Get Ahead, Get A Hat

I was thrilled to meet lovely blogger Zoe in Birmingham today. Being the wonderful lady she is she brought along three fabulous vintage felt hats she thought I'd enjoy wearing. This Bermona Trend, London number goes perfectly with what I'd already got on so I wore it on the bus back home.

Nothing adds more drama than a hat. I've had both this dress and waistcoat for years but stick a hat on and it feels like a whole new outfit.

Here's some more of my collection:

You will attract attention if you wear a hat but as Mae West (and Helga the Great) would say, it's better to be looked over than overlooked and if you're in the market for an elderly gentleman I can guarantee they'll be putty in your hands. I never fail to pull a pensioner when I'm donning a hat.

1960s Dollyrockers dress (99p, eBay), Peter Barron waistcoat (Bought by my Mum in 1966), Velvet platforms (£9, Office)

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a dry day tomorrow so I can go car booting in the morning.
Have a lovely evening.

  2. I love hats, so does my mum. Perfect when I haven't washed my hair!
You look like a film or rock star in this ensemble, the pensioners have the confidence to let you know how fab you look. Bet all the men's jaws were hitting the floor.
More people need to wear hats!

  4. "if you're in the market for an elderly gentleman" -- I've already got one, so does that mean I should skip hats? :-D

  5. I love hats. Your collection is beautiful!

  6. Oh I just love hats but my head is enormous! I know you reckon yours is too, but you have found some absolute beauties which fit you perfectly. I need a brim, and something substantial, otherwise it looks like a pea perched on a drum...

    So did you then????
    Pull a pensioner today?!
You and Helga, what old fella wouldn't love the pair of you?

Oh, and the dress and your mum's waistcoat are SPECTACULAR! xxxxx

  7. I love hats, and the way you wear this one makes me want a big delicious red floppy hat. Love the print of the dress too, while we at it. Happiness all over it.

  8. I adore hats as you well know. You wear hats well. The dress is so lovely and I like how colourful and happy the dress is too. I'm coming over for a hat party this weekend;-)

  10. Dearest Vix,
You really do suit a hat, of that there is no doubt.
I wish I had more hats, especially of the wide brimmed floppy felt variety, all I seem to find at the boot sales are shaggard straw ones & boring baseball caps...yawn to that!
You look spiffing as always! I've admired that dress for the longest of times, the print is so amazing.
It looks great teamed with your mums funky waistcoat too.
    Lot's of love,
    Jennie

  11. Gorgeous! Tis true, elderly gents love a lady in a hat. So do I ...I wish we all wore nice hats as a matter of course like we used to. Mind you, might not be a great look with jogging bottoms....

  12. You pull off the hat so well. I really love hats but I'm always second guessing myself in one. I'll wear it and then by the end of the day I'm always carrying it in my hand.

They do like a bit of meat on a woman, in my case, not in yours, I might add!

That dress is simply gorge - I am wearing something similar today but more purply and pinky, but not beautiful vintage - Once again, Vix, you have excelled your good self...

Blowing some mild wind your way, from the north! xxx
