Orange Pop

Orange is one of my all-time favourite colours, especially on a grey day when an acid bright injection of colour is just the thing to lift the spirits. I was pleased to find this frock for just 99p on my road trip yesterday.

One of my hand-made floral head-dresses with Orange Pop lipgloss, Barry M's Tangerine Nail Paint, a couple of second-hand bangles and the 1960's perspex ring Mum wore when she was expecting me.

They don't look very orange here but my marigolds are really vibrant normally.

Good old Gilbert

Some of our 1960's art glass, a vintage Smith's clock with a 1966 "Horses In Red" Boots' print and some beautiful lillies from one of my dinner guests.

Some of our collection of 1960's ceramics.

The shelving unit was a car boot find, surprise, surprise!

Thanks so much for your kind messages of sympathy and support yesterday.
Please don't ever think I'm a misery. Like my home, my blog's a happy, smiley place where visitors are always welcome and I promise to keep it that way.

Vintage St Michael sun dress (99p ExtraCare), 1980's Italian suede boots (£4.99 British Heart Foundation), brass bangles with turquoise and coral (inherited), Suede bag (Indian street market), Orange prayer beads (Alleppey, Kerala)

Hooray for windy summer days so my new purchases can be washed and worn within hours of finding them.

  1. Misery is the LAST word I'd use to describe you! You're such a cheerful, happy, inspiring person. Much like this post - what a fabulous colour pop to brighten a grey day!

Good old Gilbert indeed. I love him! x

  2. You are definitely allowed to grieve publicly for Lucy. That's not being a misery.

Why isn't Gilbert called Gylbert? And if he were would that make him French or Welsh? Just a thought.

I love orange too! I think I prefer it to red sometimes!

  19. Dear Vix,
I’d be more worried if you never have the odd “downer day”…maybe it’s just me but I’m deeply suspicious of people who proclaim they are perpetually happy…what are they androids!?
Life occasionally throws things at us that will inevitably bring about a phase of sadness & I believe the best way to work through it is to allow yourself to express how you REALLY feel instead of papering over the cracks, pretending all is well & keeping up appearances.
No ones life is like a breakfast cereal advert where everybody’s smiling all the time & nothing ever goes wrong.
I don’t for a moment think that your readers deem anything less that cheerful out of bounds; they are your reader’s cause they love you just the way you are…regardless of you feeling happy or not so happy or even occasionally sad.
You’ve had to cope with a lot over the past few months and it’s a real credit to you that you have managed to keep so positive through it all; Vix, you are an inspiration to us all on so many different levels, THANK YOU!
I love your outfit today too, orange such a great colour on you, you look like a 70s beach goddess.
    Take care my love,
    JEM

  23. oh Vix, I am so sorry about your kitty. It is a very sad thing to leave a loved one. I still long for my Boy, Rex after 3 yrs. but I know he is on the other side somewhere waiting patiently for me. Bitty hasn't been her usual self as of late, and Rod and I are kinda preparing in our own way, to finally send her on as well. My vet once said that it is a great thing for us to be able to allow our pets to not have to suffer. My heart is with you.

  24. Vix, you and the word misery don't go hand in hand. We all have moments in life when we need to let things out, and need peoples support. That's what the blogging world is (or should) be all about.

The dress looks lovely on you, very pocahontas! :)

And Gilbert is lush isn't he. Andy is buying VW world religiously and drooling over campers. One day...

    X xx

  27. What a fantastic blog and what great finds you get to wear!! And about misery, you are allowed to grieve, to be sad or happy or anything. I doubt you would make anyone miserable with such colourful blog. Love your cat forever, love your blog and yourself, you're doing a great thing here xxxx

(I have red in my hair and don't suit orange at all)
