A Charity Shop Frock, Some Jumble Sale Buys & A Boozy Poodle

What an utterly foul day, apparently the weather's set to continue in the same vein all month, perfect for our CamperJam VW Festival this weekend...not!

Here's the second of my charity shop purchases from Saturday, a groovy Twistlene maxi dress in 100% Synthetic.

Laundered and ready to wear in a matter of hours, perfect for UK living, there's sod all chance of line drying here so wet laundry can hang around the house for days.

Neon pink ex-high street earrings £1, Scope

Oh dear, I've lost a bit of bling! (50p, car boot sale)
Silvery Lilac nail paint by Barry M, who else? (Courtesy of soon-to-give-birth Liz)
So what did buy at the jumble sale?

Clockwise from top right: 1960s flower power curtains, shirred maxi dress for a friend, a pair of unused retro pillow cases (for remaking into something else), a Green Day tee shirt and a lace blouse with the labels removed (the French seams seem to indicate it's pretty old).

Not a lot but it only cost me 40p ('cos I found a quid on the pavement!).

I should have gone to a local vintage fair on Sunday but I've bought a lot this month and I know I wouldn't have found an original maxi dress this cool for less than a fiver.

I didn't miss out though, Liz and Adrian bought me this incredible 1950s ceramic "Foreign Made" poodle to add to my collection. His body can be filled with booze, how fab is that? My friends know me so well!

Hope your week's started off well.
See you soon!

That is a superb dress! I love the print! And your neon jewellery is fantastic. The earrings remind me of the ones Spanish ladies wear to the feria xx

Gorgeous dress - you're looking super slim and toned after your hol. I'm so sick of this weather too. Wish the rain would stop for a bit. xx

Looking great as usual Vix, I had a very similar white lace blouse in the early 80s, part of the New Romantic look, I seem to recall.

You're looking smashing! The best recipe to this dreadful weather... a beautiful, colourful (and well priced) vintage frock and getting drunk on a poodle! Again I've given up on the British summer. xoxo

Looking hot in that super maxi, Vix! You look like you should be on a Jimi Hendrix album cover. Loving that poodle too, I've never seen one like that before xxx

Forest City Fashionista said...

Great colours and shape on the maxi, and I am in love with the white lace top (although I can't wear white as it washes me out!). The boozy poodle is ridiculously adorable.

mancunianvintage said...

Yes - synthetic fibres are the way forward in this dreadful weather! Gorgeous outfit btw, and also - are Barry M seeing your positive posts about their range? I hope so (they might throw a few samples your way!) x

The weather will be fine and sunny as soon as we set foot on English land. It happens every year.It wont be hot, but it will be pleasant and little rain. You will see.
Looking gorgeous.
What is the best way to find local carboot sales and jumble sales papers???

I'm not a huge fan of pink, but that dress is particularly pretty. I think it's the fabulous print, and the fact that it fits you as if it was made for you. Lovely, and what a funky poodle? I've never seen the like of it. xx

thorne garnet said...

just re-space the dangles on the necklace and nobody needs to know(except all of us who read your blog) It's so hot here I don't even want to go outside.

The Style Crone said...

You are very elegant in your pink patterned maxi with neon bling. I also love the silvery lilac nail color and the beautiful lace blouse.

The print on that dress is divine, and the jewellery goes so well with it - I especially love the earrings.

Great jumble sale finds - the shirred maxi and lace top are fab, and would go rather well together I think.

But what can I say about the truly fabulous poodle? Not only a great vintage retro piece in it's own right but it HOLDS BOOZE! Utterly brilliant!

btw, loved the Biba pants, and how cool is that Black Country granny? She's rocking that red hat!

Miss Simmonds Says said...

argh!!! My mum had the loveliest lacey blouse in the 90s, just like yours but she never wore and I wasn't interested so she got rid of it. Grrr I should've kept it! So if you ever see one in my size I'll gladly buy it off you!

I love the poodle - he's hilarious!! You look gorgeous in your maxi dress, another fantastic bargain. All your jumble stash is ridiculously good value! xxxx

tee, hee, I love the bozy poodle - what a great piece! I have a question to ask you (which is rather impertinent, you might think, when I've not stopped by for so long!). Being the swoonsome vintage shopper that you are, do you have any special secret tips for getting the musty 'vintage' smell out of vintage? Got a fab sequin bargain but, even after a good hand wash, it definitely has that musty waft to it! xxx

Claire said...

OMG! I have the bedding set that matches the curtains! love love love the colours.

Love that dress & the amazing necklace! I think everyone has a bit of something from the old St Michael range, I have the throw and I know my Mum had the bedding in the 70s! XO.

That print on that dress is just divine! I love finding money on the floor - used to laugh at my dad when I was a kid when he picked up 10p on the floor, but now I'll crawl around anywhere even just for a penny! x

Melanie said...

Twistlene?! The name itself makes me love this dress even more! I purchased an ultra-high-speed spinner for spinning my clothes after the regular spin in the washing machine or after hand-washing. It makes my clothes dry ultra-quick!! And it even spins out soap that a washer or hand washing misses. I use it a LOT, our weather sounds like yours.

Quirky-Vintage said...

Ooh I love your maxi dress, it's gorgeous and goes so well with the Barry M. I too am a massive Barry M fan but I don't have that shade and I have a bad case of 'wanties' now. I adore the poodle too, I love anything 'drink' related-I've never seen anything like that before-fabulous. xx

Sue W @ Living the Good Life said...

Love the poodle! Will that mean you can now get piddoodled! :D Oh and you're welcome anytime ya know! :D

Joni James said...

Tiny little shots of booze. How cute is that!!
You have all the accessories worked out so perfectly with that pink and black. Great colors on you Vix!

Sue said...

I have the same sort of white lace top hanging in the back of my sewing room wardrobe. It has a matching mini skirt and I used to wear it all with only knickers back in the late 70's early 80's. Came from Bali and I cannot bear to get rid of it as it reminds me of good times as a teenage chic!!!

Miss Tallulah Porkchop said...

Perfection, I am loving the colours in the dress. I LOVE that you include the price tag.

The jewellery (esp neck and ears) is amaze!

Have a great Tuesday.

What a fabulous frock, and what a great name, never heard of Twistlene! You are right, no way would you have found anything that wonderful for under a fiver at a vintage fair.
Love that nail varnish (got my Denim on today, I had no idea it is hard to find, I'll consider myself very fashion-forward then, ha!)
LOOK at that crazy poodle! I have never seen one like that before, it's touched by both genius and madness - perfect! xxxxx

If poodles are your thing, I'll look out for one for you. What fabulous buys you get! I was lucky to get some True Bargains at the jumble sale table in the Square on Saturday, but mostly I try to limit my time in the charity shops, as I am still losing the battle to find places to store it all.

Cheers,

I completely misread part of your post and thought you'd found a Green Day t-shirt with French seams, which seemed only slightly surprising, as it's you! That poodle is hilarious, and the maxi is another gorgeous one.
