Three Days of Me!

Hello!!

When Jon told me he was off on a tip run on Tuesday morning, I hadn't planned on tagging along, but he lured me with the promise of looking around the charity shops nearby so I threw on the nearest thing to hand and luckily it looked okay.

We found a USA-made Rangers top, a 1990s Antoni & Alison tweed coat, a limited edition FC Mallorca Kappa footie shirt, a Moschino sweatshirt (with holograms, not a Turkish knock-off) and this fabulous 100% wool Nepali knitted jacket, which went straight into Jon's wardrobe.

On Monday we started Irish cop drama, Blackshore, and watched the rest on Tuesday night. It's a compelling watch with a strong and convincing female lead and there's enough loose ends for a second series (I hope!) Blue Lights fans will recognise a couple of characters.

Wednesday kicked off with a swim and, once again I managed to do a mile in 42 minutes.

It was dry when we left the house at just after 7am but when we left the baths it was peeing it down and barely light...on days like these, anyone who claims to love the Winter seriously needs to give their head a wobble.

I felt the need for some eye-searing psychedelia, reaching for this vintage 1970s maxi I'd scored on Vinted last year for £5.

We had a mooch around the chazzas and, for the stockroom, I found a couple more of the deadstock Hype rave tops along with this lovely 1950s rayon day dress.

Jon wanted something to rest his drink on when he's sitting on the new sofa so we popped into B&M and found this Mid-Century inspired table for £6.

I've done well with secondhand books this week. I think I might start Dictator by Robert Harris (I've read all but two of his novels, I bloody love him!) after I've finished my Hester Stanhope biography, I feel the need to get lost in Ancient Rome.

It took William 24 hours to trust the settee, sitting on the arm of my chair, eyeing it up with suspicion....but it's finally met with his approval and he spent a large part of the day on it. I found those Frida cushion covers on Vinted last year (a set of five for £8).

With the rain showing no signs of stopping, taking Vinted photos outside was out of the question so I cracked on with my repurposing part of the old sofa project.

Wednesday was, as usual, rum and cola night. We watched Parasite, the South Korean film which won the Oscar for Best Film in 2019 and upset Trump (HERE) which is as good a reason as any to watch it. It was superb, darkly humorous and great fun.

Thursday was another grim day, cold with incessant rain and, with no desire to venture further than the bin, I spent most of the day sewing. A house day calls for a housecoat..although I wear this fabulous 1970s wool number (a gift from friends G'n'T many years ago) to go out in, too!

Thanks for reading, see you soon!

  1. As I blocked out that four year nightmare, I hadn't heard his diatribe against Parasite, a fantastic movie. I'm glad William knows the respect deserved; kitty fodder. There's so many books here I could read for years, but I still love a good explore.

    1. It's probably for the best, I wish we could ignore him, too - he's dominating the news lately although after his latest diatribe I think even his British knuckle-dragging fans are getting sick of him! Xxx

  2. Good find with the Rangers jersey. Is there a name on the back? The name can affect the value.

    Thanks for the book suggestions.

    1. I've just checked and no name! Jon lives researching all the sportswear he finds, he'd never wear it butoves how much some of it fetches.
Robert Harris is such a great writer, he even makes subjects I have zero interest in (ie., religion) interesting. Conclave is spectacular!

  3. OOo I love the Frida pillows, I was just looking out for some the other week. I also remember watching Parasite in the movies, it was very good. X

I remember you writing about Parasite when you saw it at the cinema! X

  4. Those big boots look comfy. 42 minutes for a mile is excellent. Does your pool do lessons? ours does stroke improvement classes, I did some last year and had so much fun trying out new stuff. Ive swapped my swim regime for two power pump classes and a swim at the weekend, change is as good as a rest as they say. The little coffee table goes well with your new sofa. I put sheepskin on ours to break Mollie's scratch habit, it worked. Will take a look at Blackshore, anything you recommend is always good! Betty

    1. Thanks, Betty. I've been struggling with my arthritic feet and unoperated hip for a while. I Googled "Most comfortable but cool looking boots for women UK" and these popped up.
You're so good with your fitness, a proper inspiration. We loved Blackshore, the actor who plays Ffion is so good! Xxx

    2. PS Great tip about the sheepskin throw deterring Mollie's sofa scratching. I picked up a suede coat I'd scored on Vinted and hour ago, Williams already made it into a nest!

  5. Parasite is a brilliant film isn't it, and I think it may be worth watching again now that I know Trump hates it so much. Nice to see William still intent on savaging the idiotic orange one. ;-)

Now that William has approved the new sofa as suitable, everything is right with the world.

    1. We loved Parasite, it had shades of Saltburn, another splendid watch. Yes, knowing the orange one hated it made it even more enjoyable...I wonder what his idea of a great film would be ..answers on a postcard...xxx

  6. That housecoat is far too beautiful to be limited to the house! Aren’t these dark days miserable? I’m finding it very hard to motivate myself. Your house looks so welcoming, a rum and coke and a place on the gorgeous sofa sounds perfect. Xx

    1. Thanks, Louise. I love how vintage housecoats were so glamorous, a huge improvement on fleece onesies and grey dressing gowns.
Its been so miserable lately, it never seems to get light! Xxx

  7. So many delightful things you found, in spite of the weather. Loved hearing about the Irish Cop show! Great shirts for Jon's wardrobe. Oh, so many unique and pretty things you have. A delight to find out what you are up to. Parasite is one of my favorite films. Since many who were in it I am fans of their K-dramas. Thank you for being here & Thanks for your comments!

    1. Thanks so much, Ellie! Parasite was such a great film, we loved it. Other than reading Island of the Sea Women by Lisa See, I'm woefully uninformed about Korean culture. Xxx

  8. Who hasn't upset the orange one...mantrums. I am now checking the forecast to see if there are any dry bits during the day...am staying local so that we can get out when the rain stops. Got lucky today because it gave me a whole hour in which I could do a 5k run. Hurrah. Arilx

    1. Mantrums, I love that! Hasn't it been bleak lately? I've very impressed with your running, it must be very frustrating when the rain holds you back from doing what you enjoy! X

  9. The plaid coat! How lovely it is.
The photo with the blue sofa, the green wall in the background, and the table with the books looks very tasteful.

You're so right... even I'm giving up this winter, I can't take it anymore. Ugh.

    Have a nice weekend.

    1. Thanks, Andrea. Those rare days when there's blue sky, sunshine and crisp temperatures are beautiful but sadly, most of this Winter is nothing but rain and endless darkness.
Hope your weekend is fantastic! Xxx

  10. I'm trying very hard to appreciate this season, but it's really wearing thin now.
It's been a difficult month for me, 10 years since my operation, and Bowie leaving us. But I'm so grateful to be still here, and I have loads of plans for the coming year.
I adore your new sofa, it's perfect in your house, and the little table is a fantastic find.
Vinted is a godsend when the weather is too dreary for even the lure of a bit of chazzing.
I'm really enjoying your videos, they really do show outfits off to their best. I still haven't cracked Tiktok, so I'm really happy you're putting them up here too. xx

    1. Hello Annie! Tell me about it, I'm fine with the cold but the relentless rain and grey skies are so trying, aren't they?
I'm sorry its been a difficult month for you. We were in a hotel room in Mumbai when Tony messaged Jon to tell him about Bowie. When we got to Goa the manager of the hut we were stying in had never heard of him so we spent a few nights introducing him to his music.
I'm so happy with the sofa, it's a very welcome shot of colour.
You're right about Vinted being a godsend. I managed to buy what looks like an amazing 1970s psychedelic dress yesterday, I had no need for it but at £5 I couldn't resist! xxx

  14. Hi Vix, well done on your recent finds. I especially like the Antoni & Alison tweedy coat- really cute. I have picked up the odd piece of theirs at the charity shops. I am impressed with your £6.00 B & M side table too, you never quite know what things they will have. My favourite piece though has to be your stunning belt- a real keeper. Belts are often overlooked items these days I find in the way they can transform an outfit and provide shape and detail to one’s outfit. I am fed up of these grey, wet days too. Roll on the spring!

    1. Thanks, Alysia! I remember one of the magazines in the early 1990s having an offer for an Antoni & Alison teeshirt with a 1970s inspired print you could send away for, I wore it to death! The coat is lovely, I was tempted to keep it.
That belt was one of the first things I bought from a charity shop when we came out of lockdown, I had to queue for 40 minutes to hand over my 50p! You're right, belts always add a bit of individuality to an outfit, leather ones are one of my favourite things to look for when I'm treasure hunting.
Oh, for some blue sky and sunshine! We've just lit the fire! xxx

Also lovely to see you looking fabulous whatever the weather, and really colourful and stylish too!. Love your psychedelic dress and love that last fab one too!
Sorry that the weather has been so damn annoying, same here (even if not so cold). Your little videos are a mood booster, dear Vix!

  16. I think even people who say they like winter aren't thinking of the daytimes with relentless rain. But I know I don't like it; bring on the warmer weather!

If you're reading books set in Rome, I really didn't like the Conn Iggulden one I read because he plays around with major historical events. I've nothing against a bit of creative leeway, but if he's going to write a book about Caesar he might as well stick to the major facts about him and other historical characters! I do love Lindsey Davies' books though.

I've not heard of Conn Iggulden so I shall keep my eyes peeled in the chazzas! X
