those grey boots!! They would match my new nail varnish perfectly ;P

ReplyDeleteGreat hamper and how nice to know it's story. Would love to join the buffet, looks yummy, but we're having a roast dinner for once!
I love the hour-before-they-close deli haul! The Asda 'whoops' sticker is my snacking friend! :)
ReplyDeleteThat pick-nick basket is so deeply, deeply wonderful. Even if the weather stays terrible, I'd whack a rung down in the living room and indoor pick-nick on my Asda haul!
Hello Vix! I love your nail color!! Which reminds me I have to paint mine today.
ReplyDeleteThe boots are gorgeous and what a awsome price paid for them.
I ADORE that picnic basket. I am currently looking for one to put on the back of my Bicycle so the man and I can ride places and have a picnic. haha I have seen a coupld but nothing as nice as yours!! I only find ones with some plates cups and cutlery. No thermos's and other lovely containers.
Wow the prices on that food! Jeaz they would never clear out food that low here, they are practically giving it away. hahaha
Could I have a closer look at those gorgeous rings Vix? please? :puss in boots eyes:
ReplyDeleteI adore you for mixing goth and boho chic together into such a marvellous outfit. Gotta give it to you, who'd expect egg and cinnamon to be whipped into a totally delectable dish? ;)

ReplyDeleteGreat outfit!
I do love your gorgeous cape and that nail polish is totally fab with it. We often pop into Tesco and M&S around the corner in the last hour too - again, I like the chance factor!
ReplyDeletexxxxx
Me and Mr Bossa have always wanted a vintage picnic hamper...but we perhaps need a car first to transport it around...
ReplyDeleteAnd yay for pristine Pink Floyd! xx
I adore that cape, and what a bargain those gorgeous boots are. You're a right shoe fiend lately lol xx
ReplyDeleteI'll join you for that buffet, as long as it's on the floor with the picnic stuff! Fingers crossed for that sunny summer! x
ReplyDeleteGreat bargains - down to the food! How fab that Jon can wear your grandpa's coat. You really must have wowed them in Asda in that glorious cape and looking that glam!
ReplyDeleteFabulous finds as usual! And I still love The Model!!
ReplyDeleteYour purple cape is bewitching!
ReplyDeleteThat picnic set is a great find! I love how it's all neatly packed and it looks like nothing is missing which is always a plus! Very sweet and quaint indeed, an English necessity!
Ooo Asda Extra Special, lovely food bargains there! xxx
Wow amazing finds! I wish we had thrift shops like that here. What a steal on the leather boots, and Jon looks fab in the skinny jeans! I really love the outfit you wore too, you always pull off the best looks and you look so confident in them too. http://thearcenciel.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteVix you look absolutely stunning. I remember you blogging about fighting a granny for a cape! I can only presume this must be it? I would have been fighting too, it's a true gem! The colour is fab too (I really do have a Purple thing going on at the mo!)
ReplyDeleteHope the heads feeling a little better this evening. Sounds like you had a good weekend! At least you can have a knockout tea to recover.
Much love,
Trayci x. X
I looove getting discount foods! We were hosting a dinner party last saturday, and were planning to make fish. Mr went to buy it and came back with 10 middle sized fish for, wait for it, 64p!!! CRAZY! and to know they would easily charge 14 quid for one in a fancy restaurant! Makes me sick , haha! : P
ReplyDelete'bargain' is one of my favorite words. amazing finds! and you look brilliant!
ReplyDeleteDear Vix, what a gorgeous couple you are and I love you in false eyelashes.
ReplyDeleteLove the cloak. I went mental and left a bid on a ridiculous one on Ebay this afternoon and I've just won it for the full price... Ooops!
Very impressed with the bargain food, I'd eat all of that. Speak soon, love, C xx
Love love love the picnic set. It looks in fabulous nick, as of course do you and Jon! Gorgeous cape.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, as always. That picnic hamper is so lovely. And I can beat those reductions - we managed to get to everything just as it was yellow stickered down to 1p last night. The freezer is now full and we have a glut of hot cross buns!! :) x
ReplyDeleteGreat look (you make me want to try false eyelashes!) and super buys, Vix. The hamper is perfect for summer and Jon has succeded in what I'm still trying to do... Finding the perfect 2nd hand jeans. xxx
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Vix, and snap with the food bargains. We raided our local supermarket after a few ciders for some reduced goodies. :)
ReplyDeleteLooking back on the previous post, flipping heck love good work on the shoes!! Those platform boots are fab!
xx
That cape is amazing. I bet Minerva McGonagall would have had one when she was young (JK Rowling should so do a book on her youth). And I love the picnic basket (plus bargain food). Thanks so much for following my blog - I am in awe of your bargains! I need to learn the way of the jumble sale, obviously.
ReplyDeleteYou may be jealous that charity shops are open on a Sunday in London (not round my way, mind), but they are definitely more expensive. Yesterday I saw something from Zara priced at £12. Admittedly this was in Kensington but they had Marni cashmere at £45. Weird pricing I think. Even in S. London ones it's hard to find clothes under £3.50 at the mo. Maybe I need to extend my hunting ground.
I know I always love how you look, but I do find this outfit particularly stunning on you - it's fabulous. I'm also loving the picnic hamper, I can also see it popping in the camper van for fab days out and maybe an airing at a festival or two?
ReplyDeleteLove the picnic set! I saw a gorgeous 1960's suitcase picnic set in an op-shop ages ago and regret not picking it up!! I'd love to find another.
ReplyDeleteThe boots are great too!! Love the colour.
We often hit the supermarkets late at night to get cheap bread and other goodies. I'm still buying marked down christmas puddings!
Xox Claire
the grey boots--unbelievable and they just look so right with the tights. My husband and I shop salvage foods too--often expensive, whole foods.
ReplyDeleteOh my god I don't know whether to be more excited about the PInk Floyd album or the 1957 picnic basket. OK, obviously Floyd wins, hands down. But the basket is pretty frickin awesome too!
ReplyDeleteYou look incredible, as always, and I would like to see you singing Gypsies Tramps and Thieves - or riding your steed across the moors singing Wuthering Heights in that amazing cape!
Your Jon looks gorgeous too!
Sarah xxx
Wowww that cape! I bet you feel amazingly dramatic making entrances in that!! What amazing finds, plus The Model is a brilliant song ;D
ReplyDeletexxxxxxxx

And what a fantastic hamper. I've a feeling it'll not be getting used for a few weeks yet though. It's crazy cold here still ... will it end *sob*
I am in love with that vintage picnic hamper. So adorable! And, as per usual, your outfit is gorgeous. I will never stop being amazed by your awesome collection of printed maxi-dresses!
ReplyDeleteI have to start doing stuff like that, I didn't know they reduced to those prices an hour before closing, must make a visit on Sunday afternoon!
ReplyDeleteLove that hamper, what a bargain!
A very groan/gasp-like OOOHH! noise at the sight of the Kraftwerk book, which I didn't know existed! Purple is great on you.xx.
ReplyDeleteFantastic outfit! I like wearing falsies too but they are so annoying to put on! let me know if you want to follow each other :)
ReplyDeletehttp://opinionslave.blogspot.com

Gorgeous purple cape - love it! Pleased to find another supermarket bargain hunter - my heart beats faster when I spot a yellow label! xx
ReplyDeleteI'm running so behind on my blog reading, I'm sure I'm always the last person to comment on your posts! That picnic set is amazing, you can always have an indoor picnic on a rug in the loungeroom. Looks as though you already have the ingredients! I do love a good mark-down, wish we got bargains like that in M&S (our area is too posh for Asda, so I get most groceries online and fresh veg from our local barrow boys) xx
ReplyDeleteHi, just found your super blog. Given me loads to read and all your fab pics to look at. Well done!
ReplyDeleteit goes without saying I love your purple cape-totally gorgeous, I also love Jon's outfit-I love that look on men, and who else bt you could post about reduced Asda food and be so chic at the same time?x
ReplyDeletethat picnic basket is too cute!!!
ReplyDeleteYou look fabulous as always and your other half is looking mighty fine too. I just love the idea of those oxblood brouges. What a fine looking couple you make! I have tights that colour too. Coloured tights re so the way to go. Hope you enjoyed your bargain feast x
ReplyDeleteLove those grey boots!!!
ReplyDeleteI love a good yellow sticker hunt. Our freezer is full of M&S goodies - there's one right by work but it's far too pricey to shop at as a general rule, so I tend to stalk it at 5pm when the bargains go out.
ReplyDeleteHope you both had a fab night - you were certainly dressed in fine style!
oh no! I'm comment 74!!! How did that happen, I've been sitting at this damned computer all bloody day and not got your update in my feeder *grrr*
ReplyDeleteAnyway - you and Jon look stunning - you have got a brilliant eye for a bargain. I'd love to tag along with you one say and see what bargains you can unearth for me :-)
Food bargains are great - hope they were tasty! and, by being a bargain, all the more money saved for your next charity shop jaunt!
