Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet of Crisps, Please

We're just popping out for a cheeky midweek pint, I need it. I'm feeling emotionally drained from watching the footage of the Chilean miners' rescue and I could do with a break from the goggle box before The Apprentice.

I thought I'd wear the 1960's cape dress I bought from The Vintage Village at last year's Clothes Show Live.

The lovely Jazz asked whether wearing a cape was uncomfortable when she commented on Monday's blog post. To be honest it's tricky knowing what to do with your arms so I usually make like the Queen and get Jon to put my purse in his coat pocket.

Jazz also wondered if I had any costly clothes in my wardrobe. This outfit is expensive by my standards - the dress was £15 and the boots were £20. The silver breast plate was a birthday present last year.

I've got a girly day planned tomorrow visiting the charity shops of a nearby footballer's wives town and a Wetherspoon's pub lunch. Hopefully they'll be goodies to report back on.

  6. What a splendiferous dress! Anyone as gorgeous as you definitely deserves a handy male around to hold your purse.

I wish I wasn't stuck at work and could watch coverage of the miner's release. I've been following it on the news and radio all along and it's a tad irritating not to see the important part!

  15. I bet you've got quite a few expensive items in your wardrobe - just you didn't pay so much for them! A cape requires a bit of attitude, like having someone else carry your handbag... Enjoy your pint, Vix! xxx

Your hair is looking beautiful, and lovely pic of you smiling at the end.

  20. this may be the most beautiful outfit I've seen so far. LOVE the cape style dress with the all black legs and shoes and the statement necklace!
We just heard the miners got out. Rod just told me, I don't listen to national news ( too skewed here, only listen to BBC, which I haven't done for a long time )
Have a pint for me! (I miss having a drink once in a while, darn liver ;)

  26. Dear Vix,
That colour looks mighty fine you.
The print is fabulous & the cut is awesome,
    I love it!
I popped down to one of my local charity shops today; one that I used to frequent very often cause when we first moved here nothing in the shop was ever priced above £2.50; sadly all that changed a few years ago after the shop had a hairy Mary Portas stylee makeover.
Now they are charging £4.50 for a used faux-leather handbag made in China, that you can probably get in the Primark sale for a quid.
So gone are the days of me leaving that shop laden with goodies :(
I did buy a book for a friends kid though; The Marshall illustrated encyclopaedia of animals for £2.
Hope you have better luck in sourcing out bargain goodies tomorrow, have a flair- & fun filled day my dear!
    Lot’s of love,
    Jem

  31. I've only had time so far to watch one of the miners come up -- but even that one had me in tears. I should check on the so exquisitely slow progress of this effort.

I wonder what kind of charity shop items would be available near a footballers' wives town? Do you expect interesting vintage or not-so-interesting contemporary bling?

  32. oh, vix! thank-you for answering both my questions, it's so kind of you! brilliant idea to let john hold your purse and hopefully bags full of bargains! :) weirdly enough, your post title is my all time favourite programme, two pints of lager and a packet of crisps! maybe it's a sign? hehe.

you look so lovely in the last shot, the breast plate is wonderful! looking forward to seeing what you pick up in the charity shops! xxx

  34. Dear Vix, the dress is a fabulous shape! I never have pockets on any of my clothes. I think any excuse for a midweek pint personally. Hope you had a great afternoon. I love The Apprentice too. My neighbours are having the upstairs windows painted now. They've moved the scaffolding which has stopped my Sky dish working! I nearly had a nervous breakdown yesterday when I realised. Thank God for the internet! I hope it's all back to normal by the weekend. You don't realise how much you miss it 'til it's gone xx

  35. You sure have many wonderful printed dress.
This isn't a color I normally wear but it really looks great on you. It's vibrant and your smile just makes me like it more :D

  40. You make wearing a Cape Dress look easy. I think I would get quite tangled in it! The colors are a striking contrast to your beautiful hair color...

Quite an unusual breast plate. Don't know that I've ever seen such a thing!

  46. What an absolutely fab dress it looks perfect with the necklace! I find capes really annoying with regards to bags, you can really only do a clutch or bowling bag but hey who needs to be practical!

  47. That dress is fantastic. I've never seen a cape dress on but the style totally works for you. Hope you enjoyed your drink or two! x

  48. I want your wardrobe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes... that was amazing drama...and reading about how they only started talking about (in a joking manner) cannibalism after the rescuers had made contact chilled me to the bone. Plus the 'Casanova Nurse'... what a legend! And the hero of it all. Movie coming out soon???
