The Big Chill

The UK's in the grip of the coldest November for years and it's un-freaking-believably vile, some parts of our area went down to -17 last night. We've only had a dusting of snow so far but if the BBC is to be believed it's set to reach us Midlanders tomorrow. Nothing but nothing's going to stop me getting to the airport on Friday even if it means hiring a team of huskies and a sledge to drag us up the M6.

This is the only kind of Big Chill I like:

The blissed out arts festival held in the Herefordshire countryside every August. Twenty-four hour drinking, dancing, hedonism and frivolity is far more my style.

Vintage Richard Draper of Glastonbury coat (£9.99), Shift dress (Made by me out of a 1950's jumble sale curtain), Tods' python boots (car boot sale £7), Vintage hat (jumble sale 20p)

Never mind, I got to open some early birthday presents at the weekend. It's my birthday a week today and as I've only got a 15kg baggage allowance I haven't enough room to take them with me.

My lovely friend Cheryl bought me this gorgeous bird print dress and a yellow leather bag she had custom made in Tunisia.

Turquoise Lancome eyeshadow and some deliciously blingy TopShop jewellery. I'm so spoilt.

I bought this vintage sheepskin coat from Banardos a couple of weeks ago. My home town is known for having the highest number of overweight adults in the UK, not good news for the NHS but great for little old me who has hardly any competition for smaller sizes in the local charity shops.

Four days and counting. I really have to go and pack my bag.

  1. Ah! Lucky you! Your holiday's so near, I'm sure you'll be able to get to airport whatever the weather does. Ireland is in such a bad way with the snow, we CANNOT deal with it,ever.Loving that coat and that dress is craft awesomeness - what a fantastic green!

  2. I would love to have lots, and lots of snow...Such is the world. We never get snow. Today is raining and people do not go out. Just stay indoors...
Happy Birthday, and I do hope you do not need to get the huskies hehehehe.
    Un abrazo my dear friend.

  8. Your house must be like the Tardis. Even though your clothes are tiny sizes they must still take up a lot of space. However will you manage with a 15kg bag?

I love that dress and your coat

  10. O I`m real envious of you flying off to laze on the beach. Love the outfit but walking in those boots in the snow we have in Co Durham would have me on my bum! I`ve got the trusty 7 year old TopShop boots out flat and so snug.

  13. The vintage hat and coat look perfectly warm and cosy for such a cold November day. I love the green of the shift dress, and can’t believe it started out as a 1950’s curtain, what a great transformation.

Your holiday is so soon, I didn’t realise! You definitely picked the perfect time to escape this freezing weather xx

  14. Its bloody freezing! You look rather snuggly in that gorgeous coat: the boots are amazing too!

Are you going away for the winter or for a few weeks?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Ohhhh! Sooooooooooo jealous! My flat is an icebox and it's probably nowhere near as cold as the midlands - considering taking off myself to marginally warmer Spain.
Make me more jealous - tell me that the jacket is real sheepskin for under a tenner!!

Happy happy birthday for next week! Do you plan to post or stay well away from the computer and shut off while in Goa? - latter would be perfectly sensible if you ask me but I shall miss your wonderful posts!

  16. Great coat and am adding myself to list of jealous peeps at your annual jaunt!

  18. Wishing you a happy birthday for next week! I hate the cold; we had more snow overnight in Cambs and as my husband had to leave at 5.30am this am to go to Cornwall (he plans on going surfing whilst he is down there, yes, he is that mad), I had to de-ice my own car to get to work = not good! I am not built for it with my nice tidy nails and hair and high heels. I refuse to dress down because of the weather, I just layer well! x

  19. I read about the UK weather. You are dressed to face it, aren't ya?! :) Good Luck with packing. I am already missing you and you haven't even gone yet! :)

  26. Could you pick a better time, Vix? It's so horrrrribly cold and the only thing that's keeping me warm is a long grey leather coat with fox fur collar - which actually looks very much like yours. xxx

  27. That coat is my dream winter coat Vix...stunning. Only you can make cold weather glam!

    ReplyDelete

  31. even my vintage leopard print coat that makes me look like a teddy bear hasn't kept me warm today. I'd forgotten you were off to India so soon so I'll wait until you get back to post the dresses etc. Hopefully it'll help ward off any post-India blues xxx

  32. The dress Cheryl gave you is absolutely lovely, especially the contrasting cuffs. I WISH it would snow in London - it is so depressing when it is just cold and grey. That last picture has me RAGING with jealousy x

  33. Oh vix, take me away!
Isn't it freezing? We only mananged a -8 the other night, but that's more than enough for me. Can't imagine what it's like for you

  38. Oh Vix, I'll miss you when you're gone :(

I can't begrudge you some time in the sun though - it's buggering freezing here at the moment and I imagine anyone in their right mind would want to be somewhere warmer.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Vix, you look so fabulous in that coat. I would die for something as snug and as warm-looking as that! Bet you cannot wait to reach warmer shores! x

  40. That coat is fabulous. I tried on a very similar one a few days ago but it was just too long ( I am a shorty!) it was so lovely and warm and was only £4 I was more than a bit gutted! x

  45. Dear Vixy,
I totally agree with Helga "you may be freezing your tits off but you look fabulous whilst doing so!"
Growing up in Sweden I'm kind of used to freezing winter weather like this & a part of me actually likes it (just call me a masochist).
As long as you don't have to stay outside for too long & you loose all feeling in your fingers & toes.
I love a sunny winters day, when the air is invigoratingly crisp, the sky is crystal blue & the ground is covered in thick snow…. winter wonderland!
We haven't had any snow in the big smoke yet and I have to admit that I’d love some cause I adore making snow angels & snow lanterns.
I hope that you won’t have any weather related problems in getting to the airport; I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you.
    Have a fabby B’day week!
    Lot’s of love,
    Jem
    …xXx
P.s. I popped a little something in the post for you today, should hopefully reach you before you head of to sunnier climes :)

  46. Dear Vix, you look fabulously glamorous in that coat and hat. I am desperate for it to snow as I can't bear all the waiting.

You look so happy at the Big Chill, I have to say I prefer a festival to snow but it might make me feel more Christmassy.

It was wonderful to talk to you today. Can't wait to see you xx

    ReplyDelete
  47. PS. That beach looks AMAZING! What a lovely place to spend your Birthday xx

    ReplyDelete
  48. Oh, a vacation to look forward to would make almost any temperature tolerable. But this sounds seriously cold. I love the grey of the coat with the green of the dress.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Love that coat! Winter is downright ghastly when it slams into you like this, isn't it? Did it have to be so frosty this year?

I've just bought a new coat too, though I got it online so I don't know yet if it's going to be warm enough! Alas. xxx

    ReplyDelete
  50. damn those python boots are hot! never seen anything like that before...

    ReplyDelete
  51. I know you don't like the cold - but without it, you wouldn't have a chance to wear that fab coat and hat! You are lucky you're so tiny and can get all the great deals that nobody else can fit into. That should be incentive enough for me to diet my way back to my own previous semi-tiny self...

Have a wonderful birthday and vacation!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Sooo excited for your trip! It is going to be fab! And you look absolutely James Bond girl-glam in that fur! XX!

    ReplyDelete
  53. What a beautiful coat! suits you so much. Hope you have a great time Goa; it's almost a shame that you won't be able to wear that gorgeous coat there- I'm sure you won't be grieving too much about that though :p

  54. Kudos, that is a coat and a half! Very jealous. Husband has banned buying of new coats (including new-old coats) until I offload some (currently I have: belted mac, cropped faux fur, long faux fur, 'puffa' (for work meh), 70s-socialist-duffel, swing cape, shearling gilet, smart black with furry collar...and that's not including light jackets). I HATE the cold, ironically that's why I have such a choice to wear all winter.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Love your coat Vix! I am so fed up of this cold weather already. Fantastic photo of you and Jon on the beach xxx

    ReplyDelete
  56. Vix you still look so glamourus in the snow/cold. I just look like I've bundle on ALL of my clothes, hehe!
The coat is great and the flash of green from the dress underneath cheers gives it some vibrancy.
I'm sure you will be fine on Friday. But I will keep everything crossed for you for added luck. Will miss your posts but look forward to hearing all about the holiday. x

  57. Eeeeeek!!! How exciting!! I love these sneak peeks of you on the beach in Goa! Perhaps you can schedule one post a week for while your away, just with a single photo from past trips to tease us!

Happy birthday for next week lovely lady!
