I braved the spiders in Dad's cellar at the weekend and found the long-forgotten 1966 Raleigh RSW 16 of my childhood. Yesterday morning was spent riding up and down the lawn reacquainting myself with it's quirks and today I've tackled the main road to visit the local shop.
Over the years it's lost the green tartan holdall from the back, I'll have to trawl the boot sales and eBay for a suitably kitsch replacement.
Cycling and maxi dresses don't go well together, thankfully it's still warm enough for shorts.
I was thrilled to win the lovely Lisa's blog giveaway. Look at how prettily packaged my parcel was.
Here's the amazing contents.
A Tunnock's Tea Cake tea towel (try saying that after a few), a vintage tea towel, a beautiful Hornsea cruet, a handmade dishcloth, some herbal tea bags, a gorgeous lustre ware tea cup and saucer, a pretty gypsy caravan card and a hippy-tastic skirt. There were also some Tunnock's Tea cakes but a certain someone had a hangover yesterday and scoffed the lot, bad boy.
Hope you've had a fantastic weekend.
That's really cool that the bike is still big enough for you! Lovely outfit (cheapest yet?!), just right for the crazy weather.
ReplyDeleteHope your Dad is improving x
Well done in winning the giveaway too x
ReplyDeleteLook at that I am 1st off the commenting rank yay me and yay you looking as groovy as ever and how lucky to have a hoarding dad,Have a wonderful day VV I am off to bed xxx
ReplyDeleteCan't believe that bike has been in the attic - so glad you rescued it.
ReplyDeleteYou'll really look the part once you get a bag for it.
Isn't this weather a lovely treat - extra time with your favourite clothes.
I LOVE Tunnock's teacakes, and the packaging is so stylish. I'd have beat Jon to them and left him with six neatly smoothed out wrappers - I never tear them open (same for creme eggs!).
Have fun cycling in the sun,
Lucy x
damn I am 3rd not 1st mate ya gotta be quick around here lol
ReplyDeleteI used to have a similar bike, oh the memories ;). You look lovely :) xx
ReplyDeleteDearest Vix,
ReplyDeleteI love that bike, we had a similar one at my folks summerhouse that I used to cycle on in my youth...I'm not sure if they've still got it? When I was over in Sweden last time I noticed that old style bikes with sensible saddles have come back in, the more retro they look the more expensive they are, the sturdy old postmen’s bikes are like gold dust when revamped. Mark cycles everyday but I'm too scared to brave the aggressive London traffic. I love your new boots too, they look perfect teamed with that fab crochet waistcoat. BTW with legs like yours, I'd be wearing mini's & hotpants more often...Yowza woman!
Lot's of love,
Jennie
xXx
Oh so cute!! I so wish my folks had kept stuff like yours did. Am looking forward to seeing some action pics next please!! Ha!
ReplyDeleteHow lovely that your parents kept your bike of your teenage years! Sounds like you have had a nice time re-aquainting yourself with it.
ReplyDeleteWell done on the giveaway. Cool a Tunnocks teacake towel. I love the design on those.
Loved your dress on your last post too. Just gorgeous!

ReplyDeleteHi my dear!! The bike is wonderful, I remember my bike as a teen with the tartan carrier on the back too!! Love your cycling outfit, so perfect for the sunshine and for riding!! xxxx
ReplyDeleteLook at you and your legs!! Only you could look that foxy on that bike.

ReplyDeleteSecondly great bike! I had a chopper as a kid and I loved it. Great that you can still use it, it would be well sort after now I bet.
How's your dad doing? On the mend I hope.
X x
Oh VIX you look SUPER on your little bike! I saw a blue one in a charity shop back home with little cream coloured wheels, it was love at first sight but I did wonder how I would manage to wheel it back to Bristol so in the chazzer it stayed, boo hoo :( You look wonderful on it and I'm happy to see those wonderful boots out in force once more.
ReplyDeleteHope your dad is feeling better and Jons hangover has now subsided!
Much love xxxxxxxx
wow that bike looks smashing, i bet it brought back so many memories x
ReplyDeleteYou look great on your bike and well done on your lovely win!
ReplyDeleteDoes she (the bike- I assume it's a she!) have a name?
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous giveaway!!!
Hee, cute bike! I used to have a cool 70s folding bike but I sold it as it languished in the cupboard when I was too scared to ride it on the roads. Having buses and bikes in the same lane is a terrible idea!
ReplyDeleteHope you find just the right replacement bag x
"My God your bicycle is stunning, I love it an have never seen one quite like it around here."
ReplyDeleteI love your outfit & that belt is cute.
The package you got from the blog giveaway is lovely. *So many pretty things*

I remember those bikes! You look great as usual :D when I was out op shopping(It Was Suesday) with City Sue we saw a vintage dress I held it up and we both went 'Vix' we knew it would have looked great on you :D
ReplyDeleteHow cool that your bike was stored away, its soo retro! I've bought a pair of rollerboots! I'm hoping that it will be a fun form of exercise to help me lose weight. xxx

ReplyDeleteYou even look glamorous on a bike! It's very cool that the bike is still the right size, although I wish it still had the tartan holdall (awesome!). You look great in shorts, and I love the vest & gold belt.

ReplyDeleteAriane xxxxxx
Soooooo adorable! Love everything!xo
ReplyDeleteThese are Amazing pictures! I Looove those boots!
ReplyDeleteWow that bike looks in perfect condition. Hope you find your tartan bag.
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute bike! I love vintage bikes:D I wish I was brave enough to use one as a form of transport, but I just get so nervous biking around cars. I really love your vest - I did macrame as a teenage and one of the books I had included a pattern for a vest like yours and I thought it was just so rad:) I was never brave enough to tackle such a big project though and stuck to the pot plant holders.
ReplyDeleteAWW, bike envy! I love a retro bike - I want a chopper but they are rather expensive. I tried raiding my parental garage but all I discovered what that my mum had appropriated my early 1990s pink girl bike and now cycles to bridge club on it.
ReplyDeleteI may just have to buy one - mind you I don't want to buy a nicked one by accident which is always a risk with second hand.
Fab bike - goes to show things were built to last years ago.
ReplyDeleteI remember my Grandma's best friend has one of those in red - she'd cycle miles on it - very hard with those little wheels.
Ha! I have the very same bike, in blue, in my shed!
ReplyDeleteOoh, memories...will have to scan photos of it I think. Me and Willie, (Wilhelmina), in our party dresses trying to ride my birthday pressie! Boring white box, not tartan tho'.
I have a blog award for you.
