At long last Summer's finally made an appearance and I've been able to give the parasol I picked up on my Indian adventures back in April it's maiden outing.
Let's hope it'll be out a lot more in the coming weeks.
I made this skirt this morning from a retro bed cover (last seen HERE) & a groovy 1972 McCall's dressmaking pattern kindly sent my way by Liz. Considering we started boozing just after 6pm last night I'm pretty amazed I managed to knock up anything remotely wearable.
This is the bikini top I bought on Friday, I think it's part of a fancy dress costume but in my book nothing could possibly be too fancy for everyday wear.
Barry M Turquoise worn with rings from Krista, Miss Magpie & Heather. |
Bikini top (75p, Acorns Hospice), Handmade maxi skirt (made from a 70s bed cover, £1.50, car boot sale), Rajasthani parasol (£4, India) |
Off to catch up with some blogs before I eat my fourth curry in as many days.
Hope your weekend have been as good as ours.
See you soon.
PS I'm featured on Janet's blog today, HERE! She's gorgeous, her house & garden are to die for, she's a vegan and loves Jack White & if you haven't met her already then you're missing out.

you're like a colorful siren under the sun!, so pretty and fabulous, love your parasol and that floral maxi skirt!, and that turquoise nail color is amazing!
ReplyDeletebesos & sun
Wonderful to have the sun, eh? And lovely and colourful you are in it too. I am very taken with the parasol. It's very pretty. Lots of the Nepalese ladies carry them here and I always think they are a great idea and a somewhat sophisticated accessory. Have a terrific week.xxxxx
ReplyDeleteYou've bloomed, full-on flower! I can't believe you knocked out that skirt when you were knackered. I thought that was the bikini top that you made a while ago...great find. Where are the cabana boys? Oh, wait, you've already got the best one. I hope you get drunk on that lovely, lovely sunshine. You remind me of Miss Simmonds' painting in this gorgeous attire with the parasol.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a beautiful parasol. Don't you just love the fabric! You look like a ray of sunshine all by yourself. And those rings.......!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteJust love that parisol.Very unique looking.Great job on your skirt.Love it.You look like a little tropical doll.xx
ReplyDeleteI love curry, I could eat it everyday too. I'll make one tomorrow I think and wash it down with a cool beer. Isn't this weather fabulous? Especially as I thought we were doomed to rain forevermore! I love that parasol, it's beautiful. Xx
ReplyDeleteAs always looking fab Missy! You look more at home in the sunshine :)
ReplyDeleteA very sunny outfit. I love that bikini top, sitting in the garden in the sun should be glam! I didn't have to work this weekend, so it's been a good one for me! x
ReplyDeleteLoving the flower power! Skirt is so pretty and you look fab! we're having the heat, unfortunately with no sun here in Belfast, can you send some over please! xx

Firstly after reading your blog all I want now is a curry! Love the sunshine outfit, and well done you for making that lovely maxi skirt even with a slight hangover ;)
ReplyDeleteFinally, the sun is out!
ReplyDeleteThat outfit is very daring and a lot of fun too! I hope you are enjoying the remainders of this warm and sunny Sunday :)
The sun is shining and so are YOU! x
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you finally get some sunshine, it sounds like summer has been very unfair to the UK this year! I love the skirt, especially the ruffle at the bottom:)
ReplyDeleteAwesome umbrella. You sew really well, for someone who claims to have no skills. I supervisor theatre students in the costume class, and I'm shocked sometimes that they can't even thread a needle and have a difficult time sewing on a button! Your creations always look nicely finished.
ReplyDeleteYour parasol is beautiful. I`d love to sit in the sun with a parasol.
ReplyDeleteLove your skirt too Vix. I`m going to get myself a few clothes patterns and attempt to make something to wear. Great idea to use a bed cover too.
Dx
Gorgeous parasol, I wouldcdearlylove to find a sweet one.
ReplyDeleteYou are amazing whipping up skirty treats in a mornings work. The print is fab.
I don't know what I love more - your parasol or your bikini top. I guess both together! The first appearance of summer has put me in such an exhilirated mood that I'm now lying drunk in the corner (aka on the sofa)... xoxo
ReplyDeleteYou look so summery - today has been dull and very very windy here up north, it looks like you have had fab weather though and about time (send it up here now!) Linda xxx
ReplyDeleteI am totally in love with that skirt.
ReplyDeleteThat is all.
xo

That parasol is amazing and your sewing skills never fail to impress me!

Fingers crossed that your sunshine hangs around for a reasonable length of time. I have woken up to a dreary old wet day but it is still very warm, but that makes for an uncomfortable what do I wear day!! SNAP with the brollie, my sister gave me one exactly the same for my birthday and I intend to use it when sitting at my sons cricket. Lovin' the bra top, wonder if Sue is wearing something similar in Rarotonga??
ReplyDeleteAloha!
ReplyDeleteAloha!
ReplyDeleteYey for a bit of sun shine for the UK, long may it continue - loving the parasol - the colours and the pattern is so pretty!

That bikini is so funny! You look a lovely senorita with your flower headdress!
ReplyDeleteYou are the only woman in the world who could rock that bikini top!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful outfit and look! You're amazingly talented. The floral dress you made, the bikini top, the flower in your hair and the parasol make for a really lovely look Also amazing is how well you colour-matched your pretty nail-polish with the Barry M Turquoise and rings. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteWhen I look at these photos all I can think of is the song "Bali Hai" from the musical "South Pacific"! I'm very glad you finally have some sun and can put that gorgeous parasol to use. You are the only woman I know who can wear that flowered bikini top and look fabulous, and not ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteYeah for Summer so glad it has finally arrived for you enjoy your sunshine!! After all that rain I would be running around in a bikini too!! cute skirt looks great love the material!! love Heather
ReplyDeleteCurry--nom. My dinner was so heavy it knocked me out for an hour or so! I love the sunshade!
ReplyDeleteOh, how I love thee. Let me count the ways... you whipped up a skirt in a morning, have a divine parasol and a bikini top that is one of the best I have ever seen (almost as good as half-coconuts).

Love your beautiful parasol too.
So tell me - did you hit Wetherspoons in your bikini top, and if so, did the Bobs of Walsall explode with excitement?!
Enjoy the sun. xxxxx
wow you are so hot, i think we don´t need the sun when we see you in that floral glory, i agree with you nothing could be to fancy to not wear it every day;) that bikini top is fabulous!

I believe nothing is too fancy or costume-y for everyday too. I love your bikini top, and the skirt you made is fabulous.
ReplyDelete"Nothing can be too fancy for everyday wear" - LOVE this ethos, what a woman you are! That bikini top is pretty special!
ReplyDeleteLoving the bedsheet-skirt - I've just posted my latest curtain dress on my blog today - some people might call it 'repurposing' or 'upcycling' but I prefer to call it making clothes out of old curtains :D xx
Oooo, love the skirt! And what a fantastic bedsheet it must have been! Sometimes I find that alcohol actually improves my sewing abilities - or perhaps it just makes me think they are improved?
ReplyDeleteYou're a lovely tropical vision! Love everything and would wear that skirt now, so gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteyou look like a sexy mermaid! Love the parasol!
ReplyDeleteOMG you are just so perfect for a weeny top like that!! it says summer like no other. Hope your sunshine lasts...will you turn green if I tell VB is already outdoors swimming again?? End of July is end of 'winter' here, just don't envy me the punishing summer!!
ReplyDeleteThat skirt is so amazing! I definitely need to start trying to find patterns in my size. Love the parasol too, I dunno what this sun is everyone's been talking about though, it's still dull & grey in Bolton! XO.
ReplyDeleteFark a dark, you look amazing, amor! That skirt is so frickin fabulous I can't stand it - and I love all of your gorgeous jewellery. So glad you are finally getting some lovely sunshiney summery weather! LOve you more than parasols, Sarah xxx
ReplyDeletegreat work dear, your skirt is adorable, very gipsy style <3
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful dose of sunshine you are yourself! Skirt=lovely but that parasol and your gorgeous face steal the show!
ReplyDelete"I think it's part of a fancy dress costume but in my book nothing could possibly be too fancy for everyday wear."
ReplyDeleteThat is what I totally love about your style and attitude! =)
xx
LOVE your turquoise rings! And that parasol is so neat. It would be fabulous indoors too, in some interior design fantasy.
ReplyDeleteI think I have that same skirt pattern and sewed it up in the 70s. (Of course, I was 6 at the time!)Ha! I have no idea how you manage to sew and drink. I have a hard enough time stone cold sober!
Cheers,
Rosemary www.foreveronthecatwalkoflife.com
Oh my floral goodness look you at celebrating the return of the sun! This bikini top is perfection on you and your new parasol from India is the prettiest thing I have ever seen. You will look so cute taking that with you to festivals! I can't believe you made this skirt in a morning and after a late night of debauchery. You are amazing Vix and I can't wait to squeeze you in real life, I just don't know if I will ever let you go!
ReplyDeleteIwuvsyougirl!!!
Krista
If Id've known, I'd've begged you to bring back a parasol for me! It's gorgeous and so frighteningly cheap! You look great, the hula girl bikini top fits you perfectly. You're a sewing genius, maybe drinking is the answer to great hand made clothes? Will go and read the interview asap! xxx
ReplyDeleteFabulous as always! x
ReplyDeleteoh My. You remind me of Hawaii ... looking so beautiful :)

THE SUN! At last! And how cool you manage to look with it. Love your new booze fuelled skirt and your parasol.
ReplyDeleteI am on an extended weekend now the Summer holidays have started, not so many early mornings but kids in tow for 6 weeks so am sure I'll be looking a little more frazzled!
Happy to hear that the sun is out and has been celebrated by the most stunning parasol that I've ever laid eyes upon. The bikini top and floral skirt deserve applause!

Haha! Love that flowery bikini top! And you are getting to be quite the seamstress if you can run up such magnificant maxi skirts while tipsy!
ReplyDeleteYou're making me long for the beach, Vix, you look so lovely! The weather's gorgeous right now, isn't it? xx
ReplyDeleteoh you're so clever to make a stunning maxi skirt out of vintage bed covers.. Now I won't be skipping that section anymore when I go vintage hunting. The print on the fabric is so beautiful; it would be such a waste to hind it in the bedroom.
ReplyDeleteI think I need a parasol ;)
xx
