And so to day 3 of Kitty's hair-styling challenge and today it's curly.
As any woman of my age will know curls instantly bring back memories of the awful 1980's and the ubiquitous spiral wave.
Today's criteria was as follows:
1. Brushes and combs, as required
2. Hairspray OR setting lotion OR a similar substitute that works for you
3. ONE kind of curling method. This could be rollers and pins, hot sticks (whatever they are), a curling wand...or anything else that works for you that I may not be aware of.
Vintage off-the-shoulder blouse (Car Boot Sale 50p), Customised shorts and wood mules (Jumble sale, 20p per piece), Goldette 1950's pendant (Salvation Army 99p), Hair Flower (Presented free with a curry), Gilt hoop earrings (Found in the depths of my jewellery stash) |
As mentioned previously I'm rather low maintenance, Lush's Karma solid shampoo and Jungle conditioner and a wide toothed comb are my haircare repertoire. I don't possess any styling products. For my waves (curls are nigh on impossible) I used my Babyliss curling irons but got fed up halfway through and pinned the remainder up.
A bit 1950's perhaps?
Kitty's done another magnificent job, pop over and check out her 1950's pin curls.

Wow, you look fab! I can't get over that photo I just can't relate it to you, it's hard to imagine you as anything other than a beautiful brunette!

The curls are lovely! That's exactly the kind of curl I try to achieve every time I work on my hair with my tongs, but it so rarely comes out like that!
ReplyDeleteLove the shorts too! *sighs* I feel such nostalgia for the summer.

I think your locks are lovely:)
ReplyDeleteMy hair does NOT hold a curl..perhaps too long, or it weighs too much....
Have a fabulous day!

Love your hair do! :)
ReplyDeleteYou are AS HOT as you were back in 1985! Love the blode avatar as well!
You look so different with blonde hair. Blonde may be your natural colour but somehow dark hair looks right for you. Love those mules, worn with the shorts they show off your fabulous legs to perfection. xxx
ReplyDeleteYou loook soooo beautiful!!! I wore my hair in a vintage hair style today tooo!! What a coincidence!!! Yours is sooo much cuter with the flower in it though!!!

My hair is about 3cm long so a curl is out of the question. Yours is too long to curl properly but how about the perm??? Not too many accessories in those days - a very pared-down look. When did you go more "arty"?
ReplyDeleteMy hair refuses to hold even a wave - very jealous of this relaxed, beachy style! Love the flower too. x
ReplyDeleteOMG, I refuse to believe that blond girl is you - for a sec, I thought its Jennifer Grey:-) I like loose curls like you have done..and I love this top of yours!!
ReplyDeleteToday's hair do looks really natural and I like the loose waves. Your photo brings back memories, as I had a perm in '85 too, although yours looked better than mine, as mine came out too tight - not a good look!
ReplyDeleteOhhhh blondeness!!
ReplyDeleteI do like you dark and sultry though ;)
Really loving the do today Vix
xx
Love this look! I had a spiral perm too but it went abit wrong and i ended up looking like Leo Sayer :) Have a great evening xxx
ReplyDeleteI think curls look lovely but are very had to produce and ultimately maintain, I never seem to be able to get them to stay in place.
ReplyDeleteI love your honesty in this challenge, and it’s nice to see a snippet from the past, I would have never known you were a natural blonde. And the flower is gorgeous xx
Wow! what a difference a hair color makes. You look very sultry with dark hair that it's hard to imagine you as a blonde. That perm was hot back in the day and that's a great picture of you. Love your hairstyling challenge!

Great look top to toe! How you can rock shorts. Love that blouse!! You were blonde? That's amazing!
ReplyDeleteLove your perm photo - can't believe you are a natural blonde as I'm so used to you with your black hair. I'm a natural blonde but look rubbish if I went dark. The curls you did are understated and your outfit is wonderful!

ReplyDeleteI can't believe you are a natural blonde!!!Love the Athena posters on the wall too....memories!
ReplyDeleteI think you've done a great job Vix! And WOW you're a natural blond..and had a perm! I had a perm too :) xxx
ReplyDelete50p for that blouse, what a great deal! The UK is notoriously expensive (at least to us Americans), but I'm starting to think you guys get better deals on the vintage goods : ). I love this outfit.
ReplyDeleteAnd the hair is cute too. It's got the vintage vibe, without trying too hard.

Love this look Vix, love the makeup it really suits you. Do you mind sending me your measurements pls? if you don't mind, I want to send you a pressie! Email me at waycelia (at) hotmail (dot) com or comment on mine, thx.xx.
ReplyDeleteOh I had that perm too - didn't everyone back then? Did you used to hang your head upside down, spray a can of hairspray on then whoosh back up again? Voila! Even BIGGER curls! And boofy hair! I have no patience for hair either - that's what hats are for;). Your top is beautiful xo
ReplyDeleteA natural blonde??? To me you are a natural dark-head, Vix. I love the black hair on you and these soft curls are very flattering. 50s? Don't know. Bit 70s maybe... xxx
ReplyDeleteMy god the perms of the eighties. I once had one that made my hair square and of course, the obligatory afro comb to go with. I have a picture somewhere of me in my square perm that took about 18 months to grow out: awful!
ReplyDeleteYou've done a great job with your hair and I love the outfit ... ;0)

PS2: Thank you for being my first follower ever, I'm sure it gave me luck!
Especially love your make up in today's post. I have to say that it is hard to imagine you as yourself in 1985 but I am sure we all find that as we evolve and change as we go through life xx
ReplyDeletea natural blonde! you look perfectly lovely with whatever color. you look fetching with your wammo bammo eyelashes. you really caked it aye? you look lolita and sweet. i would agree with 50's too, you need a greaser accessorie complete with cigs rolled up in his white t-shirt cap.
ReplyDeleteMy hair is naturally quite curly but I add a blob of mousse to help them stay in place.
ReplyDeleteLove your curls! You look so different blonde.
