Village Life

After a three month break, yesterday took us back to Stockport for the monthly extravaganza that is Vintage Village

Can you believe dithered over this cheesecloth kaftan for at least 20 minutes before I handed over my cash? Tassels, patchwork, made in the 1970s, designed by Jeff Banks and for little more than a round in Wetherspoons, what could be more perfect?

After a bit of Googling I discovered an identical dress in the V&A.

A white cheesecloth kaftan on a drab, cold and soggy September day. I'm definitely visible for Patti's weekly link-up if not slightly mad.

Stockport was rocking yesterday. It was Vintage Village's 5th birthday party, the sun was shining and there was dancing in the streets.

Vintage party wear was the suggested dress code and Stockport regulars and very dear friends of Kinky, Lynn (who blogs HERE) & dapper husband Phil certainly didn't disappoint. They're on the best dressed list every month.

Lynn wearing a  fab 1960s Crimplene two-piece and fab Orla Kiely for Clarks' shoes, Phil in a stunner of 1970s jacket and Crocket & Jones shoes from Kinky Melon
After our prolonged absence our loyal regulars were keen to shop our stock. The rails were looking a bit sparse by late afternoon.

The weather was glorious, perfect for showcasing the sexy classic cars parked outside.

There really are some amazing things to buy, no handicrafts or repro, Vintage Village is strictly vintage.

Prices vary from high end to cheap and cheerful. £50 could buy you bagfuls of bargains or one museum quality piece. There really is something for everyone.

The £2 entrance fee means that visitors come to buy rather than reminisce and to pass the time when they're waiting for a bus. I don't mind the odd trip down memory lane but hours and hours of people telling me about what they used to have, how it all went to the charity shop and that they'd be worth a fortune if only they'd kept it all really does do my head in.

This seller had the right idea.

Everything from industrial chic, taxidermy, traditional and the downright weird. If I didn't already trade at Stockport I'd be up here every month as a customer.

It was great to be back up North.

The legendary Pies bridge, passing under it means we've left the Midlands.
See you in October, Stockport!

JON: John Collier safari jacket, skinnied-up Gabicci trousers, Austin Reed waistcoat, Tootal scarf and Desert boots (all vintage), modern leather Baker Boy cap (End of the Road)  ME: Psychedelic 1960s Ian Peters catsuit (from the Liverpool collection, see HERE)
We're off to V Dubs in the Valley this weekend, the last festival of the season and the thermals are already packed.

See you soon!
