Boo Radley! Charity Shop Joy - Gingham Style

You may have noticed from yesterday's post that I've a bit of a gingham thing going on so when I spotted some red checked fabric peeking out from a rail at the usually disappointing Scope charity shop in town this morning I got very excited.

My excitement escalated when I pulled out the hanger and spotted the label.

Radley was a British clothing company in existence from the 1960s to the 1980s which featured designs by Ossie Clark and Alice Pollack.

This dress isn't attributed to anyone but it's pretty damned gorgeous - 100% cotton, early 1970s, with bows, buttons & a Broderie Anglaise petticoat. It fits like a dream and it was FIVE frickin' POUNDS! That's less than Scope usually charge for last year's New Look and Next.

You know your chazza find is a success when you change into it as soon as you get home and frolic round doing the chores like a woman demented.

I've already taken a few dresses out of my wardrobe to make room. I've a feeling this is going to get worn to death so keep your eye on the Kinky Melon website for an influx of maxis later this week.

I can't wait to see what treasures await at the car boot sale tomorrow and Thursday (that's if it stays dry).

Radley dress worn with a stack of second-hand bangles and a Frida Kahlo necklace handmade by fabulous Tamera.
Hair inspiration by gorgeous Tania
For those who asked, our weekend sandwiches were veggie Cheddar on crusty bread.
Tonight's dinner is Pacha Thakkali Mezhkkupuratti (Keralan-style sautéed green tomatoes) with steamed rice and I'm off to eat it.

See you soon.

  8. Oh Vix, this dress is so beautiful! When I was little I had a lemon sundress with the same hem gathering and petticoat underneath, I absolutely adored it!

  9. Oh Vix it's so lovely and frolicky, I am definitely most partial to a bit of gingham. I think we've all done the whip home try a dress on a swooned about in own glory.

I was thinking its a good thing you're not my neighbour (although it would be secretly fabulous) with you hanging goodies on the clothesline. I might make me tempted to be a petty thief. Well nah I seriously would never do that but, I'm sure I'd waste a lot of time peeking through my curtains.

Cheddar sandwiches huh, there you go. I initially thought you meant Vegemite and Cheddar but then realised what you had meant and that you've possibly never had our Australian Vegemite spread.

  10. Whoa your hair is FLIPPING AWESOME!
You look as lovely as ever in that dress. It's so cute I would want to wear it all the time too.

    I wish I had a bloody clothesline.
The next place I move either must have one... or have a place I can put one. *hehe*

  12. Ooh, Radley - very nice! What a fabulous frock, it fits you perfectly! Loving the gingham style, and a fiver? You're right, chazzas ask that for tatty high street crap. Yesterday, I looked at (and put back sharpish) a bobbly Primark cardigan, priced up at £4.99!
Of course it does help that you have the most toned arms ever (NOT freaky!) and a beautiful tan and Tania-inspired Señorita hair. Gorgeous!
Now what is that fabric you are hanging on the line? It's wonderful. Is it a curtain? Are you going to make something out of it?
Good luck with the curating tomorrow and Thursday, you Gingham Goddess! xxxxx

  13. Hi Vix,
The dress is lovely and it fits like it was made for you. I'm a bit of a gingham gal too as I have two summer checked shirts that are nicely fitted.
Love Ossie Clark clothes as well.
Hard to find his stuff these days as they can be very expensive.
Great to see you looking good doing your chores!
    Enjoy the spring sun.

  37. I am laughing to myself knowing that you were asked what kind of sandwiches you had the other day, because as I was lying in bed drifting off to sleep last night I was wondering the same thing. There you go ... Your sandwiches were the last thing I thought about yesterday! Lol.

This dress is fantastic. Nice to see it's warm enough to go barefoot there. I was still clad in a flannel shirt, buttoned up jacket, scarf, hat and gloves, for my walk in the lark today. But soon, very soon. It's the anticipation that makes something extra sweet right?!
