Riding Along On My Push Bike, Honey

I braved the spiders in Dad's cellar at the weekend and found the long-forgotten 1966 Raleigh RSW 16 of my childhood. Yesterday morning was spent riding up and down the lawn reacquainting myself with it's quirks and today I've tackled the main road to visit the local shop.

Over the years it's lost the green tartan holdall from the back, I'll have to trawl the boot sales and eBay for a suitably kitsch replacement.

Cycling and maxi dresses don't go well together, thankfully it's still warm enough for shorts.

Vintage embroidered blouse (Thursday's jumble, 20p), Crochet waistcoat (another score from the jumble), velvet hot pants (70p, car boot sale), vintage hide belt (50p, car boot sale) and 1970s Foster Grant sunnies (20p, car boot sale)

I was thrilled to win the lovely Lisa's blog giveaway. Look at how prettily packaged my parcel was.

Here's the amazing contents.

A Tunnock's Tea Cake tea towel (try saying that after a few), a vintage tea towel, a beautiful Hornsea cruet, a handmade dishcloth, some herbal tea bags, a gorgeous lustre ware tea cup and saucer, a pretty gypsy caravan card and a hippy-tastic skirt.  There were also some Tunnock's Tea cakes but a certain someone had a hangover yesterday and scoffed the lot, bad boy.

Hope you've had a fantastic weekend.

  4. Can't believe that bike has been in the attic - so glad you rescued it.
You'll really look the part once you get a bag for it.
Isn't this weather a lovely treat - extra time with your favourite clothes.

I LOVE Tunnock's teacakes, and the packaging is so stylish. I'd have beat Jon to them and left him with six neatly smoothed out wrappers - I never tear them open (same for creme eggs!).

Have fun cycling in the sun,

    Lucy x

  7. Dearest Vix,
I love that bike, we had a similar one at my folks summerhouse that I used to cycle on in my youth...I'm not sure if they've still got it? When I was over in Sweden last time I noticed that old style bikes with sensible saddles have come back in, the more retro they look the more expensive they are, the sturdy old postmen’s bikes are like gold dust when revamped. Mark cycles everyday but I'm too scared to brave the aggressive London traffic. I love your new boots too, they look perfect teamed with that fab crochet waistcoat. BTW with legs like yours, I'd be wearing mini's & hotpants more often...Yowza woman!
    Lot's of love,
    Jennie

  51. Hee, cute bike! I used to have a cool 70s folding bike but I sold it as it languished in the cupboard when I was too scared to ride it on the roads. Having buses and bikes in the same lane is a terrible idea!

Hope you find just the right replacement bag x

  63. Such a cute bike! I love vintage bikes:D I wish I was brave enough to use one as a form of transport, but I just get so nervous biking around cars. I really love your vest - I did macrame as a teenage and one of the books I had included a pattern for a vest like yours and I thought it was just so rad:) I was never brave enough to tackle such a big project though and stuck to the pot plant holders.

  64. AWW, bike envy! I love a retro bike - I want a chopper but they are rather expensive. I tried raiding my parental garage but all I discovered what that my mum had appropriated my early 1990s pink girl bike and now cycles to bridge club on it.

I may just have to buy one - mind you I don't want to buy a nicked one by accident which is always a risk with second hand.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Fab bike - goes to show things were built to last years ago.

I remember my Grandma's best friend has one of those in red - she'd cycle miles on it - very hard with those little wheels.

  66. Ha! I have the very same bike, in blue, in my shed!
Ooh, memories...will have to scan photos of it I think. Me and Willie, (Wilhelmina), in our party dresses trying to ride my birthday pressie! Boring white box, not tartan tho'.

I have a blog award for you.
