Some friends offered us some retro bits and bobs they'd found in the attic during a clear out of the family home and nestled amongst a pile of groovy fabric was this silver lurex turban.
When I'm not being mistaken for a vampire (or a prostitute or pole dancer) I'm often asked if I read Tarot or have second-sight, this ensemble should confuse the public even further.

Here's a sneak preview of some of the glorious retro fabric I've been able to add to my stash. Now Kinky Melon's finally gone live I might have time for some curtain couture.
We've spent the last two days working (and sober) with only a brief sojourn for a couple of films - Argentinian thriller, The Secret In Their Eyes, which was incredible and my date with Daniel Craig in Skyfall was well worth the long wait. I'm all up-to-date now so my belated weekend starts tonight.

Thanks so much for the 21st Unn-iversary wishes, you little darlings!
We're celebrating a day late as the posh Indian restaurant we fancied trying was closed yesterday.
What on earth shall I wear?
See you soon!
I looove the top you are wearing, so beautiful :)
ReplyDeleteGreat outfit, do you read palms? Love the necklace
ReplyDeleteAnd Happy 21st!!!!!!!!
Sigh. My gypsy blood runs hot at the sigh of that turban. Or you.
ReplyDeleteYou are so beautiful today, every hat really suits you so much and I'm quite in love with turbans, but I never Find the perfect one for me! The whole outfit is fabulous, I adore the liliac crushed velvet blouse and the maxi, but I hate when people comment on our style, Probabily they are jealous and they would love to be bolder in life! The gipsy style is great and I'm in love with your pastel and silver version!
ReplyDeleteSuper happy 21st!!!!!!!
Lots of love
Xxxxxxxx
As always you look amazing and that lilac velvet blouse is gorgeous. I have to say I would be very proud to be mistaken for someone of alternative sight, and most people are jealous of those who are confident enough to dress and be themselves. LOVE IT xx
ReplyDeleteUn collar precioso!
ReplyDeleteSaludos

Hello, hat. Nice to meet you. You look fab on Vix, especially with your third eye.
ReplyDeleteI remember you buying that blouse at Mister Bird's! The color, the fabric, the shape -- it suits you so well. That necklace is a work of art.
Can't wait to see what you conjure up with those fabrics.
That turban was waiting for you to find it!! AWESOME-- and perfect with the outfit!!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what you make out of that fab fabrics!!

ReplyDeleteHa ha, perhaps you could read tea leaves from a old teacup at one of your vintage fairs and earn yourself a few more bob? If anyone could pull it off you could!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your late celebrations tonight.
You are such a godess with your turban and jewellery. You seem to me more on the fortune teller side as I de is ratsperately need someone to read the Tarot cards for me.The future is quite uncertain.
ReplyDeleteloving the turban Vix! I am sure you would make a great tarot reader.
ReplyDeleteX x

http://www.myunfinishedlife.com/
You are like eye Candy to my tired afterwork eyes!
ReplyDeleteYou really pull it of! Xxx
Yes, keep that masses guessing! ;) That's a very chic outfit. And yes, I've often used an accessory as inspiration for an outfit as you do.
ReplyDeleteNo matter how many looks I've taken on over the years I always go "back to the gypsy that I love" as Stevie Nicks says. Last month at the flea market, I also got asked if I read fortunes.
Cheers to your many years with Jon! And my goodness, isn't he a fabulous model for your vintage menswear line? So dashing!
I see many things in your future dear Vix. Oh what do see here in my crystal ball, oh yes, yes it's you looking fabulous as usual in a lurex turban.
ReplyDeleteYou seriously make crushed velvet look sexy in that blouse. I don't know if it's because of the darker colours I only ever seem to see over here, but there is not a remote chance of me making it look this gorgeous.
I hope the posh Indian place meets your expectations and yo have a wonderful tasty time.
I do love a turban and that one is fabulous on you. It's funny what people assume from appearances...you do make a lovely gypsy fortuneteller though. I'm always asked if I'm French and the other day in town someone stopped me in Poundland to ask if I was Dervla Kirwan!!!She lives in the area and she definitely shops at the market where I saw her a while ago. She was tiny with gorgeous hair....not me.
ReplyDeleteThe sun is out and I've whipped out my summer frocks!
xxxxxxxx
You look fab and unique as always Vix! And i'll have asap a look at your shop! xx Tani
ReplyDeleteThis has to be my favourite of your outfits so far! I'm weak for velvet, balloon sleeves, long skirts and hats and this hat also suits you so well! The rock on the hat also makes your eyes and make up more vibrant. Lovely, lovely, lovely! xxx
ReplyDeleteYou certainly know how to jazz up velvet!
ReplyDeleteYou make a fabulous gypsy woman! That velvet top and silver turban are divine and I love that necklace and all your baubles!
ReplyDeleteYou are one cool gypsy & love the necklace!
ReplyDeleteDenise
I now have the Don William's song stuck in my head, ha ha! Have a lovely meal tonight, happy Un-i-versary! By the way, The Secret in Their Eyes is amazing, I agree.
ReplyDeleteThe necklace is killer!!! Loving the velvet top, too!!
ReplyDeleteHave fun at dinner, Indian sound so yummy right now.
Becky :)
whoa, what a gorgeous necklace! And the turban's a fab find too. I have never been asked to read a palm, but I would like to : > You look cool and fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking Cher again 'Gypsies Tramps and Thieves' lol. I can't wait to see what you are wearing for your un-niversary lol. Have a blast xxx
ReplyDeleteV*A*L*
You look fabulous, those fabrics are amazing!!
ReplyDeleteCheck out my fashion blog at

ilove turbans!i have wanted one foerver x i love your outfit and especially more is more jewellry, have a wonderful time celebrating x
ReplyDeleteOoooh!!! Lurve the turban!!! I can hardly wait to see the retro, curtain couture!!
ReplyDeleteYeh definitely a touch of the Chers about you today. You look like a seaside palm reader from the 1970's. I take it, like me, you would take that as a huge compliment! xxxx
ReplyDeleteThere's something mystical about the lilac and silver combination. I'm sure you would make a great fortune teller! Happy un-iversary for yesterday x
ReplyDeleteThat turban was just laying up there all alone and now look at it, REBORN! It looks killer and that blouse I wanna touch it! You really do look good in lilac~ now will you cast a spell for me ;P I think people mistake me for a clown, I'd rather a whore:)
ReplyDeleteYou sound like you have been busy with the new store and I see you have already sold some stuff, YAH YAH!!! But now the fun begins! I hope you both eat until your bloated and drink until you drown! I have to see Skyfall, I just have too!
Loveyoulots!!!
XXOO
Love the turban and the velvet blouse, Vix. I think you must include all the fascinating bits about peeps thinking you're a vampire in your memoirs. :) Think I forgot to wish you and Jon a Happy Anniversary - congratulations and all the best! Xoxo
ReplyDeleteIt's a fab look. The colours are absolutely gorgeous. Enjoy your dinner.
ReplyDelete"Am I the only person to base an entire outfit around a hat?"
ReplyDeleteEr- no!!!!!!
Looking lovely! I have a turban hat in my collection which I've never featured on the blog must dig it out!!!x
I LOVE your vintage crushed velvet blouson top!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the puffed shoulders, the colour and lustre of the fabric, the way the sleeves flare out, the bodice, the bow (I love bows), and virtually everything about it.
I confess that when I saw your 70s Lurex turban I immediately thought of a crystal ball. When you mentioned Tarot card reading I had to stop and ask myself a perplexing question.
Why do I have a Rider Tarot Deck and why, over 30 years ago, did I make a beveled pine box for it that looks a little like a coffin that has a lid held in place with four loose nails?
I don't remember how to read tarot cards and I'm glad I no longer drink. Maybe it's better that I lost those brain cells. Now I'm wondering why I still have the thing.
Your Lamani Gypsy pendant from India and all your rings and bracelets are fabulous!
Congratulations again on your achievement of 21 years of unwedded bliss as of yesterday!
I'm sure the fare at the Five Rivers Indian Restaurant will be scrumptious!
http://www.full-brief-panties.blogspot.com/
Love the turban and you look lovely in purple, yah velvet! I hope your anniversary dinner was amazing :)
ReplyDeleteDid I say congrats on 21 years of avoiding wedding bells? Well done, you're an inspiration, weddings give me the heebie jeebies. Hope you're having a great curry! The turban looks amazing on you, love the addition of the silver brooch. Wonder how much you could get down the market for a bit of palm reading then? I love this outfit, more ultraviolet, that colour really suits you! xxxx
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your outfit! Hope you have a fantastic time and Happy Un-anniversary xxx
ReplyDeleteI do love a turban!!! It's rather fetching on you, Gypsy (tramps and thieves!) Lady! Nothing like confusing the locals by switching it up a notch! That necklace gives me palpitations of envy EVERY TIME!
ReplyDeleteGloriarse outfit, totally frickin' AWESOME!
Love Helga xxxXXXxxx
Tarot card reader, prostitute, pole dancer...wow! Most people just think I'm weird ;) As has been pointed out by previous commentors, there is a definite Cher vibe going on here, which you have channelled before and suits you to a "T".
ReplyDeleteNothing wrong with styling an outfit around a hat - I did that with my "Warrior Queen" outfit and it was so much fun. Whatever gives you inspiration, embrace it, I say!
I LOVE that turban! Especially with that brooch attached to it. Very Indian princess. And the beautiful top. Gorgeous. In fact the whole outfit is perfect and so suits your figure and colouring.
ReplyDeleteThat's quite a range of careers you are attributed with!!
Loved that film, I have a few others to tell you about. xxxx
That turban is fabulous, I don't blame you for wanting to base an entire outfit around it! I bought a gorgeous little hat when I was at Hep Cats Holiday the other weekend and I'm already planning on making a dress to match it.
ReplyDeleteSarah x
EEEEP! Kinky Melon homewares online, you say? I can FINALLY stop glaring enviously at your vintage show photos and start stalking your website instead. Hurrah! Bring on the kitsch xx
ReplyDeleteHappy 21! yes i'm saying it again!

ReplyDeleteSending a very late well wish to you and Jon, 21 years is fabulous!!!!
Have a yummy meal out to celebrate. Love V
Congratulations on your 21 years as a couple. You guys seem to be so great together. It is so good to see.
ReplyDeleteLove the gypsy lady look!
You look absolutely gorgeous in that turban. And congrats on your 21 years. "Even if I am a little late saying it." *eaak*
ReplyDeleteOooh... that necklace is seriously awesome!
ReplyDeletePeople do give you many titles! I will add Gypsy Queen and it would be my honor to follow your caravan.
ReplyDeleteHappy unanniversary. I like the un concept best. But it's worth celebrating 21 years of being with someone you can still stand to be around and love - even better.
ReplyDeleteThe sparkling crimplene is just the fabric to bracket this occasion. I look forward to seeing what you wore to your posh place!
Great outfit, love your purple shirt. Hope you had fun last night, will stop by later to see what you wore :)
ReplyDeleteYou look very magical in that ensemble.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you wore for your special dinner.
love your turban and all that bastard jewelry, you look absolutely fabulous and whimsical!!, that silver-lurex shades are awesome!!
ReplyDeletewish you a nice celebration, my dear lady (we're going to celebrate our 20th aniversary tomorrow!!)
besos & congrats
It's so exciting when people give you bags of stuff to rummage through isn't it? Your turban is so gorgeous and well worth building an outfit around Vix. I love all the colours here and that crushed velvet top. It's quite a compliment really that people see so many different and interesting characters in you. Hope you and Jon have a great night out and enjoy your anniversary meal. xx
ReplyDeletecrushed velvet blouse....possibly my favourite fabric I wanted everything I owned to be crushed velvet when I was a teenager sadly it was not.....you look divine!!x
ReplyDeleteeverytime I look at your blog, you manage to make me squeaaal with delight...Beautiful gypsy princess Vix! xxx
ReplyDeleteAre you the only person to base an entire outfit on a hat?! Goodness no!! I've just bought a wonderful hat that will be great for going to Ascot. Not that I'm going to Ascot. It will probably go to some weddings this summer, but it was too gorgeous (and cheap) to leave behind at the charity shop. Just gotta get some things together to go with it!
ReplyDeleteMuch love,
Rosemary from www.foreveronthecatwalkoflife.blogspot.com
I'm a fan of turbans AND creating an outfit around a hat, so your ensemble made the day for me, Vix. It's a wonderful thing to give new life to headwear that's been tucked in an attic for years.
ReplyDeleteHope your Unn-iversary celebration was fab!
Hi there! You look amazing, the silver turban is gorgeous on and I'm adoring your necklace! Hope you both had a lovely Anniversary xxx
ReplyDeleteOf COURSE you should build an outfit round a hat! Or a belt or shoes or a necklace, anything that takes your fancy! The turban is fabulous, and I am drooling a little over that lurex skirt and velvet blouson (sleeve love!)
ReplyDeleteYou do have a gypsy vibe about you in this outfit, but Helga's right, it's a Cher-esque gypsies, tramps and thieves look! I reckon that whenever people ask you if you read Tarot, tell fortunes, see dead people, dance round poles, drink blood, or walk the streets, you should look the person directly in the eye, keep a very straight face, and say "Yes"! Go on, it would be hilarious!
Hope you had a great night out with Jon.
PS. Fab fabric too! xxxxxx
Just when I think you can't possibly get any more beautiful, you do.
ReplyDeleteFor most of my life, I couldn't wear hats (head too big). My 50+ Style Bucket List included finding hats that fit. Not only did I do that, but I also got vintage hat patterns and inspiration to fire up my sewing machine again. I so need a creative project at this time in my life.
So yes, there will be a few upcoming posts with outfits based on hats, and I am wearing hats to the office. (I have to do something unexpected and radical after the new dress code ixnayed jeans :o)
Gorgeous necklace x
ReplyDeleteLove your Turban, where is it from?
ReplyDeleteWWW.ROXTHEFOX.COM
i cna't remember if i already commented on this or not? and i'm too lazy to check.
ReplyDeletedoes everything you put on have to look so damn good? lavender is gorgeous on you! everything is!
that turban! oh now i want one too.
x
Very cool hat. Yes a fortune teller, you should keep a wee crystal ball in your bag!!
ReplyDeleteBase an entire outfit around a hat? Well you are the goddess of such ingenious inventions darling Vix and you have the entire planet holding its breath for your next sartorial brainwave: including me! I adore the new addition to your collection and I very nearly sprayed a mouthful of tea all over the screen at the sight of the FECKING MAD BAAAAAAAAAASTARD NECKLACE!!!!!!!! Oh my crystal balls, you are a magnificent wench!!!!! oxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxooxxoxoxo
ReplyDeleteIf it's a hat like this it's well worth creating your whole outfit around it - which is absolutely gypsy-worthy, btw. xoxo
ReplyDeleteouuuuiiiii. I love this!
ReplyDeleteLove this outfit especially the turban, so glam!
ReplyDeletewow no one can wear a turban like you! you beautiful oriental goddess!;) i also love that top!
ReplyDeletekiss,mary
This outfit is INCREDIBLE! That turban looks stunning on you. I'll let you read my fortune any day!
ReplyDeleteI love it when people tell you what they think you do...such insight, but usually into them, rather than you.;) I actually do my best not to ask what people DO, and just to enjoy the conversation.
ReplyDeleteI don't think you'd need a tarot deck to predict a bright future in that look! Love that turban and top, yep, having some sleeve love too like the lovely Goddesses Miss. Pastcaring and Miss. Helga said very Cher! Glad we got you Babe!
Which funny, was our "song" for our wedding so long ago. It's also kinda funny we got married, I could have easily done as you and Jon and been happily unmarried, but back then it seems kinda weird to do, so we just did it.;) Not many long term relationships out there...so very glad you found a good one and wishing you many more years of happiness!!!:)
And, I put outfits together all the time just to wear one thing. It's may favorite way, or by theme...can help to keep things focused when your confronted with sooooo many choices, like I know you are my Dear!;)
And, I forgot to add, cat distraction, that I've seen the BBC series "My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding", and I have to say that the traveling gals don't seem to look like that any more.lol!;)
ReplyDeleteOh fuck a fucking duck I'm so far behind agaaaain I missed your unversary! I'm sorry! Happy unversary you guys!!!
ReplyDeleteYou are a spectacular psychic pole dancing prostitute gypsy Cher! The turban is divine and the entire ensemble is EXQUISITE. And yes, I do build entire outfits around hats, or coats, or shoes, or jewellery. But never as well as YOU, amor!
Love you more than TURBANS!
Sarah xxx
